Get 10 rangers together and you’ll get 10 different builds. To each his own.
Some will say you need to do spirits and power ranger is weak. The you’ll see a well played power ranger and think “that’s weak?”.
Check out the builds, try them out, watch vids and practice. Stay away from crowd’s, thats almost always a recipe for a dirt nap.

Unfortunately you will find you need to pick niche build for whatever it is you like to do. I mostly flip camps and yaks, I’m feel confident when I have to fight someone. I’ll fight any straight up, when some lose some. You need to learn what the others characters can do. What weapons they carry is usually a huge tip off.

The build I run, 30, 30, 10, 0, 0, while not optimal for what I’m doing allows me to switch some talents and weapons and I can be spec’d for zerg running with out a whole trait respec and armor switch.

I like to think the Ranger gives you the most options to play as you want. It’s gets rough sometimes but for the most part you can have fun. Nothing like taking down the warrior who charges in thinking your easy or the theif.

Now if I could get my pet to be a little more like a mesmer’s I would be happy, but pet mechanics and AI are a whole other discussion.

I roam on my ranger. I’m not a duelist. I flip camps, kill sentries & yaks, bang on a door and kill the guards, and when I come across someone else I’ll fight them no matter the profession. I give as good as I get and generally blame myself when I lose.

When everything goes like it should it can be really amazing. When it does not it will be a disaster. Trouble is usually one thing goes wrong, pets stops to admire the flowers or you miss you rotation, we have to make that split decision to escape or try to recover. We’ve all done it. Said no biggie, fluffy’s taking a dump and I can pull this off and the next thing you downed wondering WTF. Fluffy’s standing there proud of herself.

I just wish we were more fluid. I’m leveling a warrior and while only 50 it is so much more fluid its not funny. I started GW2 on a guardian and when zerging got boring I did a necro and ranger. Ranger is more fun by far but I wish it was a lot better. Anet’s admission of the broken pet mechanic and our standing as last on the list for improvement just were’s you down.

If you remember Warriors were trash when the game started so I have hope that someday we’ll get some love. But I feel since we are not favored in dungeon groups or WvW it will a long time before we see anything.

I would not mind trying out a sniper type mechanic.

So I have been playing my ranger almost since launch. First 80 was a guardian and then the ranger, also took some time to get a necro to 80. I am no expert but I feel that I have a handle on most situations. I’m running a power/condi build, S/D and A/T. I know Axe, YUCK. But I have built around camp flipping/yaks so axe works for me.

My spec is pretty fluid so if I run in a group or zerg I can switch a few traits and equip SB or LB for at least be more support.

I have fought all classes solo and while I’m not a duelist I have felt that I gave as good as I got. Mesmer’s give me fits. Thieves don’t really bother me much since there are so many played badly, the good ones are tough. But I feel any well played class can be tough.

Today I got rocked by engineer. This guy was bombing me from max range. Sure with the LB I could hurt him but he would just skip out of range and jump back and bomb away. If I got close I was rooted for what seemed like an eternity. When I finally managed to beat him, after several tries it was from an evade of his snares and I felt a missed rotation on his part.

Like many have said it seems that every class does what we can do way better. I always took the point that people were frustrated and just venting. Like I am now. I enjoy the flexibility we have to change weps and pets to alter our attacks but it just seem like sometimes it’s not enough. But why do we have to be kitten perfect almost all of the time. I enjoy the fact that most people see a ranger and think easy kill and then get surprised when its not as easy as they though.

Why does every fight have be a near perfect performance?

Why does my pet stop to stand there looking at me in the middle of a fight??

Sry for the rant just a ranger blowing off some steam.

Cant sell gems either. I get the screen for buying and selling but the tabs are greyed out.

This basically they same debate that existed when I played DAOC.

If you want to GvG, fine play your way and I’ll play mine.

BUT…

What am I supposed to do when I get rolled by the enemy GvG team that’s supposedly in WvW “just for the fights”?? When the enemy GvG team is flipping our camps & towers even thought they here “just for the fights”??

You see the problem it presents. On one hand you want to be left alone to “have good fights” so then you should only be running through a BL to your fight club location and leaving everything and everyone else alone.

That rarely happens.

While I admit running a roaming ranger on one of the top 6 servers is a challenge because of their coverage it can still be rewarding. And yes running in the zerg ball and hitting 1 gets you more Wxp than roaming but you talk about helping your server.

First get off the main roads and explore. There are lots of places to hide as the zergs pass, there are lots of places to overlook camps, towers, routes to scout or to insure your safety when going after a camp.

Check out some of the other off builds. Lots of potential. Find some ranger buddies. A ranger group can pump out some nice DPS and flip camps quick. Those help your server in points, denial of supply. Slap yaks. Clear guards and siege ahead of your zerg. Lots of things to do.

ANET has definetly made it challenging for us but it is what it is.

Work with what we have. Sure that kitten thief may pop you from time to time but remind yourself that YOU roam completely visible with no “now you see me now you don’t” escape. Who’s playing with his fly open now??

When you waltz up behind that roaming warrior or necro who thinks he’s gonna get a camp easy and failed to look around and you pop him for some serious hurt he will be BS kittening about how we are OP. At least we’ll be able to sit back and enjoy a good laugh

I’m looking for a casual fun guild who likes to WVW but not worry too much about points and just want to have fun and BS while bashing heads. I’ve done the T1 mega zerg game and am looking for more small man/havoc type play. I don’t mind taking towers/keeps but am looking to find a home where when real life intervenes and I miss a few days I do not feel guilty about not helping the war effort. Started GW2 on CD, moved to SOS and now fight the good fight on BG.

I’ve played DAOC, WAR, AION, SWTOR, and GW2 with a side trip to Darkfall and Secret World. I dont mind helping the occasional PVE raid but my raiding days are over and I dont always have the time.

I play in NA during CST most nights time allowing and off and on on weekends.

I have an 80 guardian, 80 ranger, and 80 necro…others come and go

Yep, big time lag on transactions. You will get your items but about 10-15 minutes later.
At least it’s been that way with me. Anyone want some Mithril ore?? I have more than I really wanted.
