lied how exactly? did they ever promise never to introduce any new tier gear after exotic? cause the only promise I know of is that content will not be gated by gear and no threadmill and while I dont like the increase in stats just like you it doesnt break any of those 2 promises!

The gear that they have recently added is still a step above the old gear. This means that my gear (only have a couple of pieces of exotics) is still not the best in game. They have stated they are adding more so the entire set will eventually be replaced. While the whole argument of what a gear treadmill is a little shakey it is still the signs of one.

The question we have to ask is, why put in better stats if it wasn’t for this purpose? I want to be wrong but I see no reason as to why they would even bother with an upgrade of stats on the new gear unless they wanted to create a treadmill.

The whole “it is the bridge the gap between exotic and legendary” doesn’t hold water, exotics were still as good as legendary and now adding the ascended gear all they’ve done is add a new tier while bumping legendaries up to the stats of the new gear. That’s not filling a gap, that’s creating a new step. There was no gap to fill.

The fact that there is an increase at all, worries me greatly.

The fact that the ascended gear has any increase at all is the problem! So all those players who gathered exotics or spent money on the trade post get what now? A pat on the back and Anet pointing us to Fractal and saying “there’s the better gear, go get it”?

They could have easily added infusion onto the existing gear if they wanted “progression” in these dungeons alone, but by putting any increase in the gear they have already put in the fear that the gear treadmill is beginning.

What do you have that says this won’t happen again? Their word? Because it doesn’t seem like they need to keep it anymore, why stop now?

Maybe it won’t happen, maybe it will. The fact is they have gone against the very thing they said they didn’t want in their game and that trust is broken, gone, out the window, probably never getting it back.

You can spin it anyways you want, that it is a minicule change, that it doesn’t change anything, that it is the same game and you may be right. But they’ve still lied and gone back on their word and that’s all people need to decide not to support them anymore.

We don’t need you or Anet to prove that it’s not happening because it already is! You need to prove to us that it won’t happen again and trust me that’s a lot harder when we’ve already been lied to once!

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

@OP While I understand as to why you want people in the group to have the necessary gear and it isn’t wrong to want players who meet this requirement, I shall say that personally I don’t share the same viewpoint.

If a person is friendly enough they can join my group. While success is what I want, I won’t alienate a player based on the gear they carry. I go into a dungeon to have fun.

I personally believe in bringing the player, not the gear, always have. If we don’t complete a dungeon then I chalk it down to us not working together hard enough. I have nothing against a party wanting x, y and z as at the end of the day it is their party and whatever they decide upon is their choice.

Would bringing players who have better gear increase my party’s success? Absolutely. But I personally find it more fun to beat encounters despite our gear differences. Where’s the fun in just steamrolling it with max gear eh?

I’ve beaten past encounters in past MMO’s despite people saying “you need this and that to win” simply so I can say “Do I really?”

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

Seriously OP, the forums are not the place for you to go to for any game if you’re not wanting to read the complaints and arguements made against it.

I’m not going to go on and say why I no longer play half as much, my complaint has been made clear, my stance firm. I’ve moved on until either something changes or something better comes along and I forget about this game.

Simply skipping certain titled threads is a good way to keep your idea of the game pure, but to ask people not to complain about the game is completely wrong, they have a right to express their displeasure. People posting on and on about it yeah, I admit it gets a bit annoying and people shouldn’t dwell on it but that’s just how it goes.

If you’re enjoying the game that’s all that matters. Why should others displeasure effect you personally? This is for Anet to take into consideration or ignore, don’t even worry about it.

I agree with everything the OP has pointed out, and I adore this game. I’ve always felt that the whole game should be centered around character growth, not gear growth. In the first Guild Wars the game was more centered around acquiring skills and customising your abilities. I loved that part of the game and I have no idea why they opt’d for set-in-stone skills from weapons for GW2.

Don’t like how stale combat gets when you can’t even experiment fully beyond the very limited utility skills, would rather the weapons (could even make them special weapons that you explore and unlock) just allowed you to learn a set amount of skills and customise them from the pool of skills already unlocked.

I don’t like how much they have gone back on what they originally said. I won’t demand they change it but I’ll not support them as much in the gemstore as I did in the past. A large part of my gem buying was for me wanting to give them my support, but now I don’t feel I want to anymore.

Looking at the number of posts and the lack of anyone from Anets side saying if they stick by what they done or will change it I’d say they pretty much doing what they want despite protest. I shall continue playing the game and enjoying it with friends but unlike before I won’t be supporting them even half as much with the gem store.

