I don’t know if this has been discussed yet, but it seems to me like there needs to be pre-arc, arc, and post-arc states to the LW.

  • What you did with Tower of Nightmares, placing Marjory and Kasmeer in Kessex Hills is an excellent example of a pre-arc state. I think that a cut scene explaining how they found out about the tower and why they decided to go there would have made a much better story. Foreshadowing and character development all rolled up into one.
  • Then comes the reveal of the tower (and I assume the follow up of the interior of the tower).
  • Post-arc state would be, for example, the tower in ruins, people(NPCs) that survived relocated to nearby towns, or rebuilding what was lost. Possibly add a garrison nearby that Queen Jennah ordered built to safeguard her people.

Adding something as a tip-of-the-hat to what happened in the LW arc to the world will help give a sense of the change that happened. It can be anything, ruins, new NPC chatter, a new zone, different enemies added to maps, changed events in a map, different friendly NPCs etc. The key being giving players a sense of agency or accomplishment every time they see the result of their (and others) actions.

@cobble

2. The name guild wars tends to lead to the thought of getting some guild mates together and head out to acheive something. The map does not realy allow this as the Zerg can cover the map in less than a min. So no it not guild wars it Zerg wars

3. The issue has never been addressed by simply removing the item did nothing to fix the problem. what about all the door hacks/wall hacks taking place ? still not fixed but when fract’s was found to have the issue it was fixed in zero time – clear that W3 means nothing to the game. Culling still a big problem.

4. No they are not fixing the classes – Necro still pretty dead class in the game. Thief can do more damage in a single hit using the dagger than 99% of 2hd damage can do at the end of a combo. No real cooldowns on their hits against every other class sitting with 5-30 second cooldowns. Any fixes made were purly to the benifit of sPvP.

5. Treadmills may not be the way to go… but no benifit for claiming and upgrading castles/keeps ? yea i can drop some abilities that guild learns over a huge time period rendering them relitivly ineffective. Why can we not get a warning of the tower being attacked with a general number in the area ?

6. refer to 2

7. JP are not any part of W3 in fact they barley make to PvE status they do nothing for W3 except put a drain on troops trying to enter the war. Although this is becoming less of an issue daily as less people are headed out to partake in W3 if JP gets removed then that would prob end W3 completely in a month.

8. Fix them already borderlands offer nothing now and are practically deserted since the removal

9. Still nothing gained so nobody will rely do it.

10. Camps still way too easy to take. I can basically solo a camp fully upgraded. A 5 man team can take a camp in less than 30 sec. Stupid practice and upgradeing the camp should make it worthwhile not just a cash sink for nothing.

11. point still holds fair.

contradictions.
Removing an item is not fixing it. hacks/cracks abuse still play a big part in the game and have not been addressed in months.

I did state in current maps. some paths take almost 5 min to complete while others take 40-50 sec. also the ease that people can get “behind the lines” to take supply camps/jump yaks is way to easy. there should be zones that are inaccesable intil you take out certain keeps/towers

I will attempt this one more time.

2.) Guild Wars is just a name for this game, what your perception of what that should involve in the game itself is just that; yours and only yours. You are entitled to your perception of what the game should be like, but that still does not change what it is.

3.) Removing the Orbs was a quick fix to prevent griefing. Yes culling is still a big problem and they released a patch to the culling system in an attempt to mitigate some of the issues, it in no way was a fix to the problem, it was an attempt to optimize the current system. As I said earlier this is a much more complex issue than you think, and to fix it properly takes time. There are only so many people in ANet that can fix these issues and they have to make decisions to prioritize some things over others. Yes they are working on WvW, is it the top priority right now? I don’t know. But you cannot say that these issues are not being addressed.

4.) Yes they are fixing the classes. They are fixing them incrementally, one small patch at a time. Then they gauge the results and tweak it again. It is getting fixed slowly over time, not in one big change that may break things further.

5.) How is this part of additional incentive to play WvW?

6.) See #2

7.) That is your opinion, I respectfully disagree, and fully agree to disagree about this issue.

8.) See #3. This is a very complex issue involving learning how the hacks on the orbs were implemented and possibly changing how the backend of server/client interaction works. It is a major change that needs time and manpower to fix.

9.) If you want to keep winning in WvW you need supply that is your gain/incentive.

10.) So? take it back with a 5 man team in less than 30 seconds.

11.) Uh, not if you use strategy to nullify that advantage.

Direct Contradictions:
1.) I did not say that it was fixed, I said that the hacking issue was addressed. It is a temporary fix, but would you rather they left the hacking in the game while they are fixing it?

2.) No, just no. What you are proposing will make gameplay stagnate. Getting behind enemy lines is a valid strategy. If you take that out what you get is everyone, and I mean everyone on the front lines. It would be several massive zergs fighting on the front line.

