Yeah I agree with the people above who say that weapon choice in this game is really a matter of preference. Just find the one that works right for you! I usually swap around weapons a handful of times in the first 10 levels until I find the combination I like.

Right now I’m levelling a scepter/torch guardian with staff as my second weapon. I absolutely love it! After you get settled into scepter/torch it’s a very high damage and face paced, fun to play weapon set. It is, however, useless for events, which is where the staff comes in, dealing decent damage to five foes at once and having some neat support skills that really make a difference in big events. The swiftness symbol on the staff is also brilliant for exploring and getting those POIs in mob filled locations or getting hard jumps in vistas, pair it up with aegis and strong healing abilities and you’re an exploring machine.

That being said, from the limited amount of PvP I’ve done as a scepter/torch staff guardian, it’s a bit lacklustre. I HAVE killed players using the scepter and it wasn’t hard, but there’s no doubt it’s better for PvE.
