Hello Gaile,
Thanks to you and the whole team for the update and for listening to our feedback (not that I ever doubted that contrarily to many here).
Despite what many say here and on reddit, I appreciate a lot Anet ability to listen to feedback and take steps accordingly. I can’t say so of most other studio.
Regards
They (Arenanet) did NOT listen to our feedback. They where dismanteled by the critics of major gaming sites and had to make a move not to be totally crushed!

The critic of tentonhammer regarding the handling of this incident is devasting, and rightfully so!
Arenanet only learns the hard way!
Cheers!
I agree, this is more damage control than actually listening to the players.
Any player of this game would tell you that the update had big problems. Why is their quality assurance department not able to spot such obvious problems?
Either no QA on this was done at all, or their QA department is extremely inadequate. I don’t know which scenario is scarier.
I wouldn’t blame QA. Arenanet is not stupid, the company has talent. These are calculated decisions, not mistakes that slipped by QA.
They wanted to change something in a specific way, we didn’t like it, people like Gaile (whilst doing her job) dug the hole further and aided in presenting Arenanet in a negative light, something that they themselves are doing to themselves. We didn’t have to do that, they did that to themselves.
While I like, for the most part, their products (loved NF and EoTN most personally) I do not have faith in their integrity, honesty or what they say to us, this includes Gaile as we’ve all seen in early posts.
It’s hard to say. I’d like to think by year 3 we’d hear that there is a serious-expansion-like … thing coming, something that adds a bulk of new things to do (/cough Elona-Cantha-something completely now /cough).
Sadly, they may just do a year’s worth of updates for those pesky ‘new players’ who seem to not be able to play the game as it was intended to be played.
Maybe they’ll bring in the holy trinity because the new players are so used to it from every other MMO and thus to please them and keep them Arenanet may reform the fundamentals. That’s not a troll they may even consider it since keeping ‘veterans’ seem to be down on their list.
Yeah right, They only made the statement its going to be fixed to silence the community. I look for the fix to take as long as it took to come out wit precursor crafting… Oh, wait.
Yeah, I’m a little bit wary of how long it’s going to take them to add the button.
It could take them months: all the research, development and then months of testing to ensure those pesky new players can understand it seeing as how it was those pesky new players that the change was made for in the first place.
Thank goodness they listened. The mistake was starting to look like it would kill any fun to be had from the halloween event.
It’s nice to have this sorted out, even if it’ll take time to implement the change. But in the end, I feel that players will be patient while this change is enabled because the exchange and the customization will be great.
In the meantime, there’s candy corn to be had, kings to be back-talked, and so much more! <3 Halloween.
(And hey, I like your name a lot, btw!)
Let’s hope it doesn’t take the team until the end of Halloween to get this sorted, hopefully no one gets distracted.
Here’s my question.
Why can’t they just like I dunno, talk with us before making decisions. I would have thought they would have learned by now that every time they make these design choices without consulting their player base something like this pops up. Generally when a person accidentally sticks their hand on a hot stove top they pull back before serious burns happen. Its like they stick their hands on the hot stove top, get burned, don’t learn anything, and then stick their hand on it again.
Have you read this forum? Did you read the post where the devs were called kitten? If this forum wants civil discussion, then it needs to be civil. Instead the people here immediately go into barbarian mode at the slightest hint of an infraction.
“People” is a generalized term, not everyone immediately goes into barbarian mode. Just because some do doesn’t offset that others did not and still tried to carry on under the notions Arenanet wants as to play by. I’m really tired of seeing people going “well, someone said a naughty ooohhhhh bad” and that becomes a focus.
Now it comes down to how they communicate both options on the screen.
I am honestly shocked that they’re being allowed to revert this change (because I am convinced it was a higher-up decision).
I’m pretty shocked too. Though I doubt they’d retract something they said to a major gaming outlet (I hope I don’t have to eat my own words).
I’ll believe it once they confirm it.
So, if they’re changing it what does that say? The information they go by isn’t that accurate.
Arenanet seem to be aiming to please a market that I as a player seem to not be a part of, I’m considered a veteran and seemingly just have to accept it because… new players.
Ugly customer service. Just really puts Arenanet in a negative light. Personally, I had plans for more gem purchases but after reading Gaile comments and players reactions I’m very much considering lessening or stopping further gem purchases entirely.
Adding a button after the fact, while nice they listen, still highlights a disconnect with their thinking. Why was it so hard to think/consider a button or other option there in the first place?
Clearly, this kind of things highlights that Arenanet is not capable of gauging what their players actually want.
The answer is obvious. They knew what they were doing and it was deliberate.
I’m sure their metrics told them some players might get upset over it and there were acceptable margins of loss, but as usual they continue to underestimate us.
I really don’t believe they’re actually using gathered information. Just like they say they were testing the NPE for as long as they did.
I, as a customer, just don’t believe them anymore and that puts my desire to continue on with their service into serious consideration.

Kotaku is now reporting that Anet is planning to change in response to the outcry:
http://kotaku.com/guild-wars-2-players-angry-over-currency-exchange-chang-1649519173
Update: ArenaNet has responded with plans to update the Currency Exchange so players can use it as they wish. They offered the following statement:
“It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.
In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.
We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!"
Did they actually post that on the forums?
Not as far as I’ve seen, but then again they’ve got to tell the media first so they can go “The community has spoken and we have listened.” standpoint.
Curious…where are all of the people that blindly defend the questional decisions and direction of this game? Even they must be like “Wow…can’t really defend it here..”
No, I’m sure they could find near religious like nonsense to try and be Arenanet forum warriors, it just that there are so many people opposed to this it’s not funny, that and people have constructive thought instead of “OMGZ!!!11!!11 Anet sucks” comments.
I read a comment that Arenanet is going to take suggestions about all this. So, here goes.
So here’s my suggestion
Why not offer a system that combines the best of both worlds: both of your new ‘less confusing more like other shopping experiences’ options and the old one where you can tailor amounts to your shopping needs.
Follow Up———
Realistically, you do have both blocks of code already generated, you know both work. It would be unrealistic to think your system couldn’t run both. And really, what is so bad with offering your ‘shoppers’ the best of both worlds, ease of use and exact service?
What does confuse me is that you’re telling your ‘shoppers’ how to shop with you. That’s not really a customer friendly attitude.
There is no reason to limit the options of shopping to your players as the new system does now. You are limiting my ways of shopping with you for no good reason. I just don’t understand why you feel you need to take away options when there really doesn’t need to be the case. Seriously, you have both blocks of code… you’re saying the creators of the ‘fastest selling MMO in history" can’t put both on the same screen to please both the new players and the old ones who had zero problems using the old system?
Options. People love options.
