From my perspective the damage spikes from power crit builds are the initial cause (tier 3-4 on EU, 75% of the roamers in 1-on-1 and in random groups use such builds).

If I mix a power crit spec with condi cleanse and some extra vita I would lose most fights against builds that max power crits. As a consequence, I would have to sacrifice condi cleanse and vita in favor of also maxing my crit damage to come to par in such a crit-fest duel. Obviously, duels against condi builds would then turn out to be a big pain.

If I run a condi build I need to put a lot into vita/toughness, running at least partially dire, to stand against such a power crit spec as long as it takes to build up my condi set upon my opponent and thus cause a significant DoT. Consequently, because of my lack of power, duels against diamond skin eles and other builds with a lot of anti-condi mechanics should . . . yea . . . actually be skipped.

As most of us know, conditions are coming more in to play in WVW. We all remember the old days of zerker this and zerker that where physical damage mattered most in most scenarios.

Whats wrong with conditions coming more into play? Why make boons work against condies and let the old days of zerker this and zerker that return?

7. Condition cleanse should also work against power crits because condition cleanse is useless against power. E. g. if i use a cleanse and there are no conditions I get a protection for the next crit.

Mountain vs. Snake - a melee role play gone?

My first thought was Sir Gregor Clegane vs. Prince Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. There might be other duells that come to your mind as well were pure force met agility in close combat. But after the last patch I feel this kind of duell is almost lost in GW2.

Fighting a stun Warrior one-on-one in WvW roaming with Death blossom and dodges was my favorite match-up in WvW-roaming by far. (Me as a condi thief, with as few stealth and pistol as possible. Not the true meta but actually fun, hehe.)

See that animation of a hammer swing or bulls charge?
A: react in a second with a dodge and keep moving
B: get stun chained and eat the 100 blades
C: use a precious stun break and continue with A or B

If you had run a sword thief out there you might feel quite similar?

So from the action role play perspective: What class/build is left to play a melee that relies on agility?

Not only against a stun warrior of course but in general. Close combat condi trap Ranger? DD Ele?

PS: I would have totally agreed with another nerf for the thiefs acro trait line. But its the combination of several nerfs that now have truly destroyed builds that imo were a key element for the action role play content: a melee that relies on agility

Open field battle for one single camp (RS+AR)

First, thanks to Riverside and Augury Rock (EU tier 3) for this epic 4-hour battle yesterday from 1 pm to 5 pm for that one single camp on the Augury Rock home map south of the bay (Monday 30.03.). It was random small scale, sometimes 4 vs. 10, sometimes it was the other way round. The camp has been flipped several times. Sometimes siege weapons have been build. Sometimes I logged out before I got stomped because of frustration (Sorry, by the way! But doesn’t a rage quit shows that it was intense to the max?)

I would really like to enjoy more of these open field small scale battles were randoms just join at will and have a cup of fun.

I would like to know if you are also interested? What were your greatest small scale encounters? And what are your ideas to improve WvW in this direction.

I could imagine that it would be helpful if keeps and towers not only get supplies by dolyaks but also by just have that camp under possession. Consequently, the amount of supply a Dolyak delivers would have to be reduced.

Correct! Good summary but no one ever said it would be easy to win WvW.

If my keep has scouts, upgrades, def siege, a port, 1.700 suppy and a zerg on the map that arrives within a minute to defend, and your keep has none of that, which keep will be attacked by the third server?

Answer is: yours

So I partially agree: Defense is very important, but one should carefully choose which objects are worth do be defended.

How do you show that you enjoyed the fight?

Hey Guys,

i enjoy our WvW so much! Because each encounter is totally unique, compared to the last one or any others before, be it as part of a zerg or when you are roaming alone.

I generally like to roam, more than zerging, because i am not participating in the TS. And thus, from time to time i undergo draws, be it at one-on-ones or one-on-XY trying to kill a Dolyak for example.

Before i leave a hopelessly drawn battle i would very much like to leave a note for my opponent(s): that the fight was fun for me and that i admire their fighting style i couldnt overcome at last! So what are my options?

Just some recent examples of mine:

Yesterday i (Riverside) fought a Guardian (Drakkar Lake) at his north camp, i enjoyed the fight but when it became clear that it would be a neverending draw i just ran away, he then sent me an „invitation“. Should i ve accepted it? (i declined)

After this i approached a Drakkar-Lake thief near the western Drakkar tower and struggled with him for like ten minutes. After killing a Dolyak and the sentry at the flag this one thief managed to down me before i could capture the flag (just for fun, hehe). He did not stomp me, but took some distance and bowed, i decided not to revive myself but instead take my own death and thus give him the WvW-reward and loot-bag he deserved . . . at least.

I really would have made these players know that it was a pleasure for me!

So how can i tell my foes that it was a pleasure to fight against them?

What if i am already downed? (thus i cannot bow)

What if there are multiple foes and i fear to be killed if i just stand still and bow myself?

What if we go zerg vs. zerg and i want to express my recognition to the hostile zerg?

I would really like to know how you guys are handling this!

Btw: What do you think about if ArenaNet would implement a fixed chat-message (to avoid any insults) that we can send to our opponents on a particular chat-channel, like „This fight streches me to the limit, thank you.“ It really annoys me not to be able to communicate with the other two worlds at all.

PS: my self-introduction: i mostly like to roam because i am not participating in TS, i started with Guardian, then switched to Warrior, actually i am trying Thief with a somehow dodge+evade+condition build.
