I’ve been running 10.8 since january (late winters day update and few days before f&f’s first part) and have not experienced any problems until the latest patch. Either the performance of the game as of late has been really eating up the resources or I’ve been missing out on a supposed updated minimal spec to run the game on mac.
on the side note mavericks does make the performance of my pc significantly slower running other games as well. I’ve tried installing w7 bootcamp but alas so much failure has led me to giving up(and since the game already runs smoothly at that time). perhaps ill try again since I’m out of options. thanks for the response anyway
running a mbp2012 (non-retina lowest specs) been playing gw2 since january and haven’t had any problems with it. however, since the latest update( the nightmares within) I’ve been getting frame rates of 5-7fps which makes the game virtually unplayable (15-20+fps usually). I have just updated my OS to mavericks to see if it could solve the problem however its still the same. Although so, after updating to mavericks and checking activity monitor, theres a process ‘kernel_task’ which takes up 300% of cpu and a massive chunk of RAM every time I’m running gw2. when i quit gw2 it drops down to a negligible amount, very insignificant. Anyone experiencing this too or might have a solution?
I think most of the prestige of these weapons come from the exclusivity and how brand new it is. Sure, the more expensive any skin is would be directly proportional to its prestige but rather i think this case is especially true for BL ticket skins because almost every other new skin thats added to the game is in the BLTC. The champ weapon skins were a really nice addition. But ultimately, with ALL new armour skins being exclusive to the gem store, and this game having a currency conversion system, it really does encourage more grinding for gold(for gems and indirectly BLTC keys). And considering the meta to get gold is rather repetitive it really gets to a boring grind fast. There are so many fun, challenging things to do in the game yet almost none of them provide a decent incentive to convince us to go do them(have fun and get good loot!). I think either they add more incentives to various activities in the game, or they add more elite rewards for completing elite content (i.e. queen’s gauntlet, i dont really give a kitten about minis, but the amount of challenge it took to beat liadri really had a sense of achievement towards it, i think thats a more positive prestige rather than value of prestige), i think this may get rid of grinding and encourage people to engage in more challenging activities. Just a thought.
How is it a completely different discussion when it is relevant and i am providing some insight? Are you implying that you wouldnt like to see this being developed into something which is cough “skill based”? I don’t enjoy it as it is now. It makes the mobs sort of easier but i really am wishing they would develop upon this.
Sorry, didn’t think I needed to explain that.
OP starts a debate along the lines of: “don’t like it, shouldn’t be here, take it away and never do it again.”
People like me say: “I do like it, keep it up and hopefully do more with it in the future.”
I never said it was perfect or couldn’t be improved on. I just wanted to voice that I do like it, and don’t think it should be removed.Your saying you like the idea, but think it’s boring the way it is. You want it to be improved on, which is an entirely different discussion than “should it be in the game at all?”
From what you have said it seems you like the “idea” which means you are in favor of it being in game. But you would like them to do more with it. The ideal solution would be to create a thread, something like “Ways to improve Mob down state:”
Rather than focusing on my post about liking the idea. My opinion is not inferior to yours just because the current implementation isn’t good enough for you yet.
Sigh, so now just trying to discuss and shed some light on the topic with my insight implies that im totally off topic? I’ll just lay it off here then. Many internets for you.
Love the finishers
For those complaining about a waste of time, give me a break! Move onto another mob, get more tagging done while someone else finishes it. And if you are fighting by yourself, it’s a much needed “skill based” mechanic to have to manage mobs ressing each other. As opposed to the normal “give it more health to make it harder!”I disagree. While i dont complain that it is a waste of time but rather it dumbs down the AI to just prioritise ressing, paling other choices which is a need in PvP. I agree that this mechanic is a brilliant idea. But with the AI as it is its just making them all the more easier to beat and is hardly “skill based”. I do firmly believe that a more intelligent AI would make this mechanic fantastic and challenging and would be hard for it to get old. Just my opinion
That seems like a completely different discussion. “Not as good as it could be” is a far cry from the OP “No.”
On a related note, seeing a whole lot of people in game going around solo killing courtier mobs (and ignoring everything else) for what seems to be no other reason than to use their finishers, lol.

I’d have to agree with this. All this is doing is alienating the majority of the playerbase. Don’t get me wrong, I think there are plenty of ways for Anet to make a quick buck here and there, but when EVERYTHING is in the cash shop, it just makes the whole thing feel shallow.
So you’re telling me that the majority of the player base can’t spare $10 for an armor set? lol.
