Nearly all classes can be good for dps depending on the situation. Out of my experience I have found Necro to be fun and capable at most things. They are self sustaining and not helpful for dungeons in comparison to other classes however they outshine nearly all when working solo. They are powerful in both PvE and PvP with the exception of dungeons. They can deal out tons of conditions and can be serious tanks. They constantly deal out decent damage and often max at 10k hits in dungeons (dps is not why they are not good in dungeons). Playing a necro requires thick skin to block out the haters and deal with constant shunning. The best answer to this question is that it is highly dependent on the circumstances. These circumstances change so just choose your favorite and most comfortable profession. Consider all classes and disregard elitism.
