Torch mainhand?

You wouldn’t switch your weapon to your offhand, you would simply hold your offhand with the torch in front of you. Other than that, your skill suggestions would make torch MH too OP.

Legendary Bows - Awful

It would be cool if ANet would allow you to change weapon effects by equipping other ascended or legendary items. For Kudzu, if you equip an ascended quiver you should be able to shoot different arrows. What I would really like to see in this game are just plain armors that I could transmute my high end gear to. I would love for my warrior to just have a dented up breastplate with leather armor underneath, something that makes him look like a mercenary who has been fighting for 20 years and not the guardian of the light bright kingdom or the plaything of some femdom palace.

Can I still find the Refugee’s Sword Belt and Compass in game? I have found the first two items and the last two, but now the dirt covered objects are all saying that I have already found the item and turned it in. Is there anyway to find the these missing items?

Cross-Race Cultural Armor

The racial gear is bought soulbound, and transmuted items are soulbound. Therefore, it is not possible. Also, I’m afraid the racial gear has no models for other races than the one they are made for, so even if you’d manage to equip a piece of another race’s armor, it’d only result in a glitch. And creating these models takes time, especially if the design is complex as most racial armors are (perhaps just because they don’t have to fit other races, less attention must be spent for having the armor fit different body shapes, leaving artistic freedom). It’d be no small effort to recreate the racial armors (three armor classes, on three tiers, four races without those particular three sets, two genders for each, save for Charr. That’s 63-72 sets of armor that would need to be fitted and tested, on all the body types available for all the races) for the rest of the races.

EDIT: Fixed my calculation to include the different tiers of racial armor.

I know that this seems like a lot; however, consider all of the armor bought with tokens that is available for all races and armor types light/medium/heavy. Also, cultural armor isn’t any more complex than CoF or Orrian armors.

Cross-Race Cultural Armor

So a brief explanation, I have created about a dozen male Norn characters because they (in my opinion) have the best cultural armor for medium and heavy skins. I particularly like the Norn medium armor skins for tier 3 and would love to have those skins on my human thief. The problem is that the Norn animations just do not appeal to me. The GS low carry is cool, but the male Norn run animation feels so slow compared to other races that it makes me want to cry.

I would be happy to purchase this armor via the gem store. I think another good route would be to create a high level cultural quest so that my human has to complete a Norn specific quest in order to gain access to purchase the Norn cultural armor.

I don’t believe that this would be very difficult to implement since there are essentially cross-race armors for every other armor set in the game including the story based factions armor. Also, if Anet decided to go with a quest based option it would satisfy lore concerns. I can buy cultural weapons after all!

tl;dr, please god let me get Norn cultural armor on my human, I’m willing to work for it!

Is Thief the class for me?

If your focus is PVP then, yes, thief is the class for you. For a burst build you can run D/anything and Shortbow (SB on the forums). D/D, D/P, D/whatever will give you great burst while SB will give you mobility and AOE. You can go full GC if you want, but while you are learning the class some survivability is nice. Get zerker trinks at 80 and mix knight and valkyrie armor. There are about 8,000 builds posted in this forum so I won’t post another here. You can also definitely PVE on your thief, just don’t expect to pug a lot of high level fractals or CoF speed runs on a thief. Not because you can’t do it (hate shield) but because of poor thief rep and held over hatred from everyone who has ever had their zerg smashed by a solo thief.

What armor should I choose?

Buy chests in Orr, sell the goodies and buy yourself a nice mixed set of valkyrie and knight’s armor with all berserker jewelry. I recommend zerker weapons.

D/Anything will be your highest damage (generally) and short bow will be your friend especially when you start running dungeons or WvW. Precision is great but now without power for a thief, so stack power first, then precision. Also, as someone above recommended try out all of the weapon combos to see what you like. I love d/p, it’s a blast, has great mobility, and can blind mobs. In the end, play what you like and spec for it as your level increases, so if you like p/d then run a condition build, if you want to do d/d direct damage run a power/precision build.

High level fractals can pose issues for thieves if specced/played incorrectly, this is due in large part to a thief’s survivability being tied to evasion skills rather than blocking or huge health pools. Guards have great mitigation and warriors have lots of health, thieves have blinds and shadow step. If you want to succeed in a dungeon bring a short bow since many fights are ranged biased. Backstabbing is your best damage, but if you die you aren’t hurting anyone. If you rez your group under the glorious dome of shadow refuge and save a wipe then they will love you. Thieves do great damage but they also have some great utility which is often overlooked because a lot of thieves are played by ex-WoW zomg thief = rogue = damage only players. There are no predefined roles in this game so you are responsible for healing yourself and avoiding damage.