That’s it I am done, I am not responding to you on this issue anymore. If you can’t accept my arguments that’s fine, suffice to say I disagree with you.

Jedahs ask yourself one question: is a video game more important than your health?
This thread is useless, since the answer is rather obvious.

Tell that to everyone who smokes, drinks, plays dangerous sports, works in a hospital, cooks near an open fire, drives a car for leisure, goes scuba diving etc. etc.

GG making fun of it because its a video game because its popular to make fun of it on internet forums. But in the end, all those things I mentioned are a hazard to health and not important at all after if you step back and think about it. You know why the media has made it popular to make fun of people playing video games too much? Because A LOT of people do it and its newsworthy.

The thing is, this problem CAN BE SOLVED, you guys are all so fatalistic, like the only way to solve a problem is to quit and give up and be a mundane, common, nobody. Solve the problem. What if…imagine this guys….what if I could play 2 hours a day and still accomplish what I accomplish in 10 hours. And the results stayed to allow us to rest.

What if that happened? Imagine! It can be changed!

Whatever, I’m just helping myself and my server. And from all the private messages I am receiving, it looks like I am speaking out for most of the leaders in top tier servers.

Please listen to what you are saying: “… if I could play 2 hours a day and still accomplish what I accomplish in 10 hours”.

If that happened then everyone, on all three servers would learn from your example and would render your point moot. People would still be playing 8-10 hours a day just to keep up with the other servers even if you play smarter.

Also, GW2 is a game, if a game is directly affecting your performance in real life there is an issue that needs to be solved. Use some of that management skill to make a decision, and make it fast before you burn out.

LOL sounds more like an addiction than anything else

Yip WvWvW is dead and will just get worse until Feb’s meant to be fix it all patch. So if you have another 2 months of destroying yourself left in you then carry on mate

Some people will return after the patch in FEB but unless it addresses all the issues for W3 then the game will be shelved by 90% of the W3 players and they will just completely ignore the game.

I said it at around 6 weeks that people will hang around for roughly 3 months for developers to fix main problems in a game if they dont then people will leave en mass. Exactally what has happened to GW2.

problems :
1. 3 same maps for boarder lands – plain lazy
2. Maps are at least 10x too small and lead to zergs rather than guild wars
3. Way too many bugs/hacks not addressed
4. refusal to balance classes
5. no incentive for W3
6. Guilds mean nothing in W3
7. Jumping puzzles in W3 (for what it has nothing to do with it just if you can press a space bar)
8. No orbs/relics anymore
9. No incentive for escorting Yaks – a critical part of the game
10. Supply camps way too easy to take and some supply routes distances are madness on the current maps.
11. EB completely dominated by the team holding SM castle (maps way too small )

There have been many more issues placed on the forums but I just feel that those seem to be the more recuring ones. If Anet had even mad an attempt to address any of those issues the game would not be falling as fast as it is but their opinion was sPvP was more important…… we will see after Feb if you still even have a game.

<sigh> alright I’ll bite.
1.) Yeah the three BL maps being the same is boring, but it’s guaranteed to be balanced. Whether it’s because of laziness or not I don’t know.
2.) Umm, how are wars with guilds not a zerg vs zerg situation? But yeah a bigger EB map would be nice.
3.) Really? How about disabling Orbs because of Orb hacking, or banning players who fly-hack? This is a much bigger issue than you seem to realize, there is no simple fix to these issues, it takes time to fix hacking and bugs properly.
4.) See patch notes, all classes get small incremental fixes, not huge nerf bats.
5.) So you want a treadmill for W3? Personally the battles themselves are exciting, nothing more fun than facing down a zerg and getting away unscathed (or just alive for that matter).
6.) I don’t know what you mean here. Guilds are just meant as a way to organize groups of players.
7.) Ok, so jumping puzzles are not your cup of tea, I happen to love them, deal with it.
8.) See my answer to #3 about orb hacking.
9.) Only if you don’t want supply at castles or keeps (you do trust me).
10.) Supply camps are also worth the least points, see balance is achieved. So do you want completely protected routes for the dolyaks? Some of those weird long routes make for the most interesting battles.
11.) True, but there are strategies to counter the SM domination.

Direct Contradictions:
1.) Complaining that hacking issues are not being addressed, but complaining that Orbs were taken out due to hacking issues.
2.) Dolyak paths are too long, but the map isn’t big enough, so if we increase the map size, the dolyak paths get even longer?

So a single person’s snarky remark justifies your hate, Ooooook?

