Hmm… Any anti-viruses installed? Could be something related to malware or rogues.

Test your hard drive for bad sectors, uninstall GW2 completely and then do a reinstall.

Make a test login account in Windows and try to install it from there.

I never denied breaking the EULA. I’m just another voice to express how ridiculous some things are in this game. It’s a lot easier for companies to make the terms long after you’ve already given them your money.

We’ve already talked about the EULA and quite frankly, it’s BS but you all already know that.

No way. Going to a friends house demands that I actually represent myself as a pleasant human being and I would never offend someone especially in their own house. In GW2, I’m just a thief named Arwald who enjoyed taunting his downed foes.

Of course I agree but when gamers trash-talk, it’s not always for the purpose of offending but to only liven up the experience and thrills of competition. We shouldn’t be overtly rude to our fellow players but we shouldn’t be so unforgiving either.

Which is obviously the lesson to learn here. This system basically discourages a good chunk of the players to ignore chat altogether but if it saves a player from having his/her feelings hurt, then its worth it. I’m surprised these forums have allowed this lively discussion to happen.

The trash talkers are the ones who lose out here because they are the ones who get banned and grouped into the same category as fraudsters and cheaters. Anyone with the emotional maturity of a toddler can click on a report button and POOF!! No GW2 for 3 days, as if A-Net decided to be our parents.

And that’s probably another reason why people don’t use the chats anymore.

Everyone’s too scared to use chat now because they either know people who have been banned/suspended for something silly or have been punished themselves.

So what the heck is the purpose of the swearing filter then??

It sounds like you were picked on as a child, Rajani. And I’m genuinely sorry about that. But that doesn’t mean everyone else who’s got some tough skin should have to pay for it.

You’re a smart person, right? You like playing videogames??

Then you should understand that playing in intense and very fun matches in teams and groups can be a sheer amount of fun. As a result of being so absorbed in a game that you are desperately trying to win is sometimes a bit distressing. So for players who overly express themselves in a manner of mild trash talk to THE OPPOSING TEAM is suspension worthy? I didn’t even say anything to offend these players outside the game by attacking his/her ethnicity/race/religion or whatever. It’s called trash-talk and it’s been part of the online-gaming culture since the beginning and it’s probably not going anywhere anytime soon.

But Hey! I’m guilty, right? I accept these charges but I still fail to see how these draconian rules encourage a fun gaming environment. It only discourages people from investing real passion into a game they’re playing.

Just take notice… I had 40 extra bucks laying around and I was planning on purchasing my first set of gem stones. That probably won’t be happening anymore. It’s just 40 bucks, I know… But just think of the possibilities, my friends.

You’re right but that’s the problem. You can argue that the EULA is very clear and simple but I’d say it’s a little vague so if you’re going to throw the book at people like that, then finding offenders must be the easiest thing to do because “swearing” can come in many forms and several things said in online games can be deemed offensive BY ANYONE… Maybe the EULA should just state “We are dictators so watch your back cause we’ll ban you for anything if it’s offensive”

I just received a 70-hour ban for language because I was mildly taunting and trash-talking downed foes in sPVP pubs. Now I just want to say that I GET IT! I understand why I was banned and why A-Net has zero tolerance for what they might deem as bad-behavior; however, A-Net should probably show some respect for their paying customers, including mild offenders (obviously not cheaters), a warning before issuing the banhammer. From my observation of how “griefers” are reprimanded in GW2 and in the forums, pretty excessive actions by the moderators and game masters..

A-Net, I was really diggin’ your game until now. Maybe I’ll come back to play your game again after my ban session or maybe I won’t ever come back at all. Maybe I’ll go play Planetside 2 or Rift in the meantime.. These games are far from perfect and probably not as much fun as yours but their developers and community can acknowledge that a safe and miniscule amount of trash talking is part of the online match experience as it has always been.

Also, good luck trying to make this game as an e-sports landmark. Maybe you’ll throw away all your resources at it and fail by the time Blizzard’s next MMO comes out or maybe you’ll come around and show a little more respect for those who genuinely love your game, even though they have a little bit of a potty mouth.