Shall look onwards at future content updates with a bit more knowledge that Anet will go back on what they originally promised, I’m used to companies doing this now.

Don’t like the sound of “ascended gear” it just sounds like a gear treadmill to me even if it turns out it isn’t. When I start hearing people shouting “LFM Full Ascended only” then I know it’s gone too far.

Can’t say I am all for these changes, it goes against a lot of what Anet said they wouldn’t do.

I really hope I am wrong.

From what I have read it all sounds like a gear treadmill to me. If that is what Anet intends I don’t want to be a part of it. I already have one treadmill I am having to run on, I don’t need a second.

Telling people to calm down is rather silly, let them get their complaints out. If it turns out to be a misunderstanding then it falls on them to say “oh…well alright then!”. I’m pretty sure Anet are big boys and girls now, they can handle angry people themselves.

Shall wait and see myself what this is all about, but I can fully understand why people are upset.

The poll isn’t very expressive of how I feel. I have no problem with them adding a tier of gear higher then exotic to give some progression between exotic and legendary items.

I do have a problem with artificially gating content with the agony stat. This game was supposed to be about skill, and now that is completely out the window.

It’s not a content gate though. If I’m understanding it right you’ll be able to do experience 100% of the new dungeon without the gear. It’s just that the more you play it the harder it gets which requires defense against Agony.

Pretty sure they said that at a certain point the encounters will become impossible to do with 0 infusion. In the end there is still a stop sign saying “you cannot do this unless you have that” which is in essence gating content.

We all assumed wrong however.

This is where we don’t see eye to eye, I think.

When I saw “a chance for a Halloween weapon” from a chest that costs money to open, I immediately assumed that the skins would be very rare. I spent $10 on gems (keys) thinking I probably wouldn’t get a weapon but it would certainly be nice if I did. My expectations were met.

This is not to say “haha I was right”. Some clarification would definitely have been nice. But I’m honestly surprised to see how optimistic some people were about their odds. Maybe it’s because of my experience with TF2 where the community very quickly calculated the drop rates from crates and realized that the most desirable items had a 1% chance to drop.

I think that, in general, spending money for “a chance” at getting something should be approached with a cynical, or at least cautious, viewpoint, rather than an enthusiastic buying spree and being disappointed when the gamble doesn’t pay off.

As a side note, I’ve seen people argue that since Halloween items are common as dirt in other games, they assumed it would be the same here. I can’t help but think, well, Guild Wars 2 was advertised through-and-through as not being like other games (no matter how cynical and sarcastic that thought may be).

Well I certainly didn’t spend too much on the keys, I got 5 and crossed my fingers and sure enough I didn’t get a thing, never been good at the RNG game. I just think this style of business is very below the standards of Arenanet. Fair enough you got tonics, boosters, gathering items etc from the old chests but they never really “changed” anything about you, they were just small little things that were convenient.

But with this people want their special skins and common sense is thrown out of the window. If these items were available in the trick or treat bags I seriously wouldn’t have kicked up much of a fuss. But because they require keys that are an incredibly low rate drop and can be bought in the gem store I can’t say I am very fond of the idea.

It’s a sleazy tactic and I honestly expected better of Arenanet. Oh well.

Not going to say I feel like I deserve the skins, I will however say that the way to obtain them is very “disrespectful” of the playerbase. I’ve never liked low RNG style ways of obtaining items, it is one of the reasons why I loathe what FFXIV does after you have beaten a boss and given a low chance to obtain a weapon you may not even have the correct class for.

In that case you must also hate legendaries and the very existence of random loot drops. They’re random with a low chance of getting what you want, so that’s disrespectful of the player base, right?

As a personal thing yes, I do hate legendaries and the fact the precursor is such a low drop, however this is different because of a few things. The first being that because it is a long term goal I am more forgiving of this, the legendaries do take a lot of gathering, hard work and to much my chagrin a lot of luck if you do not want to spend a great deal of gold. The second point being that I do not have to rely on the drops to come from a chest in which the keys are available from the gem store.

I would also like to add that when were were informed about legendaries we were given the truth, that it would require a lot work, it is a long term goal and a lot of luck would be required for the items. This is not so for the Halloween skins. We were told we were given a chance. Not a rare chance mind, but a chance. One would assume that with us having to buy the keys (or be lucky enough or have the foresight of saving a few) that this chance would be reasonably high or even moderate. We all assumed wrong however.

