Most of what Colin says makes sense. Gating things farther away in level terms, but making level up more quickly so it takes the same amount of real time makes sense, and help feeling the first levels as more rewarding. Level up messages are a great addition. And maybe when you get rid of all these bugs (if all the things I think are bad are bugs) we’ll have a better levelling system than before.
But some decissions are quite weird. The cows you can no longer feed for instance. It’s not like an enviromental weapon to use in combat, is just a bundle you carry form point A to B. It’s not that hard to understand for anybody. In fact is a good way to teach players they can pick objects form the ground that maybe later will be useful.
The gating of downstate I can’t agree with too. It makes people help each other in the open world and creates a good sense of companionship instead of rivalry. It is nice to learn that lesson right form the start.
If some other things are indeed bugs (namely account unlocks) I’m happy with it.
Wouldn’t be great if we could preview and armor AND chose which dyes we want to preview it with? Technically it is posible, but you have to preview the dye bottle, whichy you have to search for on the Trading Post, and you’re very limited in the way the system choses which parts it dyes.
What about a system like the one on hero panel to the right of the skin preview window? It would be nice if it had not only the dyes we have unlocked, but all dyes, so we can see how it looks before buying it?
How many times have we seen a players with a really good looking armor or weapon, and then have lost a lot of time searching the wiki trying to find it? You can always whisper them, but what if it is how they dyed it what you are interested in? Most likely they won’t stop to give you a full explanation.
My suggestion is a feature, much like the preview system, which you can use on another character to see what items and dyes they are using. Not the stats (that would probably generate elitism and discrimation) but the skins. It could have a way to change that character model with yours, to see how it looks on you too.
Small change, totally doable, and helps some people. Totally agree
Here there are some idias for additions in the game panels that I think would greatly improve the quality of life with small effort.
- Crafting panel filter to show only recipies that gain you experience plus recipies to create its components. Now, when you want to create an item that gives you experience (o it’s max level) you can activate the “gain exp” show option to avoid scroll over all your recipies, but then you discover it need a subcomponent you have to craft too, and it doesn’t give you experience, so it doesn’t appear on the filtered list. You have to uncheck the filter, and search for it in a sea o greyed recipie names. And then when you have it, check the box again to easily find the item you where looking for. The filter I am proposing will fix that issue, leting you having it checked almost 100% of the time, unless you want an specific low level item for skin or trade.
- A new crafting context menu option for “craft this item”. Another way to solve the problem exposed before. Right now, when we rightclick in a component form the crafting panel we only have the “buy more at the trading post” to get the item. How about an option to get you to the recipie that carfts it?
- A new section in the hero panel about Living Story. Something similar to “My Stoy” section but regarding each release. It will help old players to remember what happened several months ago and it’s relevant now and will help new players to keep up with the story. It could have buttons to play cutscenes, and an “Unlocked Rewards” box similar to that on the “achievements” section so we can collect our unlocked skins so we don’t need to storage them indefinetly.
- A new section in the guild panel for guild recruitment. A place where guilds can opt to adevertise themselves for recruitment. I will make recruitment easier for guilds, and finding their perfect guild easier for players. It could hold more information than a chat message would have (longer space, links… maybe Textile and BBcode?). You could add filters for PvE, PvP, PvX, WvW guilds, yes-or-no 100% represent, number of members, upgrades unlocked…
Thank you for reading this, and see you in the mists!
