Yes, please change it to something that better fits their anatomy. If anything Char should have a 6 cup breastplate to fit their many nipples.

HOWTO install Bootcamp on a new Macbook Pro

Honestly I would suggest following this tutorial instead:
~/huguesval.com/blog/2012/02/installing-windows-7-on-a-mac-without-superdrive-with-virtualbox/

I didn’t know what I was getting at to begin with or I would have looked for alternatives. This sounds like a much better way to go about it. http://huguesval.com/blog/2012/02/installing-windows-7-on-a-mac-without-superdrive-with-virtualbox/

^— Yeah you should be able to do as Ceribis says for a rMBP. It’s only on an older MBP that you should have trouble installing Windows from a USB.

OSX can create a bootable Windows USB (on a new mac) through the bootcamp manager – and yes it takes a very long time to download the bootcamp files, but if you let it finish then it should work just fine.

Should should should should should just work. You sound like Apple

Those support threads I linked have scores of other people with new rMBPs having the same problems with the Win7 installation not completing properly and messing up the bootmgr. Bootcamp was always a kluge and in certain situations now it is extremely difficult to get installed.

I posted this to help others that might have the same problem jumping through all these hoops just to play a video game. I also posted it to show everyone saying “just install bootcamp it should be super easy” that bootcamp is tested about as well as a three-headed jungle wurm and it WILL break in many situations.

HOWTO install Bootcamp on a new Macbook Pro

In case anyone else is jumping ship, be forewarned that installing Windows 7 Bootcamp from an external USB on a new Mavericks retina MBP is a NIGHTMARE. I spent all last night and all day today staring at progress bars and typing in cryptic commands until I finally found the right sequence. Hopefully this will help someone in my same situation.

Note: some familiarity with Terminal.app and cmd.exe would be helpful, and it wouldn’t hurt to brush up on Windows boot manager, EFI & EFI BIOS emulation, partitioning/filesystems/NTFS/HFS+, and Windows Recovery Environment. Basically this requires a compsci degree and 10 years experience or you will probably bork your OSX install.

First, if you are using a dodgy downloaded x86/x86_64 combined Windows ISO then you will need to trick Bootcamp Assistant into accepting the 32bit part.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1561855

cp “/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app” “~/Boot Camp Assistant.app”
edit ~/Boot Camp Assistant.app info.plist and add youir Mac’s identifier, something like <string>MacBookPro13,1</string> to 32BitSupportedModels

Then you need to sign your changes.

sudo codesign -fs – ~/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
sudo codesign -fs – ~/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app

Then you can put your ISO onto your USB drive. While it is downloading the Boot Camp crap that isn’t going to work, now would be a good time to download it yourself:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638

Put that on another USB disk or add it to your Windows disk. You’ll need it at the end to manually install the drivers.

Repartition your drive with Boot Camp Assistant and let it reboot into your Windows USB disk. You have to boot into it this way or else it won’t detect your keyboard/trackpad.

Install Windows. It takes a long time. It will fail at the end saying some disk is missing. Reboot into your USB install disk and choose repair. Don’t let it do any of the auto startup repair or it might mess up the voodoo. Follow the instructions here to use the recovery console:

https://discussions.apple.com/message/24374055#24374055

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd – (this successfully found 1 windows install, “Add installation to boot list?” “Y”, you should get “The requested system device cannot be found”)

(make the partition active, this assumes your drive is c)

diskpart
lis vol
sel vol c
act
exi

bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
bootsect /nt60 all /mbr

REBOOOOOOOOOT

Now it will almost be working. To get the Bootcamp drivers installed, you can’t just open them! Copy it to your local windows drive then open up an administrator cmd.exe (hint you can right-click with shift+F10) and cd to where you copied the drivers Drivers\Apple and run bootcamp.msi

https://discussions.apple.com/message/24411742#24411742

Each of those steps took 2-3 hours to figure out. All in all I don’t recommend it unless you are really familiar with this stuff as you can hose your OSX install at basically every step along the way. I can’t believe I resized that partition 15 times without destroying my filesystem.

Have fun!

Everyone, try deleting your “~/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2” directory. It will be recreated next time you launch the client.

Support told me to try that and it appears to have helped. I’m in EotM right now getting up to 50-75 FPS again on my normal settings. It is dipping down to 10-20 with a lot of people around but it is actually playable now.

Tried that, but it is not fixed unfortunately.

I take it back, it’s still pretty bad. I didn’t have much luck with vmware either. Uggh, bootcamp.

Let’s hope things are better at 10:45 am pst

HAHAHAHA we came over here from the Mac forums because staff stopped reading that board MONTHS ago. Until this issue gets addressed officially us Mac users are desperately trying to get attention to it as the game is unplayable.

you can put bootcamp onto a 64 GB flash drive you get for $30
however, not all versions of windows will run on it (unlike mac OS, windows normally won’t boot from a flash drive, but it can be done)
this may help : http://lmgtfy.com/?q=bootcamp+flash+drive

It works only on MAC that doesn’t have DVD reader.

sorry, but wrong. I have 2 DVD drives and a flash drive with OS 10 and some utility software on it. For the flash drive, I just installed Mac OS 10 onto it like normal. Easiest to hold down option on startup to select it to start with. It does take a bit longer to start, but not bad. I’ve even been able to play GW2, which was on my internal, while booted off the flash drive, and copying my entire HD to a backup external.

