I honestly don’t see a point in mounts, we have plenty of teleport locations that players use and without them you would have no way of resurrecting; putting in mounts would only compromise the teleportation feature and the economy would unnecessarily inflate because no one is using teleports anymore.
Also the GW2 combat system is designed specifically to punish you for attempting to flee from the combat zone by slowing you down – having a mount only compromises that feature. That’s two compromises without even looking into the mount implementation itself – how will it be executed, how could it be designed to ensure these compromises are minimised? It may end up being the case of redesigning both the teleportation networks and the combat system – which I am not in favour of. Sorry, I just don’t think mounts are a good idea.

While I would also like better camera control…
This game is now 9 months old and still lacks that, do you really think it hasn’t been brought up before? ANet’s response was something in the line of “it’s on the todo list”. Right now they’re busy with other things…
#Esports
That doesn’t surprise me, though to be honest I have been watching GW2 Guru over on their Twitch.tv and the e-sports is pretty cool I have to admit, obviously I intend not to derail the subject but I thought I needed to clarify that esports is good for community.
I suppose then the question is that we can’t have restrictive camera movement especially when casting competitive games. You want as much camera control as possible to make the casting experience good enough, also to be able to see a lot of battles.
Free camera control would definitely be a plus when spectating PVP matches, especially when introducing a map before the game starts. Personally I think spectators should be given a large range of camera options, camera hotkeys for snapping to certain positions on the map – for example, CTRL+F1 to set a camera snap point, and then press F1 to reach that snap point, maybe have preset snap points for each of the different capture locations on PvP maps, make it easier to spectate battles and switch between them.
Just small camera control options like that will make esports a hell of a lot easier to cast.
Back in the days of World of Warcraft, I was able to move my camera into first-person view and be able to take screenshots of the scenery.
I expected to see that same functionality in this game when I picked it up, but I still played it regardless. However, I still want to capture some glorious memories of exploration without my character taking up half the screen – sure, it’s nice to see your character as a foreground but in most situations it’s better to be able to see your surroundings by having that freer camera control.
I propose that camera control should give us the ability to zoom into first person, and then I can make my gallery of memories come to life as a background slideshow on my desktop.
Also, I’m not too sure about the camera’s snap points – the camera will snap about 4-5 feet apart, and when you zoom out from the character at the current closest snap point, it feels too far away. The second closest snap point is “okay” for me, but I would like to have more control over the camera’s snapping, maybe by having an option in the settings menu that lets me control the camera’s snapping sensitivity, where higher sensitivity strengthens camera snapping to certain points, and of course allowing camera snapping to go in front of the characters, and not always having it stay behind the character for the sake of better screenshots.
I know this is not World of Warcraft by any stretch of the imagination, but at least in those days I had far better control over my camera and camera snapping was minimal, making the exploration experience better and more enjoyable. Also having the ability to first person may give some role-playing players more first-hand character control to make it feel like a role-playing experience, after all it is a role-playing game.
Also, thanks for checking me out in advance!
