Reposting cuz no one rated my name sniffle

@The Mastrodon

8/10 for Magnus the Boulder. It’s appropriately Nornish sounding, appropriate for his profession (which I’m guessing is ele), however it’s not as original as I would consider a 10/10 Norn name.

My female Norn ranger:

Svalinka

I had the intention of naming her “Svala” however it was already taken, so I added a Russian diminutive suffix. Don’t like how I had to do that though, ’cause it sounds less Norse-inspired then.
In-game I don’t like using multi-worded names ’cause I find them annoying to type. However if I were to give the Norn ranger a full name it would be:

Svala Valkyrsund

Svala = Old Norse roots for “swallow,” like the bird
Valkyr- = valkyrie (perhaps she shrieks like a valkyrie when she attacks, IUNNO xD)
-sund = Nordic surname affix meaning “sound”

@Morbridae

You got a chuckle out of me with the whole “he doesn’t know his surname” bit.

8/10 – I really like the name, especially relating it it to death and the like with him being a necro. I also really like one-word names, so plus for that. Not a perfect 10/10 to me only because instead of a Nordic/Viking phonetic feel, I instead get a Latin (and distantly Celtic) flavor, which is atypical of Norn lore.

Oh hai agian, CrossFire :D !

I’ll split the names up:
8/10 for Ashe. My name is actually Ashley so I guess I’m a bit biased, but hey it goes with the ranger and forest theme though, if you relate Ashe to ash trees ^^.
5/10 for Woods. A plus in that it’s woods-related and you’re a ranger…but I just found it to be too plainly direct and boring.

1. My female elementalist’s given name is

Zerytha,

though I actually wanted her to be Zeryth, since I use it for my accounts in everything, but alas it was taken for the first time here! I added “a” at the end begrudgingly to keep with the name. Sounds more feminine, but I’m upset it switches the stressed vowel. I have favorite letters V, X, Y, Z, and TH (theta), and a managed to weave 3 sounds into this name. It’s concise and not overly flowery/cliche. (^Wow sorry rambled about sounds there.)

2. Female thief:

Vixsique (viks-seek)

  • from vixen (female fox, which are lithe and nimble, appropriate for thieves)
  • -ique French suffix creating adjective from noun

And then my female mesmer whose name I don’t like and will change “eventually”:

3. Villynia (sounds like the word “millenia”)

Lil Oni Kage – 7/10 Oni Kage is simple, however lacks a double letter combo of sorts and isn’t “rough” enough in sound that is typical of Asuras.
Narakuma – 7.5/10 Props for finding one-worded name. The name is nice, however it’s too long and Japanese-sounding to match Asura lore names.

As names yours are nice, however

My female Asura guardian’s name:

Qaali

(pronounced kah-lee) variations of Kaali were taken, so I just went with a letter close to “k” in the IPA (international phonetic alphabet). Name has both feminine Asura vowels (“a” and “i”), yet still kept a “hard” sounding consonant to remain Asura-like Also stuck with two-syllables as well with being one-worded, which was hard to find, given that a lot of combos have been taken already >.<

Also I lawled at Phizixx two posts above hahaha

Oh it can’t read Greek letters…the “???” was just the Greek root that the Gaelic morpheme borrowed from

I like your names, especially since you stuck to finding one-worded names (and appropriately so since Sylvari do not have surnames according to their lore, being all part of the same family and all). Your names also flow nicely off the tongue, which is phonetically/phonologically a plus for the poetic nature of Sylvari names. However your etymological roots seem to be very Greek/Latin-based when their names tend to lean more toward the Gaelic end.

Acidica – 8/10 – Nice association with venom
Archicus – 8/10 – Neat association with “arch”, which relates back to Latin arcus, “bow”
Pheodus – 7/10 I could guess root association here, but it’s not clear if you intended to put one here or not. Basing off of how it sounds though, it flows nicely, but I just don’t like it as much as the first two

I would rate your names 10 if they were more Celtic-sounding for the perfect Sylvari names. Nice job on naming! n_n

^put as spoiler ’cause of how long the response was to CrossFire

blahblahblah my own female Sylvari warrior’s name:

Aerriwyn

aer = ??? = air, mist, blue/grey (as in sky-colored)
-ri- = filler morpheme
wyn = white

She is fair of skin, with hues of blue and grey/white armor color scheme.
Issue I have with my name is that it doesn’t sound fierce like a warrior T.T
