Thanks for all the replies
Yeah, I have 2 lvl 80 characters (Revenant and Mesmer) and a 73 elementalist, mesmer is fully equipped with exotic armor/trinkets and a couple ascended weapons I got from Tequatl, Rev has an ascended chestpiece, amulet and rings. The thing is I just don’t see a point in doing world bosses and other events anymore, I don’t feel rewarded for the time and effort I put into it. I’m not asking for ascended stuff once a day… but we have events you can only do once a day and all you get are crafting materials and a yellow item, exotic if you are VERY lucky… I remember back in early 2000’s when I played diablo 2 nonstop. I’d do mf runs all day doing the same bosses over and over and I still had a lot of fun, why? Because I felt rewarded doing so, I’d get unique items, sure most sucked but that’s how it’s supposed to be… You get the shiny stuff but not all of them are worth something, that’s not the case with guild wars. If I spent like 5-10 minutes doing mf runs on a somewhat challenging content like cow level, uber diablo, nihlathak, etc to get unique or set items, which represented the highest tier of loot you could find (the beautiful crafting system of rune words was both fun and noob friendly, something that could be done in this game too) then I’d feel rewarded even if the items sucked, there needs to be some rng to make it interesting too. But in GW2, I spend 15+ minutes in some epic boss fights or events that require a lot of people to work together to complete it… And I get blue and green items, maybe a yellow? No one even uses yellow items and there’s no other use to it than to salvage, which gives you like 1-5 of some materials you will need around 200ish to craft something else you might actually use… Can’t blame me for not feeling rewarded :/
So I’m a PvE kinda guy… I don’t like crafting and I don’t really enjoy pvp, I just love killing bosses and completing tasks to get loot and things like that. I thought I’d have that in this game, and I kinda did when I was starting and every new World Boss I could do was so much fun and challenging and new and awesome… But then I hit lvl 80, I had already killed pretty much all the World Bosses more than a few times each and I just have trouble feeling rewarded. Some fights are still challenging enough to not be boring but I just don’t feel like doing a daily boss fight for 10-15 minutes and get a few blue and green items I can but salvage… The world map is HUGE and every single zone has countless events, most are even DAILY rewards so why can’t I feel rewarded for doing said events? Do I really have to be forced to craft items to upgrade my character? Or participate in pvp? I mean the pvp is instanced so I thought it would be ok if I bought the game even though I’m a pve player. Why are ascended items account bound on aquire? Why can’t I farm the materials and give it to a friend who likes crafting to make it for me? Or hire someone? Maybe more Mystic Forge crafting that doesn’t require grinding your crafting skills? A Guild Hall upgrade with crafters? The game is really hard for new players, it’s not very noob friendly… I had over 450 hours of playing and all I had done besides world bosses was a single dungeon run that I had no idea what to do and just got yelled at by a veteran. Everyone expects you to play the berserker meta and have experience, most guides are 2-3 years outdated. Is this game really that narrow or am I missing something? Please tell me if I can play guild wars 2 and feel rewarded without being forced to do stuff I don’t want to. I like this game a lot but sometimes it’s just too frustrating :/
On a side note: I was about to quit the game like a week ago or so because it was just pointless but then I decided to put up a LFG to try to find a guild that could maybe change that a little. That’s when I found Perseus Veil, they’re a small group of players that have welcomed me and been nothing but amazing, teaching me about the game and not trying to transform me into a berserker android, I’m pretty sure they’re not the only ones like that out there so if you are in a similar position, there’s still hope.
Couple things I’d think about:
- If you want a more tanky offensive support
Why -> Good condi damage, some boon stripping and lots of might stacking with glint and fire fields from mace. Can also run Mallyx and get Spontaneous Destruction if more boon stripping is needed.
- If you want a healer offensiveish support
Why -> Good self and group healing with shield + Ventari, good condi removal with Ventari, amazing source of Protection with Tablet + Bolster Fortifications, projectile destruction and light combo field with Protective Solace, respectable condi damage and fire fields with mace, can play pretty much any other legend together with Ventari if you feel like it.
@EragamerLG
But if it’s not supposed to be a weapon swap replacement then why does it say on the very first line of instructions “The new #F2 skill will replace weapon swapping”?
Anyways, I don’t really like the idea of adding a weapon summoning skill to a class that has most of it’s weapons imbalanced. First balance the current weapons and legends so you don’t end up with 95% of the players using the same weapons, specs, traits and legends then think about adding new stuff :’(
Been running ventari stance from the very beginning of my revenant journey and it looks like I’m one of the few people that actually like it, sure it’s still weaker than other legends (specially shiro with it’s stunbreak, damage boost/healing and near-infinite endurance) but it’s ok if you like to play a more supportive character. I used it with a healer tankish sword/shield & staff build with cleric gear but my solo play was pretty terrible with little to no damage now I swapped to a new condition mace/sword & shield build with settler/dire gear and it’s all good, I have good self and group healing, I’m fine as a tank, I have nice condi damage and I can offer fire fields for all dem combos including area might plus I can remove boons if needed. The thing with the tablet is you need to understand how to make it better than it is if you just leave it on the healing pulse… Ventari’s Will is a pretty good healing skill if you can get it to pass through people, you can trait your tablet to give area blind/regeneration and/or protection/might on a 2-3s cooldown and you can get yourself a tablet boosting runeset like Rune of Altruism, Rune of the Aristocracy, Rune of Balthazar, etc… In the end, Ventari legend could, and should, definitely get a few buffs and tweaks but it’s ok now, just not to the zerker full dps standard builds.
I like playing support and I like conditions so I’ve come up with this build.
The purpose of this build is to stack fire/bleed/torment on your foes with your mace skills together with Corruption traits while stacking might to allies with mace #2 and #3 buffed by Herald’s Shared Empowerment trait.
