PVT armor is fine for Wv3. I run D/D+SB with full zerker orbs, and trinkets… zerging, roaming, havoc and I do fine.

Interesting to know that at least one person is getting some mileage out of Soldier’s as a Thief. :-) Thanks for responding.

After a concurrent discussion on Reddit, I think I’ll just farm gold and tokens in CoF. With my gold, I’ll buy Exotic Dire off of the TP, and with my tokens I’ll buy Exotic Berserker.

Lastly, you can do whatever you want, with whatever build you want… and you’re gonna get facerolled regardless of your gear and equipment when you first go out; so get some karma gear and futz with your build before you spend your hard earned gold on something.

True enough. I spent some time in WvW with some cheap Rare Berserker gear, trying to get the hang of D/P. I felt so awkward, trying to time my burst without missing my smoke field with my Heartseeker or whiffing a key Backstab because I misjudged my range. I leveled by condi Deathblossom spamming, so it’s a new playstyle. :-)

LOL. My questions are fourfold, not threefold. I am kitten .

Hi all. I could use a little help, or at least a sanity check, on gearing my about-to-be-80 Thief alt. First, some notes:

• I’m pretty strictly a WvWer, and I’m an altaholic. So—I’m flat broke.

• I have LOADS of Karma. :-) (Who doesn’t? I know.)

• I was planning on rolling a Dire P/D Thief for havoc/roaming with buddies and the occasional dalliance into zergs. (Esp. appealing with Crit. Dmg. nerfs on the horizon.)

• Apparently you can’t buy Dire gear from Orr’s Karma vendors. Bleh.

• OK, fine. I’ll go bursty zerker Thief with D/D or D/P. Should be fun, at least until Ferocity arrives with a 10% nerf or whatever.

• No Karma vendors for zerker gear either. BLEH!

So my questions are threefold:

1) Am I correct in understanding that you’re limited to Soldier, Rabid, or Magi gear if you want to buy Exotics with Karma?

2) If so, has anyone had any level of success with a PTV solo/roamer D/P or D/D Thief? Seems counter-intuitive, and not at all fitting with the burst build I want. (I already have a Warrior for my tanky PTV havoc build.) I don’t want Rabid as an alternative to Dire, because the precision is basically useless for condi Thief, and it’s too squishy for me to wade through the occasional zerg.

3) If there is no useful Karma gear for me to purchase, and I’m very low on gold and Badges of Honor, does anyone have any tips on how to most effectively transfer Karma to gold? I have over 1m to play around with.

4) If I’m out of luck regarding all of the above, is there any point in me trying to purchase Rare gear with Karma, to outfit a bursty zerker build? My hunch is that I need to hit Exotic to have enough burst to make the damage reward worth the squishiness risk.