If you hadn’t noticed, ALL the new armour sets have only been in the gem store and this doesn’t apply to almost ANY good MMORPGs after running a successful 1+year. I would spare $10 for an armour just to support the game but so far…. The game in itself hasn’t been really improved considering there’s so much temporary content with no decent loot so far ive seen. And considering the game has a currency conversion system implemented it pretty much does convince most people not to spend their money and rather to farm gold(which is a tedious and repetitive meta). Again, this is just my opinion.
These finishers just make fights against these mobs easier. The thing about the downed state in PvP or WvW is that its pivotal to finish off the enemy because the enemy could still deal a decent amount of damage (if traited) and down you too, and then another one of his buddies comes to res him. Considering almost every class has a CC move when downed or shadowstepping move, and how the AI lazily auto attacks you while downed and just constantly using bandage waiting for his buddy to get him up, and that his buds would just run to him and res him without having to CC you or consider your health (i.e. if your hp is low, his buddy would rather finish you off first rather than ressing) which pretty much draws a line between PvE and PvP. The idea is there, but the simplistic AI just makes them look more silly. I am not sure about some players who have not touched PvP that much whether they may or may not like it, but as a player who’s retired from 700 tourney matches, I’d say improve the AI first then we’re talking. This would really be an interesting mechanic added to PvE making it really challenging and fun.
i find it amusing that after 9 pages of some rather insightful comments, no forum mod has even touched this topic.
Repost without provocation after a friendly message from a moderator:
I really don’t understand all this QQ about items being available from the gem store only. The currency converter exists solely for the reason that everyone is able to get every item in the game.
‘but man, 1 gem costs like a 100g’
No it doesn’t, I just checked the rate and 800 gems needed for a fancy new armor set costs exactly 56g, that is less than 50% of a full T3 cultural armor set without the need for transmutation crystals.
I also think that if the infamous Infinite Continue Coin was just available from Moto for 30g nobody would have complained, instead most ppl went haywire complaining about Anet’s p2w philosophy when all they had to was to use the converter to get the gems needed to buy the weapon.
What i think most people are trying to say is that rather than putting the new armour sets exclusively to the gem store, why not put them as an incentive in the living world content? And yes, this game is hardly p2w but rather since all the new skins are in the gem store (or BLC) and having most of the playerbase not wanting to spend real money on gems, majority of us will have to go farm gold which is really a pain and IMO not the way the game is meant to be played.
To extend my feelings regarding this topic, i feel that yes, regardless of how ugly these armours may look, i do feel like they should add it not via the gem store because really not only do most of the activities in the game lack incentive, but there hardly is any ‘fun’ way to get gold and everytime i play this game, it feels like im not playing the game the way im supposed to. I really hope theyd do something about it because im pretty sure some of us is getting fed up with everything new being in the gem store and other weapon skins being palette-swapped to those currently existing…
So with the inevitable rise of gem prices, and the inevitable continuing of it, naturally there had to be more armour skins that are exclusive to the gem store!
In a game such that it is vanity-centric and almost everyone is using entirely the same armour(which looks universally good but totally mainstream), instead of adding more armour skins which could be attained by means of PvE (or generally anything else, hell look at the amount of activities this game has to offer, but then again NONE of them give decent incentive), they had to add them in the gem store! Hurray for gold farming!
Really is it just me or Anet isnt trying to think harder about how to fix the game and make it more enjoyable with its inevitable dedicated playerbase leaving the game due to its lack of incentive with almost every aspect of the game. Yes, i love this game to death, there are so many activities which are incredibly fun and unique to the repetitive MMORPG tropes out there, but there seems hardly any incentive with these activities which largely saps out all the fun out of the game considering most MMORPGs are basically loot driven grinding(my opinion).
My suggestion is that rather than adding these new armour and weapon skins to RNG boxes or the only way to get them is buy getting gems, put them maybe as an incentive to various activities within the game. Putting these skins in the gem store largely influences more grinding in which everyone hates, and which Anet believes to building gw2 to a non grinding experience which i believe they could. But rather the game in its current state is convincing people to go farm gold via farming champs or any other meta whatnot. Sure you need gems so the game has more support, but largely this would only work short term and not long term, and dont forget that most players are trying to avoid cashing in on the game by buying gems with real money.
So please Anet. Stop putting all these armour skins and weapon skins exclusive to the gem store or black lion chests. This makes the ‘living world’ concept of the game (or rather its bi-weekly update) rather hallow and very temporary compared to updates in other MMORPGs. I really love gw2 for trying really hard to be different with other MMORPGs and it does great as a start, but these updates are really really getting to some of our nerves.
