Thieves are not limited to daggers and running around IMO.
If you had asked me 2 months ago if I would switch to S/P and the more “stationary” mindset I would call you crazy. Now I’m all about S/P, crit, crit damage, power, haste, and I’m loving it
Self healing keeps me up and running (Malice, Assassins Reward and Omnomberry Pies (nomnom)), black powder is sweet for the tougher encounters. I use Ambush/Thieves Guild as often as I can. My build gives plenty of extra damage here and there (Sundering Strikes, Executioner, first strikes, fluid strikes) Here is a link to my build: http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckmMMMMz9aax0x0ooaqMsa8kir7kiG7kij7070M7kGf70V
The first week or so with S/P i kept shadow refuge on my skillbar as an escape option incase things got too tough, but I switched it for haste
She is as lethal as she’s hawt!
T3 Chest, duelist pants, whispers boots and prowler gloves.
Dyes I use are Midnight Ice, Celestial, Brick and Ancient Gold (Iron for the dagger color on the boots)
@Kindread
:D I see now that in my rush to finish that post before my workday was over somehow left out the “braggy part” about critical haste and sigil of rage.
Haste is alot of fun and I would happily recommend others to try it. It adds another dimension to your ‘repertoire’ rather than just quirking power up another 100 or my health up another 1000. I feel like I have plenty of everything else, so why not have haste proc every other fight? plus when using Signet of Malice it heals for quite abit too
Been playing Thief for 3 months now and just recently switched from D/D (hybrid crit/power/condition damage build) which gets the job done, but got abit bored with the old “death blossom-heartseeker” routine and wanted to try something new.
I always thought of S/P as an alternative to my 2nd weapon set (P/P) to be used in areas where death blossom would send me screaming off a cliff or something =P I had been using it quite alot when my Thief was lower level but imagined it would not be that great for higher level zones considering being on the move is the best way to avoid damage altogether.
Started out with an experiment with Critical Haste + Superior Rune of Rage that led me to focus on S/P full time. Sure, haste may not always proc when desired. Sometimes I get knocked over, dazed, or it procs when the monster is nearly dead. Other sigils can enhance my damage further and thus give a more reliable source of extra damage.
Things are trickier when I encounter caster/ranged monsters, but otherwise I feel pretty bad kitten when I can lure monsters into my black-powder zone of death muahahaha >=)
Something I recently started doing is using Ambush (I now also have the trait that reduces the cooldown to 28s) I always have atleast one thief assissting me (sometimes 3) The damage these guys do is pretty decent, but what I enjoy even more is how they also acts as decoys. It helps quite alot when monsters waste their highest damage attacks on the summoned thief instead of lil’ old me =)
Would be cool if there was a ‘weight class’ between the medium curvy look and the thin (barbie) look (the 2nd and 3rd option in char creation)
A human female thief looks abit puny with the skinny option imo, and perhaps abit too strong with the medium one. The skinny option would work well with Elementalist and Mesmer, but for a Ranger or Thief I feel they should have slightly more meat on their bones (in my crazy world atleast lol)

I second that! I have a level 80 and a level 54 I would like to tweak body type and height on
In general would be nice to have the option to change things around, even if the reason is being bored with the current looks

I made a Guardian, levelling up to 25ish before I started thinking: “Ok, I should have gone for the slightly more tanned skin option and a different hairstyle”
Skin tone and hairstyle can look great on the creation-screen but feel different out in the big world, with different armor/clothing etc.
One can be sure that Asuran Football will be nicknamed “Succer” by the nobles. There will be a Sylvari variant where u carry the ball with ur hands called “Football”
I really enjoy this build. Stealth removes conditions and heals over time. Poison also heals me. I switch to pistols and use the vital shot while stealthed to deal damage and add several bleeds to my main target. This build works very well for both AoE and single targets.
Having something to reach for is not a bad thing. When I was level 32 I was soooo looking forward to level 35 and getting rare weapons and armors, then the milestone level 40. At level 55 I was soooo looking forward to level 60.
I was abit surprised I would be able to obtain level 80 exotic armors and weapons so quick (1-2gold on TP). I wouldn’t mind working abit to upgrade from rare to exotic through dungeons or farming alot of karma points. Not saying it should take months to obtain one piece, nor do I suggest that new tiers of improved gear would have to be added on every 6 months, but having nearly max’ed out gear less than a week after hitting 80 is abit too easy imo.
Perhaps there will be legendary armors one day? Legendary quality is already in the game so I cannot see why it could not include more than just weapons sometime in the future =)
Sure there is no monthly fee to play this game, but as many other MMOs you have the option to buy skins/dyes etc with rl cash so it is not quite true that there is no need to keep players post 80. The longer someone plays this game the higher chance is that they will spend more cash on it =)
That being said, I love this game and I will play it for quite awhile still. I still have more classes to play, alternate storylines to try.
I currently have to choose between stealth removing a condition or giving me regeneration. It depends on what type of NPC’s I’m fighting. Destroyers leave a very nasty poison or burning effect that lasts awhile.
I might spec 0/0/30/0/20 at level 60 instead of the 0/10/20/0/20 and then place more into Critical Strikes or Trickery from 60-80

One of the big pro’s of condition/pistols the way I see it is that the 1st skill in pistol stacks bleed without using initiative
I mainly use D/D with my condition damage build, but I also use pistols quite alot, depending on the situation. Mostly at single targets, but I think it is fun to switch during combat (I have a sigil on one dagger and one pistol that deals poison damage first attack after switching)
Your first combat skill with pistol in main hand stacks bleed, and if you are stealthed when u use this skill u do quite abit of damage and stack many bleeds. Sometimes I go in with daggers first, use the fifth combat skill there to get stealth (that or u could use blinding powder/shadow refuge) then I switch to pistol, get poison on next attack as well as doing alot of damage with the stealth attack. Stealth gives me regeneration and I get heals when using poisons so I have quite abit self healing going on
I’m currently level 58, aiming for this at 60:

This build offers alot of survivability. Sometimes I switch the Assassins Signet with Shadow Refuge (Stealth and healing) for even more survivability. Try to get as much condition damage as you can from gear, good amounts of vitality, and decent amounts of power
