I completely agree with the OP. I play MMOs because I love PvP in MMOs, and I love that I have to work for my items to do more damage and compete at a higher level. GW2 removes all of that completely. I almost feel like there is no point for me to play sPvP except to get on the leaderboard, which really takes away my incentive. Not because I don’t want to be high on the leaderboard, but instead because if I ever become #1 on the leaderboard, someone who JUST bought their account could login, go to PvP and have the same statistical gear as me. I feel like that is just the biggest slap to the face.
Adding something like a gold source, however, is not a good idea, as Olba correctly explained. I think a cool idea would be to reward sPvPers with gear that they can use in PvE and/or WvW that has the same or similar skins as the gear they worked very hard to earn in sPvP. This way, sPvPers can showoff their accomplishments outside of PvP and feel more rewarded for their time sink into PvP.
As of right now, the only point of earning PvP rewards is to show off to other PvPers how much time you wasted getting different looking gear. That is exactly whats wrong with the PvP reward system.