Though I’ll agree with you the lag issue is unbearable. I first noticed this last night in FotM. It was a horrible experience on multiple levels but, it just wasn’t right. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. Then I noticed the audio wasn’t working either. If I stopped for a what seemed like 15 seconds, all of a sudden the environmental sounds caught up to me and began playing. Everything is lagging quite badly.

This morning on EB, people weren’t rendering much at all. A floating Commander pin walked right passed me and just kept going. Never rendering the character at all. This wasn’t even in combat. Just walking about the outside of a keep.

<sigh> they broke it again…

I hate the culling issues as much as anyone, but it must be noted that this latest patch is a temporary fix. I’m sure that ANet is tweaking the algorithms used to try and make the best of a bad situation. At least they are trying something rather than doing nothing until the WvW patch comes out.

Also omelets and broken eggs.

But I want to invite four friends?

Thank you everyone for the kind offers (and PMs) to share invite keys. I really do appreciate the offers. I can’t in good conscience accept them, they are yours even if all of your friends are already playing Guild Wars 2.

I also can’t accept them on the basis of account security. Giving a stranger, even a very kind one, a friend’s email address is, in my eyes, a severe privacy and security concern. As an example, I don’t know (nor can I verify) if any of the offers are being extended by gold sellers in an effort to (pre)hack a potential new account. Nor can any of you verify that I am not a gold seller trying to get a three day access key to spam more messages in LA.

So thank you for the offers but I must humbly decline.

PS: I love this community, you guys are awesome.

Choose the three you like the most.

lol, good one.

Ask someone whose friends are already in GW2 for help.

I already have. I’m very picky about who I friend in game so I don’t have a very large pool of friends in GW2 to ask.

Also I have already been asked if I have extra invites from some of the people I know.

EDIT:

I could give you one of my invites if you want

Thank you for your kind offer. But please don’t take this the wrong way; I don’t know you. I would need to give you my friends email address and that is simply not something that I am comfortable with. Perhaps if I knew you IRL, but not as a (very kind) offer on a forum.

cobblestone.6015

I’m all for these sorts of trial weekends – they may bring new players to the game – but only if they are run properly. In this particular case I think Anet has failed miserably. Putting a free trial weekend on at the same time as a ONE OFF world event is both stupid and irresponsible. What happens if I was to try and log in and was unable to because of the influx of trial accounts… I miss out on a one time event for someone who may never buy the game.

Anet have really put little thought into the timing of this trial weekend, and should expect a massive backlash if people who have already paid for the game cant access it.

It would be nice for an Anet rep to clarify what led them to putting these two events on at the same time.

Apart from the little rant I’m all for free trials… just not when one-off events are on.

I don’t know about you or anyone else, but I have been playing GW2 since BWE2 and the only time I wasn’t able to log in was when there was a bug in the system. Let me tell you that ANet got their people on those bugs fast.

You make it sound like there is no way to play if there are too many people on a single server. Do you not know about overflow servers? You are still able to play the game while you queue up for your home server.

Remove Orange Swords and Other Propositions

in WvW

Posted by: cobblestone.6015

cobblestone.6015

No, removing Orange Swords will not disperse zergs. There will be a couple of people who will watch the map for flipped keeps/killed dolyacks and announce it in map chat. Surprise, user generated orange swords.

It may reduce the largest of the zergs into two smaller groups, but there will still be zergs.

Siege Weapon Idea - Barricade

in WvW

Posted by: cobblestone.6015

cobblestone.6015

Hmm, for defensive purposes it could be balanced, but what happens if you use it for offense? Like building corridors of walls (like trenches), or hemming Golems into a box, or blocking Balista weapon fire?

Balista weapon blocking would be especially bad, even if the wall could only take one hit. The Balista cooldown would allow you to advance without taking damage. Build, block, advance, repeat. Admittedly this (probably) won’t affect trebs catapults, or arrow carts, but you get the idea.

This is just off the top of my head, anyone else?

I think it takes more time to build a siege then a ballista shot. IIRC when you first put a blueprint down the structure has really low health so it would be really simple to put it out. And think about the supply cost, even if it costs only 20 supplies thats 2 peoples worth. You would quickly run out of supply for just blocking a ballista shot.

Ok, going with your example of 20 supply each it would still be possible to reduce the damage from the ballista dramatically. Get a group of twelve, divide into two group and stagger three barriers each up to the ballista. Double the blueprint targets, double the recharge time, though for 120 supply you could build a couple of catapults or a treb, so take this with a grain of salt.

It’s possible you are right, I have no idea the durability of the wall itself and whether or not the supply cost would be worth the blocked shot(s). My point was that the versatility of a character place-able wall is immense. There will be unintended consequences as people learn to use the barricade offensively instead of defensively.

As an aside I am not against your idea, I do however urge caution.

Edit: Grammar error.
