It does work, but the range is shorter than you’d expect (it used to be a lot farther). You’re right that you can’t use it to initiate combat. I generally move in close, spawn the clone, immediately swap to root the target, then open up with #2.
I feel your pain. I want to love the mesmer, but it continues to frustrate me. As others have said, the Prometheus videos are great, but around level 30-ish, it stopped being as effective for me. Kill was painfully slow. I saw other mesmers chewing up mobs with dual swords, but that playstyle was too twitchy for me.
Since the latest Greatsword buffs, I’ve been running GS/staff, staying in GS most of the time. It’s been very effective, although I’m only 50 now, so that could change again.
Apparently, people standing on her spot will keep her from spawning. As crowded as that area is, it happens a lot.
And now the griefers have figured it out so some of them are blocking the spawn points on purpose. :/
I’d just like a way to hide them. When I’m running around LA looking for something, the blue shapes cover everything else.
Problem is that so many people have posted builds using gw2skills.net that I’d like to look at, but can’t.
Yep, I’m having GW1 flashbacks. My mesmer was painful to play in normal PvE until the eventual buff, so I created a warrior to farm the money needed for my armor since PvE was painful.
I think you’re probably right. I played a mesmer from day one in GW1, and struggled for a long time. However, they eventually buffed us (although I was sad when the heros became so much better at interrupting than us humans). I’m going to bide my time with my mes and hope for the best.
Great stuff! I’ve been getting frustrated with my mesmer of late, and I now see I’m relying too much on the scepter. I always liked the staff better, but I was using it on mobs instead of my self/clones. Can’t wait to try these tips!
