Personal Story and lots of deaths...

I noticed a recurring theme here. Would GW2 devs pls reveal whether or not the PS missions involve a random set-up. I did The Defense of Fort Trinity (sic)one time and found mobs everywhere and respawning Knights by the half-dozen. After considerable “fail” after 40 minutes I decided that my attitude toward the quest was as much the problem as the NPCs. When I came back to do it one day later, none of these things occurred to the same degree. I took the same path, killed a mob mentioned in one of the walkthrough spoilers and in about 10 minutes the quest was done. If that is not buggy (unless there is a randomness to the mob spawns and difficulty), then I don’t know what is. I feel for the devs, they really thought this would work, but unless there is some “fine tuning” done, one of the major allures (to me at least), The Personal Story, is flat disappointing and disheartening.

Turn off Dynamic Scaling in personal stories

I agree with everyone to some extent here. I hate paying for repairs from the personal story when the rewards are lower level than what I can make or am wearing to survive the encounter. Suggestion to the devs, turn off damaging equipment during personal story. Give players choice of “normal” or “story” modes. Story mode could entail killing three to five specific mobs per phase between cutscenes, then move on. Those mobs could be marked with the green star. But bringing “Reimagining endgame” through the personal story to people who never intended to “raid” in the first place could be a turn-off. I understand that we don’t pay a monthly fee and cost-wise once we buy the game that’s all the money you can count on, but don’t run us out of town with a difficulty level that makes your fantastic game become a burden to play.

In general, I love the level scaling for doing lower level content. Keeps the challenge there throughout. However, it seems unrewarding to do lower level content when repairs are potentially high and rewards low. Some sort of advantage should be afforded for the higher level whether that means no repairs after level 80 in zones below 70 or something similar. I don’t want the conpetition nerfed, “kittened” or whatever but I don’t want to be able to take on 4 toons at level 55 and survive and just barely survive or be defeated in the same type encounter at 4, 14, or 24 and pay the price in repairs because my expensive armor I worked so hard to make or get is useless there. Just a thought. And yes, I realize I could dress out in cheaper armor for those levels, but why go to that expense or trouble?
