Enjoying some of the extra stories, but......

Had the game since it came out, enjoyed most of it. Not into ‘suicide’ levels. real life is tough enough for some of us, need the fun. Got so far in Dragons Reach 2 Story, until the ’ Recalibrating the Waypoints’ quest. What a drag this one has turned out to be. Tried it several times, avoiding getting killed too much by poison , it’s very difficult to keep control of what’s going on against a Boss who is tough enough to kill on it’s own, never mind the aggravating minions.
Do game programmers ever think that when players come home from work, college or whatever what they want to do is have fun? Sure others like harder the better and they are often the more vocal in forums. Me I believe in the old game makers protocol of the Four-F’s [and no they are not swear words. and can be found in game making instruction manuals/books] This quest was so long and eventually so tedious, I considered repainting my flat might be more fun.
But if some genius has a way to complete this quest without spending hours strapped to my chair I’d appreciate any worthwhile tips

Bish Bash in Ships of the Line

in Personal Story

My Ranger is over lvl 80 [having increased xp four times]. Came to the Story Line Quest called Ships of the Line where you use Zaitan’s ships to raid his main port. Got through the first stages without problems, but the ship is boarded by a load of ‘blobs’ and I mean a load. My character went another level and a half by just killing the never ending attack by these ‘blobs’.
I battled for an hour and 45 mins, left my char and the bot allies to carry on while I eat something and had a drink . Went back into action for another half hour and got so fed-up with the endless bish-bash, I just logged out. I’d kept Meri [whom I’m supposed to be helping, alive throughout] but this phase never seemed to want to end. Is there a BUG in this quest as there are many in most quests?
Such shame that a potentially great game is getting spolit by these sorts of problems.
Expect I’ll go back and try again when I have a day to spare to complete this quest, or maybe I’ll have to cancel my summer holiday and get my girlfriend to feed me while I continuously play and help Meri against the ‘Invasion of the Blobs’.
Whatever this characters cannot advance his story until this is resolved, have a problem with another 80 + 12 character who can’t get to the dungeon to tackle Zaitian. Any bright spark got any idea?

Final mission

I too am finding it difficult to get to where Zaitan is. Does anyone know the best route to take in getting to the storyline waypoint?? Looked at the map, it’s obvious without having the good fortune of like-minded players travelling there, there is a high difficulty rating. But at least if someone can suggest the best route I can keep giving it a try. At the moment it’s becoming boring and spoiling the game. Any help would be appreciated. I’m now the equivalent of lvl 88 as a Mesmer, which is fun so I’d like to at least finish the story-line.

Getting to the Cathedral of Silence

Any ideas as to best way to get to the Cathedral of Silence, I’m doing the Personal Story. Tried to get there from the nearest bases to the Island that houses the Cathedral, even tried using others to get me to the Coast and swim the channel, that failed several times. Advice would be good, thanks

How to fix Elementalists!!!

Sorry to say Elementalists needed some help. Weapon swapping like other classes would help, and armour that works at close quarters. I agree about the need for a shorter cool down for all abilities and attunements. Played spell casters in all sorts of games, the idea used in GW1 was good where you could have a secondary class, usually I chose priest so I could heal companions/allies, and myself of course.

Thank you Jeffery, turning off ‘fast-cast ground targeting’ worked a treat. Played that quest sequence without a hitch. Probably turn the ground targeting back now as it’s a quicker way of targeting, but a good tip to remember.

I’m Having the same targeting problem. I have “Fast cast ground targeting” enabled, tried using my mouse as pointer, had no luck with using that or the firing ‘button’ for the turret-canon. All I get is the screen UI telling me I cannot point at that targe in that direction, very annoying. Where else am I supposed to aim if not at the bone ship??? A proper targeting device would have been more useful [in my opinion] when using these sorts of weapons. Killed loads of Risen Dead on the cliffs, but I can’t hit The Blight with the turret-canon. about to throw the ‘towel-in’ and play something else less frustrating, hope you have another suggestion Mr Vaughn

Common flaw in MMO design thinking

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I like playing MMOs for the sheer size of the Worlds/Areas on offer, but a common flaw in the thinking of game designers and planners is that they think their game is always going to have loads of players to join together in groups for large/difficult battles.
The flaw is that players who join such games do not always stick with it, they get bored, don’t like the game. or their enthusiasm is short-lived as they move on to newer games.
It has been suggested that servers are amalgamated/consolidated, this was done for GW1 after a long period, it’s been done for SWtoR [which hasn’t really been out for that long] and there are other examples to be found. The joining together may have for at time increased player population, but hasn’t increased group playing. I’ve run kinship/ guilds/ fellowships and the fall-off rate for most of these is alarming, despite there being a core of enthusiasts.
This game, GW2, has so much potential but I’ve played a lot in the week and week-ends until quite late and have found myself alone many a time playing a group event or challenge event, if I’ve been lucky on occasions [when not in the peak population time] to have the casual grouping of about five of us.
The programmers of this game should reprogram so-called group events so that the difficulty, including the Boss’ hit-points, is changed according to the number of human players taking part or alternatively [in cases like the Hitachi Highlands] have more friendly Bots playing in support. An ‘’And….If……Or’’ piece of programming should do the trick.
If something is not done, I sadly forsee that this excellent game will decline a lot more rapidly than GW1, which many of us still play to this day.

[BUG] The battle of claw island?

in Personal Story

I reported the TREBUCHET problem on Claw Island as a bug, don’t think it’s been fixed though. I wouldn’t mind but I fought my my way through and completed the early parts of this story-line quest only to find the trebuchet ’won’t fire in the direction of the target’ ,ie. the Risen-dead Orr ship.
Ridiculously complicated sequence to fire the awkward thing anyway. Fired one for real once at some mediveal show, that was easier, A bit stupid making something that has no great sway on the whole game so difficult and bugged, come on Devs sort this out so we can get on with the game.
—or I suppose I could go back to Guild Wars 1 which was [sorry to say] a better format in many cases, though I do like some of the large scale ‘loosely’ grouped battles in this one and the underwater fights

Personal Story Difficulty Unacceptable

in Personal Story

ceitic.6198

As I have suggested elsewhere, because of the high difficulty in completing the storyline quests, the Devs should give us some Bot Heros that can actually fight as in the Guild Wars original, or at least a good healer.
Playing characters without good healing buffs must struggle all the time. About time ANET for all their good points gave credence to the complaints about the storyline quests and their imbalanced difficulty.
Games are supposed to be FUN not a labour of torment

The Order's mentor and the Story

in Personal Story

As far as I am concerned all the Orders Mentors are pretty useless in a real fight, I seem to end up being their ‘mentor’ and saving their lives. Usually we both lose because they are so bad in a tough fight. Bring back the Bots that we could select in the Guild Wars original so that a player could have at least the chance of finishing their storyline.
