I am personally already sick of having to stare at a bobble-head after five minutes. It’s already affecting game play and it’s annoying enough I refuse to play. It would have been fine if camping out fixed it. But it doesn’t.
I can’t say that I know what it’s like to re-learn how to play MMO’s after losing a limb but I can attest to learning how to play them all over again after losing most of your sight. (I had a massive ischemic stroke that left me nearly blind for the first year of recovery.) The razer naga mouse and the razer pro gaming headset saved my gaming career. You know……….. we should get together and write the razer team and maybe suggest that they make a few products JUST for folks with disabilities to help them keep gaming. Without their products I doubt I would have continued.
The game is almost done updating and I’ll be able to start playing in the next hour it looks like. Though I’ve been warned to choose my server carefully so I’ve come here for a bit of help in doing that.
I love to Role play – probably more than anything else.
With that in mind…. what is the most active server known for RP? I saw something on a different website saying Tarnished Coast (I saw a few events being hosted by different guilds.)
I’m in the US (Central time…. but I typically run the hours of a Vampire.)

Just as an update it’s taken (With a 1.5MB DSL connection.. 185 KB/sec download rate) 6 hours to download approximately 31,000 out of the 84,000ish files. I can ‘estimate’ that it will take about 12 more hours to finish the download…. if, all of the remaining files were approximately as big as the 31,000 I’ve already downloaded. (Which, they probably aren’t… so I may as well turn this into betting game on Facebook as to how long it will take because the next guy’s bet is as good as mine.)

My suggestion is precisely as the title implies. I suggest that a: “Estimated Time Remaining” feature be put onto the download launcher.
For people with really fast internet (10MB+ connection) download time may not be a real issue. Generally they can expect an entire game to take about 2 hours to download. Go watch a movie or two or go hang out in town for a while and it will be done.
People with slow internet connections (1.5 MB or slower for example) dread having to download anything. Just patching the game can take -DAYS-. ‘Estimated Time Remaining’ helps me to determine whether or not I should bother letting the patcher run during hours that I could be doing something else… or if it’s going to take so long that I should only run it when I sleep because let’s face it – it’s going to take days to complete.
This launcher is absolutely horrible in terms of just that. I was hoping that I could at least estimate the remaining time myself… no. Not only does the launcher not tell you how many gigs/MB of information are -left- to download but the percentage completed is not the percentage of data that you have downloaded but rather the percentage of files that you have downloaded.
That doesn’t tell the player anything. They may only have 1,000 files left but if those 1,000 files are going to take eight hours, big deal.
It’s a little off-putting as a new player to not be able to tell how long this mega-patch is going to take. I can’t find any information on how many gigs/MB’s of information there has been in patches/updates since the retail disc release so there’s absolutely no way for me to judge my time remaining. Some times it only takes two minutes to download 2%….. other times it takes close to an hour. Frustrating and very off-putting.
lol @ Niea. — forums are always a turn off when the trolls rear their ugly heads. But until this download finishes (Curse you slow connection.) that’s all I’m left with to gather feedback.

This post is inspiring me already….. not.
When GW1 first launched… click to move was the default. Maybe there was an option to turn it off that I was never made aware of but in order to move it required all mouse work. ASDWEQ didn’t work. (Or maybe it was changed later on in the game.) I can’t be sure. I quit after about 2 months.
Thanks for being so friendly though Joe. I would find a troll in the first 10 minutes of my time here. If anyone else has something constructive to say, please do.

I’m currently patching the game after a disc install and after reading over the forums I thought that I would get more feedback from the player base here that came before me. I’m TOTALLY new to Guild Wars 2 – I haven’t touched Guild Wars 1 in…well, years. I hated the click to move everywhere feature in GW1, which is one of the main reasons why I stopped playing it. I thought, though – that I would give GW2 a chance.
What are some of the things that you think I as a new player will really look forward to? (I enjoy challenges, PvE content, achievements, Role Play, great friends and lore most.)
What are some of the things that you think are a turn-off to most new players? There’s always a rainy cloud somewhere else in the world – even on a bright and sunny day in Chicago.
I’d like to hear from the players what they think is great about this game and why I should definitely play it. Looks like I’m going to be patching for several more hours. (Are there servers? If so, which server do you suggest?) Are you a guild recruiting looking for more people? Why should I join? Give me all of the feedback, all of the things!!

Yeah I just noticed that Edge – I was timing the percentages since my download rate is staying at a constant yet the percent download time was not staying consistent I realized that the percent completed was not the percentage of data downloaded but the percentage of files successfully downloaded. (14-15% only took 4 minutes where as 15-16 percent took 15 minutes due to larger files but my download rate remained consistent.)
That’s even more frustrating that I can’t gauge an estimated time remaining on my own. — I am patching from an otherwise completed install from the retail disc.
I suppose I should put in a suggestion to include an ‘estimated time remaining’ feature on the launcher for new/future players. It’s nice to be able to know that you can listen to music and expect the download to complete in two hours… or if you should do something else with your waking hours and run it while you sleep because it will take 11 hours.
As it stands – at 17% of the files downloaded averaging at 10 minutes per 1,000 files it will take about 11 hours to finish. Though if the rest of the files only take let’s say.. one minute per thousand files (Small files) it will only take just over an hour.) So, here’s to betting on how long it’ll take lol

Excited to start playing the game but I was a little disappointed that there isn’t an ‘estimated time remaining’. I was also disappointed in that the launcher doesn’t tell you how many gigs of information are remaining it only tells you how many files are remaining.
Can anyone tell me how many gigs of information/MB’s of information there is total to be downloaded? (Given that I just installed the game today.)
I have a slow connection and it’s only 10% done (771 MB downloaded.) I wanted to try and estimate how long the download would take but that would require me knowing how many MB there are remaining.
Any insight?
