My opinion is that the forums should be a place for the community to express their concerns not just talk shop talk (which I enjoy as well). As long as people aren’t being personally attacked and the threads are more or less on topic, then what’s the big issue?

Moderators just shut down the second humorous ranger thread that has surfaced post-nerf. Can’t we have our therapy?

When someone writes a humorous post, it is not supposed to be inflammatory.

With no official response for weeks, can’t we at least crack jokes to keep our morale high?

Very good post OP. I have moving in that direction as well in my WvW build. I started using SB / GS with canines and it worked really well last night. Still need some help on traits, what do you think is the best trait set for this type of max mobility build?

ranger pets currently do not save names, the names are associated with the pet slots and reset when new pets are selected from the menu.

Please include either function:
1. Store a table for each ranger with names for each skin so we can have names for each of our pets. (preferred).
2. Do not overwrite our custom names when we switch to a new pet from the menu so we don’t have to rewrite names.

I know it may seem like a small point, but since PVE, dungeon, PVP, WvW all require different pets to be effective currently most rangers are not even bothering to custom name their pets.

I’ve noticed it as well, about a 20 FPS drop since last patch. Additionally, I’m getting frequent d/c’s in Queensdale but no other regions. Hopefully just a temporary situation.

I started an alt for every class just to mess around a bit. So far I am liking guard and ele the best.

I’m loving GS and staff on my guardian, there are some great 2H buffing builds floating around based around might stacking that I can’t wait to try.

Northern ShiverPeaks Queensdale frequent d/c

Since last server reset over the weekend, Queensdale region only on Northern Shiverpeaks has had chronic lag and disconnects. I know this is not only a personal issue because the /map chat is full of people having the same issue. Here’s what happens:
1. In combat or crowded area with lots of FX.
2. An attack will glitch out mid animation. In the meantime, movement animation remains in place.
3. Server disconnect error box will pop up, dumped to character select screen.

This has only been happening since last patch, and only in Queensdale. It is annoying since I am trying to level my human alt in that area atm.

Full BM spec seems situational in PVP. If you’re going for pure survivability and running a bear, it would certainly help with the health absorb from “guard me”. As was brought up above, cats are nice for their big hit openers, especially against squishies. In my experience cast can be quite good in WVW, especially against classes that have inductions as they have to remain mobile or get stomped on.
So killing machines? Not really, although I have to spend much time with ranged pets in 1v1 matches. However they do have their uses.

I found that it makes a big difference who starts doing damage first. So you may want to send in your pet with F1 prior to engaging the mob at range, and see if that makes a difference. Even with Risen in CS, I can send the mob in and get a good 6-8 seconds of pet aggro before they focus on me (at which point they are mostly dead with SB & traps).

Yeah this fight took a long time for me as well (Ranger) with a lot of deaths. Ended up LOS’ing the mouth down at the bottom by the columns so that I could pick off the spectrals one by one. Once all of the spectrals are gone you can focus burn the mouth, I think he has 3 spectral spawn cycles. One thing I couldn’t figure out is whether or not killing the little runner mobs made a difference or not, they didn’t seem to be doing anything.

And yes, the friendly NPC’s die WAY too fast in this level.

The problem is that Ranger isn’t a class where you can bind a macro to your keyboard/mouse and Bull’s Rush/Frenzy/100B or C&D/Steal/Backstab your way to victory.

This was one of the reasons I quit Rift. Everything was so macro optimized that for PVP folks actually hitting skills individually were a sick disadvantage.

For some reason, just kiting around and hitting 1-1-1-1-1-1 is not my idea of fun… (Hmmm sounds familiar).

Actually regarding the short-bow, it’s never a question of just hitting 1 and waiting for death. The fun part is sending in the pet (I like felines F2 pounce for opener), rolling through the enemy, hitting 3 on the flipside, and then QZ and crossfire for the kill. And with beastmaster 5 points you can keep the quickness going even longer by pet swapping. Alas, those were the days…. last week.

People wanting Rangers to be more like howitzers and less like the versatile class they are doesn’t make it so.

Oooo, can I have a howlitzer as a pet? I would pay a metric kittenton of karma for that.

What? Axe has a chill, GS has a stun, LB has a cripple and a knockback, SB has an evade back, a stun, and snare.

You should also be running wolf-type pets – they have amazing CC.

I did not say that we did not have any cc, I said that the cc for those weapons could be improved.
My main point was that folks should not expect for ranger to be top-tier dps ranged, that was never the focus of the class.

Why the hate? LTP is such a tiresome, uninformative response…

So here’s my viewpoint (WvW disc):
I don’t think rangers were EVER meant to be top of range DPS. Sorry, but there is just no correlation between typical range-nuke archers in other MMO’s and rangers in GW2. The ranger is not Legolas, was never meant to be Legolas, will never be Legolas. Instead, we get the vastly inferior Aragorn prototype
So it doesn’t bother me that warrior, engineer, or whatever can do more range damage than us. What does bother me is that the key to our class is supposed to be versatility, and we don’t seem to be effective at anything except for shooting up at and down from walls in gate combat.
I think adding more CC would be a great way to go with the class. We already have some with sword (please, fix the rooting bug!), however axe, GS, and LB could all use a lot of work. That way, who cares if we do less damage than warrior rifle spec if we can snare, cripple, and poison or way to a kill?

For those who say that would be too much like Necro, big deal… There is by necessity a lot of overlap between professions given how flexible each one is, and since ANet seems to believe that philosophically aesthetics matter as much as function, have 2 functionally similar profs or at least overlapping builds for those profs that look completely different seems a pretty valid way to go.

If our data shows shortly that shortbow is now not effective we can certainly address that, but would do so by improving other skills on that weapon rather than by reintroducing the spam on 1 and the bugs that it was creating.

Please keep in mind that builds using shortbow tend to be around stacking +cond, so loss of bleed stacking for #1 is really a killer for shortbow. Maybe buffing the #2 skill could be an option…

Also, any updates on the sword rooting bug? That is another one that really cripples the condition build for ranger.

Tonight is the third time since patch that the client has made my computer completely shut down. I consistently get 40-60 FPS and do not have heat issues. Please help me determine what could be wrong. Log attached:

FWIW this has happened to me as well, once during beta and once last night. At first I thought it was overheating but none of my components was over 40 deg C so it seemed to be GW2 specific. I will attach my log file as well when I get home today.