- Using Glint you should have Facet of Light and Facet of Elements on whenever possible, this will improve your toughness, help with might stacking and it’s easier to kite when you have swiftness plus Facet of Elements is a great burning nuke when you’re running a condi build and at a pretty low upkeep and cooldown.
- Using Ventari you have a couple of different choices. If you feel like you won’t be taking a lot of damage you can pick Tranquil Balance trait (Salvation) and have a 20% boost to healing or if you feel like might stacking is more important you can pick Nourishing Roots and have a Regeneration buffed by Shared Empowerment. No matter what choice you make you should have Facet of Nature ALWAYS on when using Ventari. A lot of people frown on Facet of Nature but that’s because they play zerker but you are a support, your damage is condition based and you’re using Ventari so energy won’t be a problem plus you’ll be buffing outgoing boon duration by 50%, that means you and EVERYONE around you will get a 50% boon duration to EVERYONE around and when you’re with a party/squad this can really help a lot plus you get 2 upkeep improving your toughness and can also pop One with Nature for extra boons if you feel like it. Rune of Balthazar also gives your Ventari’s Will a neat 3 seconds burn on a 10s cooldown, pretty cool.
You can change a few things in this build to your liking like Apothecary gear will give you more healing power in exchange for less toughness, you can mix some more rabid or rampage gear and change the runes and sigils to whatever you like, I’m not 100% done with it myself.
One thing I’d love to have in ventari too is more combo fields since it’s a support legend that doesn’t really have a very reliable heal unless you keep moving it around and it’s hard to do this sometimes because the 2 best sources of healing are Ventari’s Will, which I feel like 10 energy is a bit too much for a 120 radius pass through skill that’s very hard to use when fighting because, more often than not, people won’t stay still, and Natural Harmony that has a 2 seconds delay and, again, people will probably be moving around and miss the healing. I think both skills could get a -5 energy, bigger radius on Will and lower or no delay on Harmony. Staff needs a rework asap, #2 is probably the worst skill in the game with an effective 20 energy cost for a rather medium damage and a negligible 3s weaken and a laughable 0.5s daze, a #4 that doesn’t really work most of the time and a #5 that, despite of being an amazing dps for a good energy cost and cd, it’s pretty much just a dodging skill vs most of the pve content since almost all the major mobs are immune to knockback and if you don’t drag the target with you through the whole “journey” the damage isn’t really that high. Salvation spec should also be changed, if not reworked at least they could put the Natural Abundance trait in the first line with Nourishing Roots and Blinding Truths because that could maybe improve ventari heals a little.
@UnbentMars
The reason I went Devastation instead of retribution is because I need it as a damage boost for solo play or I can’t really kill anything, I’d love to use retribution or even invocation to actually have stunbreak just like I’d love to use jalis instead of glint but not having a speed boost and the casting time on jalis’ heal is just too much for me :/
You can abuse ventari tablet if you really want protection uptime, just get Bolster Fortifications which grants protection to nearby allies (including you) when using a healing skill. With the 2 seconds cooldown on Ventari’s Will and a bit of a % boon or protection duration you can get protection always on if you spam it. I’m actually running a support healer herald that’s currently like this:
I basically just auto attack with it and move the tablet around giving buffs and healing people or if it’s a condi heavy fight like wyvern and the like I just use Protective Solace to make a light combo field because the staff’s 1 final hit is a whirl finisher, ofc my damage isn’t that great but I contribute with tanking, healing and buffing might/fury to the dps zerkers and I like playing support characters so this is pretty fun to me
Yeah, the orbs are a cool concept but it’s not very effective, specially when you are doing like world boss and other crowded events… You can only move around and hope you run by some orbs lol I tried cleric + rune of dwayna and it’s pretty cool using the orb regen/swiftness trait and even the tablet regen trait or glint heal but then you’re just a healing machine that needs to stand in close combat range unless you swap to hammer but then what’s the point on specing for staff :/ I’m waiting anxiously for a balance patch to rev
TLDR; You should probably not use the staff for anything other than condi removal and only if you really want to because there are other ways to remove conditions like ventari tablet, Generosity/Purity sigils. or other players
First things first, I love the staff. When I started my rev I was using sword and axe and I thought it was so cool but then I got a staff and decided to try it out and it was love at first sight. I had already decided I wasn’t going for a full dmg kamikaze build and the supportish skills of the staff were just perfect for me. Sure #2 does suck, the weakness debuff is negligible, the daze even more so and the whole “if using a skill” just makes it even worse, #4 glitches more often than not and #5 requires practice to use it effectively but I was happy and ejoying using my staff… Then Herald happened. You get a shield with 2 healing skills, one is a 3s block and the other heals for substantially more than staff #4, has faster casting time, lower energy cost and same cooldown. So if you use Sword/Shield you get better heals than the staff with Shield #4, you get better escapes (Staff = #3: 2s block, #5: 1s evade/move forward. Sword/Shield = #3: 2s evade, #5: 3s block) and way more dps with Sword’s auto vulnerability + Devastation’s Targeted Destruction + Devastation’s Vicious Lacerations + Devastation’s Swift Termination, adding all of these you’d probably do more than double the staff’s damage because it’s not hard to get at least 10 stacks of vulnerability with devastation + sword so that’s 10% then stacked vicious laceration adds another 10% then 7% from targeted destruction and 20% from swift termination, do note that you can get swift termination and even targeted destruction bonus using the staff it’s just not as effective because you will only have 25% chance on hit to apply vulnerability so in the end sword can easily get 27% plus the 20% from swift termination while using the staff you can kinda maybe but probably not I mean really get 7% bonus plus 20% from swift termination. Btw did I mention that sword already has a higher base dps than the staff? So yeah…