I think the amount of Karma is okay. I’ll admit I still have 2,5m as I’ve never spent much and I do WvW and Temples quite often, so I get a nice amount.
Legendary Weapons were meant to be a long-term goal, and as such bottlenecks were/are needed. And Karma was able to be gather much too fast in the past to be a bottleneck.
Apart from that Karma now is account bound, which makes up for alot IMO.
Account bound karma does little to nothing in legendary making. When you buy obsidian shards they are already account bound.
i agree that cs farming is great for karma. here, tarnished coast’s frostgorge champ train is consistently zerg-y but its hard to convince these “bots” to go to cs instead to farm and yes cs doesnt only have good karma but the champ skins that drop from cs champ boxes do sell higher than frostgorge’s (other than quaggan’s shell pouch)
wvw is good karma in bulk but considering it takes time and a tad luck for getting a good zerg really is a factor as well. thus i think queensdale champ train still generates more guaranteed karma per hour. and also considering that my server (tc) is currently against BG and SOR (not to mention JQ and BG the week before) it really is pretty hard. these and sadly my computer cant handle wvw either crashing every 15 minutes —
fotm is undoubtedly the best source of karma, but unfortunately there are just some of us who dont have the time to commit to fotm either.
honestly im interested in starting a fotm swamp fractal karma farming. just keepin to reroll a low level swamp fractal to get optimum karma… anyone interested?
pretty much too much nerf happened happened within the last few patches and even the compensation hardly made up for it… IMO we should maybe have the choice to getting the original liquid karma in place for the essence of luck
I remember a time when karma kept flowing like water. Unfortunately, times have changed. I currently am working to make a legend and unlike ever other case i had in making a legendary, i had problems with karma. Not gold. So here are a couple of reasons why karma is kittenedly hard to get in it’s current state
1. Daily/Monthly liquid karma ~ Remember when you actually got 5500 karma everyday and 10 of those jugs for monthly? What do you get now? Err…. 600 karma? And 6k for monthly? I get that the developers thought of nerfing this because of the introduction of the new account bound MF and essences of luck. But really considering MF only improves your luck which is totally unstructured and not a guaranteed improvement, and the fact that the progression of Luck is getting steeper, how does 50 luck make up for 4900 karma really?
2. Dungeon bosses/champs dont give guaranteed karma anymore ~ Before champ boxes, every other dungeon champ/legend mini boss dropped 400 liquid karma off their Boxes of Wondrous Goods which could lead up to ~3k karma on every dungeon run (without DR). When champ boxes was introduced karma was still very abundant too considering every champ box had a guaranteed 400 liquid karma. However, now the liquid karma you’d get from these champs are not guaranteed and have very small percentage to actually drop it. Considering again, that champ farm is possibly the most viable way to get gold as you get guaranteed silver+craft mats+gear, you still have a sliver of luck to get more gold if you get say, a rare or an exotic. Karma however, is totally structured and there is totally NO room for luck whatsoever so the grind would be indefinitely more hardcore than farming gold.
3. No viable way of attaining karma in current state other than events ~ Well i guess this one is a bit subjective. i find that the only viable way to get karma now is to farm events (well, duh) but the supposed “best” place for this is usually forsaken; the cursed shore. I remember when half the server population actually farmed here and while its abit of a grind, it was actually pretty fun compared to the grind i currently am running. Again this is just a personal opinion mostly.
4. Karma boosts not affecting liquid karma ~ Well not really important now considering attaining liquid karma is kitten now.
Well these are just the few problems i have with karma… im currently farming champs in queensdale in place of frostgorge’s champs (which undoubtedly drops more silver and better crafting mats) cause the champs here are mostly events… I am just a casual gamer so i only have 3-5 hours of gameplay and largely is spent on farming this karma till i manage to make my legendary or when i decide to actually give up which is practically ~15k karma a day on weekdays which means i probably need <8weeks to get all the karma i need. i actually remember the time where grinding actually felt fun as every activity had its incentive. GW2 has an abundance of activities with much potential lost (IMO). All these activities definitely are fun and exciting, in all my years of playing MMOs never had my interest be so piqued with the uniqueness of the game against MMORPG tropes being cloned every other year. PvP too is fun, but it lacks incentive other than a cool title. Then again maybe its just me. Do discuss as i am interested in the community’s methods and perspective as well
