I recently purchased a MBPr and I have been playing the Guild Wars 2 mac beta on it (Below I will post my system specs). I have noticed an alarming amount of heat coming from in between the keyboard and the screen. I understand this is normal, but it still concernes me. I also purchased Temperature Gauge from the App Store so I could monitor just how high the temperatures got. At idle the CPU runs between 30 and 40 degrees celsius. During intense fights or in WvW the CPU and spike all the way up to 90-100 degrees celsius. It is winter here in Texas so my dust-free room is kept very cool. My graphics settings are capped off at 30 fps for smooth performance and also so that my GPU and CPU are not running at 100% for the amount of time that I play. Is this anything to be concerned about? I would like to get as much life as I can out of this notebook.
Macbook Pro Retina 15"
2.6 gHz Intel core i7
16 GB ddr3 RAM
256 ssd
nVidia GeForce 650m 1024mb
OS X 10.8.2
tl;dr: Guild wars 2 on MPBr CPU reaching temperatures up to +/- 90 degrees celsius. Should I be worried?
My specs are as follows:
MBPr 15"
2.6 ghz i7
16 gigs RAM
256 ssd
nVidia geforce 650m
On “best performance” setting I get about 120-130 fps at 1680×1050, but that is with graphically everything set on low. I cranked most of the graphics to high with the exception of shaders and shadows, and I run at about 40-60 FPS depending on the city that I am in. For smooth, consistent performance I capped the FPS at 30. I also did this so my CPU and GPU aren’t running at 100% every time I log on because I play a few hours a day.