Actually they aren’t wrong. There are a couple of exceptions when it comes to newer macs, but for the most part any MBP or iMac purchased before 2012 that has a disc drive you can’t boot from a USB, install from a USB or install to a USB.

There are a couple of ways to circumvent it, but it involves installing windows in a virtual box and correctly removing the system reserved partition.

So whilst your mac might be able to do it, a lot can’t.

I installed Snow Leopard from a USB hard drive onto a 2008 MBP that had a broken internal DVD drive. I had to reboot a bunch of times while holding opt to finally get it to boot from the external drive. It was a hassle but I did it so I think everyone is somewhat misinformed on this topic.

For the record, I DO NOT advocate any Mac client users running out and buying Windows licenses just to play Guild Wars. A-net sold us a Mac client and they should stick behind supporting it or trash the whole thing altogether.

I guess I should chime in with my specs and whatnot as well:

Macbook Pro Retina, Oct 2013
2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
OS X 10.9.1 (13B3116)

Always had mediocre but playable framerates, 30-50 fps. New patch tanked everything. 2-3 fps in wvw with only a handful of people on lowest settings. It is unplayable, worse than playing on my old computer from an external harddrive.

Can staff tell us if this is even going to be looked at? Is the mac client truly dead in the water as many are saying?

Bootcamp is not a solution to problems with the Mac client. Some of us don’t want to repartition our drives to make space and risk having to restore from backups if something goes wrong. Some of us simply don’t want to buy, install, or use Windows. For me, the Mac client was a big draw for buying and supporting this game in the first place.

Logitech G600 everything is a left-click

They ported the Logitech Gaming Software toilet to Mac this year. It is theoretically awesome, letting you easily edit per-application settings, macros, all sort of customizability and fanciness. The problem is that it is software from Logitech so it is buggy as all hell. The main problems are what I outlined above and only seem to happen in Guild Wars. This left-click detection thing and it has had problems since launch with holding down mouse1 & mouse2 to run. I bought it mostly for my GW2 experience so this wasn’t going to work.

Fortunately, you can use their software to switch the mouse into hardware profile mode, disable its built-in profile switching, and make it just send normal keyboard events (G buttons mapped to numpad, G-shift mapped to shift). I then uninstalled it, installed ControllerMate, and setup a profile to listen to those keypresses on the mouse, prevent them from happening, and translate them into whatever keyboard keys I want for the currently running application. I basically recreated the functionality of the Logitech software and I prefer it because ControllerMate has way more “to the metal” customizability.

The hardware is freaking great otherwise. Only problem is accidentally hitting the G-shift button when trying to get a good grip like all the reviews say. Also the back row of G buttons is a little hard to feel out. I’m still getting adjusted to the controls and having everything on my right hand. It’s gonna be great once my muscle memory is retrained.

Here’s a new one for you (I did submit a ticket, but thought i’d raise it here also)…

When I click on “Buy Gems” the page that appears is completely blank, hence making gem purchasing impossible. FWIW I’m running the mac client.

Same on Mac client.

There is a switch in the Logitech gaming software to choose whether then mouse uses its internal memory configuration or the more feature-rich software configuration. It appears that the mouse functions differently depending on this setting even if both say they are doing the same thing.

I managed to get it working by using the internal memory. This doesn’t allow the fancier per-application settings but at least it is a workaround for the few Mac G600 users.

With the default settings on a brand-new fully-updated G600, any side button or the modifier button is being detected as a left click in Guild Wars in addition to performing its proper keybinding. The first thumb button performs the 1 skill but also selects whatever target is under the cursor or starts running forward if right-click is being held down as well.

Ironically, the only thing that doesn’t work is holding down the actual left and right mouse buttons together to run forward. Any other button on there with the right button will make the character run forward except the actual left mouse button.

I tried to replicate G buttons being mis-detected as mouseclicks in other programs (Photoshop marquee selection, Chrome text selection) but it seems limited to Guild Wars so I am asking for help here first. I have all of the Mac-specific camera options unchecked.

Mouse camera going haywire... how to fix?

fizzle.6784

I was having the exact same problem. I’m on a new macbook as well, trying to get this working with the basic logitech mouse I’ve been using on bootcamp gw2. When I first tried to play on mac, the camera would go crazy, wildly spinning around, with left and right reversed.

I managed to get it to work by futzing around with the camera via the trackpad. When I switched back to the mouse it was working. The camera is still a little bit wonky compared to windows, wanting to spin around more.

Maybe this can help the devs diagnose the problem or at least help anyone else get their mouse working.
