Level 80 Elementalist
Sanctum of Rall
Here are some highlights from my WvWvW streaming last night. I’m running with Spartan of Gaiscioch on the Tarnished Coast Borderlands, and we employ a few mesmer portal tactics to catch them completely off guard.
I posted a quick intro to some of the cool Halloween stuff that went in late last night. Can’t wait to see more of the holiday unfold!
I was able to finish this quest last night even after skipping all the cutscenes (since it was my second attempt). When I got to the “Defend the gates” step I cleared the risen and had the problem of nothing happening next, just like everyone else. I alt-tabbed to a browser window to begin searching for solutions, and when I tabbed back – there were more risen to kill!
It appears the timing of the second wave of risen is off – and they take a long time to appear if you’ve skipped cutscenes.
Actually – the solution ended up being patience. I waited for awhile there, and eventually more enemies showed up.
I’m having the problem also.
I’ve got a 15" late 2011 MBP with 8GB RAM and a 1GB AMD Radeon 6770M. The framerate is actually pretty nice for me with the “Best Appearance” preset, but I’m definitely getting the horrible low-fi audio you’re talking about. It’s very tinny, and there’s seems to be some clipping or distortion throughout. It’s bad enough that it’s driven me back to Bootcamp for now until this is fixed.
Konkle what time zone are you in and what days do you usually play?
I’m in US Mountain Time and I’m on almost every night, usually starting at 8 or 9 pm but often earlier.
I believe people just need to take a step back and strategize.
I completely agree. I think people are used to dungeons being the easy-mode group content, and that is thankfully not the case here in Guild Wars. As for combos, I’ve seen some decent tutorials on YouTube. I agree, though, a lot of people aren’t even aware of them. They’re certainly not being used like they could be.

In order to create a real native client, I believe the dev team would have to take the portions of the game that rely on Direct X and re-implement then in OpenGL. This would be a pretty labor-intensive process, so my guess is that they’re using the Cider port to see how much Mac adoption they get. If Mac ends up being a significant portion of their audience, then it would make sense for them to develop a fully native Mac client. If not, they can still support the game in a slightly diminished fashion with Cider.
I’m getting clearly degraded sound quality as well, regardless of whether I’m using Mumble or not. I’m using an analog headset, not a USB one. This along with the lack of High textures will keep me from using the Mac client as my main client for now, but I’m looking forward to seeing the issues fixed and erasing my Boot Camp partition!
Ascalonian Catacombs – Story Mode
This is a guide to the surprisingly difficult first dungeon that you encounter in Guild Wars 2 – the Ascalonian Catacombs. This covers the story mode, which is available beginning at level 30. I love how challenging the dungeons are, and I plan to make more guides as I progress. Let me know what you think!
Find me in game as Keldrig on Darkhaven, part of the Eternal Dominion [ED].
Thanks! Have you tried the Catacombs yet? What do you think about the skill level needed to complete it?
