D/D is effective when your play style consists of frequent stealthing and short bursts of attacks. Trait structure is key for that. I use a long-reach + stealth_on_steal + blind_on_stealth set that really freaks enemies out when I steal. From there I try to crit, get a few hits in, and then it’s stealth again. Throw in a thief trap just to irritate people, and it’s quite amusing and effective.
Cantha was fun and challenging, and with the new engine, I’m sure it would be simply awesome.
As far as cultural considerations, I support that to a point. No one wants to trample rough-shod over cultural elements; however, you can’t un-ring the Canthan bell: it’s an integral part of the Guild Wars universe and should remain as fertile ground for the creative excellence shown by the developers thus far.
The story and the experience of the game play should be the primary focus. There are always going to be purists of some sort that seem to not be able to remember that this is a game and not a treatise on the complexities of cultural identity and interaction.