Had a lot of players known of this chance they simply wouldn’t have bothered or even wasted their keys. This is obviously an attempt to get people to put their money into the keys to try and get the desired skins. This to me is incredibly “disrespectful”.

I seriously wouldn’t have minded paying a set amount of gems for the item skin I wanted in the gem store. In the end they are cosmetic items and that is more or less what the gem store is for.

The argument has been made to me time and again “Why not just buy from other players from the TP?” and this would have been ideal for me had supply and demand not taken place and caused the Greatsaw (an item I very much would have enjoyed having the skin for) to go for 40-50g. Maybe I am not playing the game correctly but I don’t HAVE that kind of ingame currency to spend on such an item, so that is not a viable choice for me.

Am I demanding the item be placed on my lap? Not at all, in the end it is just an item skin. But it doesn’t mean I don’t dislike the way these items are obtained. I am very much enjoying this event and I like the costumes, the brawl, the book, the setting, I am having immense fun and it’s only the first act.

Shall wait and see what lies in store for the other acts, but this whole thing kinda puts a dampener on the event for me.

I’m not impressed that the weapon/armour skins will be out of my reach because I refuse to either spend a decent amount of money on gems for items I may or may not even receive (RNG has never been kind to me, I’m just that unlucky) or spend large amounts of gold because said items drop at a low rate that the supply will be low and the demand will be extraordinarily high.

Shan’t let it ruin the fun I will have for the event itself, but it would have been a lot more fun if said items were payable for a set amount of gems or obtained by reasonable means. In the end this money grabbing tactic is very low of Anet and it is very disrespectful of their fans. I expected far better from them.

Make some of the hammers bigger!

Hi, I am a Norn Warrior. Too long have I wielded small puny hammers that do not strike fear into my enemies hearts (and most importantly, strike a nice lump of metal/bone into said heart too!).

As you most likely know, bigger is obviously better and a Norn (and even some of those “weaker races”, pshawww) wielding a hammer 2 sizes too small threatens our legacy and our greatness!

So I ask can we please make some of the smaller hammers into bone shattering humongous hammers and not just small, weak and feeble hammers that could barely crush a skritts skull? Thank you.

(One of the biggest offenders of this appears to be the Godskull Crusher but I have seen other pathetically small hammers, not sure if this is a problem mainly for Norn character but they do seem a tad bit too small)

WvW night capping/whining/unbalance can be solved with a fairly easy fix.

in WvW

Posted by: clydey.4963

clydey.4963

A simpler solution would be to change the point distribution based on numbers. For example if said nightcappers were doing their wvw, if the other 2 servers have very low numbers of participants to reduce the amount of points given.

100 vs 14 vs 20 would net the 100 who captured everything a low point tally because they have nearly next to nothing resistance. While this doesn’t fully fix the problem of said server upgrading their keeps and towers to maximum it would stop them netting a large amount of points when noone is stopping them.

To those who say “well how is it fair when that’s the only time I get to play” you are still giving your server a huge advantage by controlling most of the maps while everyone is offline, they still have to take back those bases you just took and upgraded with little resistance. You’re still getting points, just nowhere near as many if you actually had people fighting against you. All this does is prevent you having a commanding lead with little to no effort.

While I agree that explorable dungeons should be a challenge and should cater to more coordinated style of play and certain setups I hope there will be something similar to dungeons that would be more “forgiving” in terms of teamplay.

As it stands now the story modes are just as much headache inducing as the explorables and apart from the experience of playing the dungeon as well as the story there isn’t much incentive to do it more than once, especially after the frequent changes. So those who cannot handle it for explorable mode (to get the perfect setup, coordinate using ventrilo/teamspeak, min/max traits, food and potions etc) you’re pretty much not given much of an alternative to something similar.

I hope the open world content will keep people busy for a while and it updates often, but I don’t think it would particularly hurt to give those who aren’t as up to the difficulty challenge a more friendly alternative way to do dungeons.

While I am very skeptical about the validity of such a claim I will try and view this from a point of view that you are indeed telling the truth. What kind of response are you seriously expecting from such a post? Your claim seems like a very veiled attempt to rile up the community in saying “Well my son is smart enough to do this so why aren’t you?”.

So while I commend your sons ability in leading and completing said dungeon at such a young age, I am not particularly fond of you posting this on a forum and expecting anything other than angering individuals with your arrogance.

So congratulations I suppose?
