Howdy Fellow Tyrians!!

I started this thread, formerly named the ‘Thank You Thread’, in the hopes that the GW2 Community would post their ‘thank yous’ to ArenaNet for working so hard at creating a game fans/players would enjoy. I thought it would be awesome if they received some positive feedback and a little snapshot of the players behind the characters throughout this beautiful virtual world. Seeing as how the post had a few hundred views and only two responses originally, I suspect there was a problem with how I communicated what I was asking for.

As the wife of an IT guy who has been for many years one of the unseen people working in the background at keeping things smoothly running, I know from him how disheartening at times it can be to only be noticed when on the rare occasion something breaks. Never receiving recognition for the fact that the majority of the time, all is working as intended and clients are happy.

Going through these forums and seeing all of the criticism – constructive and not – (especially the not constructive posts) towards Arenanet and other players – well, I just felt moved to try and get something together that might bring a smile to people’s faces.

So what I’m after:
What you like about the game
Who you are behind your character
What the game has added to your life (if anything)
A thank you

I get that there are those who prefer to remain anonymous – so feel free to skip the personal stuff. It would be great to see more people posting some kind of positive feedback to this thread though, so I hope you’ll join me in showing appreciation to the folks at Arenanet for a job well done.

Pink Day in LA - Official Event Thread

in In-game Events

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

As a 5 time breast cancer survivor currently undergoing chemo to mop up any stray cells that may have gone on walkabout in my body, I whole-heartedly support this initiative and in fact, have along with many others, volunteered time to help raise awareness, fundraise and lead events for Pink Day 2015.

While I might not see a cure in my lifetime, research is what is keeping me alive so that my kids don’t lose their mom while they still need me, my husband doesn’t lose his wife (before he’s ready to trade up for a newer model, ha!) and my best friend doesn’t lose her soul sister any time soon.

Cancer Research is a global community – results from trials are shared around the world helping medical professionals tailor treatment for their patients. So it doesn’t hugely matter what country you live in when your donations are going to cancer research.

Since originally being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2008, I have reaped the benefits of Global research and am currently on a fairly new chemotherapy agent that is targeted so it nukes the mutated cells, and not my healthy ones. The hope is that I will have fewer side effects and all of the mutations will get picked up thus keeping me in remission for a much longer time than previously.

Had it not been for this research, I may not be here today.

Please consider donating real money – if you can’t and not everyone can, especially in this economy, consider alternate ways of helping. Spread the word about Pink Day, volunteer to help run events or give a portion of your T-6 farmed materials to Yailith.4056. Most importantly, try to participate in the pre-events and the main event! You’ll have fun and it is for a very worthy cause.

The Farewell Colin Johanson Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

For those that have a kind word or two for Colin Johanson, on today his last day with ArenaNet, this is the thread that I hope y’all will join in wishing him well.

My first hand experience of Mr Johanson: pretty darn nice guy. He took the time earlier this year to reach out to me when he’d heard about me being in cancer treatment for my 5th occurrence of cancer. He was also a great supporter of charitable events that took place in GW2 – events like Toga for MS and Pink Day in LA for cancer. I’m sure there are others he’s lent his support to as well.

It will be so nice for Mr Johanson and his family to have him working close to home. No matter how much you love your job, a long commute can take a toll. Wishing him all the best in his future endeavours…congratulations and farewell!

ArenaNet: Are these items obsolete now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

Howdy ArenaNet!

I’ve been hanging on to some items for a very long time because I wasn’t sure whether or not to destroy them. I was hoping that once the events were finished, the items would simply disappear, but that hasn’t been the case.

Are the following now obsolete or are they useful in some way that I don’t know about? Should I be deleting them now?

Orphan Laine’s Letter
Krait Obelisk Shard Transcriber
Evon Gnashblade Representation Buttons (are these going to reappear at some point)
Ellen Kiel Representation Buttons (as above)
Fortune Scrap (I have 209 – are these going to reappear in game again?)
Marjory’s Journal
Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Tickets

I think that is it…

Thank you!

^^xadine.7069 Sometimes it is nice to get just a ‘thank you’, spelled out, with nothing else attached. I totally agree, the players that post here with constructive criticism do so out of a love for the game. I just think sometimes, a thread like this with no criticism attached, constructive or otherwise, would be a nice thing to read. An example: I know my family love me by the things I do, but it is really nice when they say the words too. And vice versa.

Guild Chat & Upgrades Queue Bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

As reported by others, Guild Chat isn’t working. Messages typed in to chat are not displaying on screen.

The other issue is that the Guild Upgrades build system isn’t working either. I noted that of the three things we had building, 2 completed early leaving one still building (the Asuran Outsourcing for us). We have 5 things sitting in the queue waiting to be built – but nothing is moving into the spare build slot.

I wanted to say thank you for your continued efforts to engage with the players and fans. It can’t be easy at times with lots of negative feedback when things go wrong. GW2 is a fantastic and beautiful game – I’m very much looking forward to playing it as it continues to evolve (roll on HoT!).

The things I love about this game are what keep me coming back, persuading others to give GW2 a go and to set up an EU guild directory for all things GW2. I love that I can play with my daughter in Tyria, there is no node or loot competition, doesn’t punish the casual player, beautiful landscapes, interesting content, lots and lots to explore, and you don’t have to use game mods. GW2 is not ‘buy to win’ and in fact is I think fantastic value for money, so much so I don’t mind buying gems from time to time for the fun stuff that pops up in the Gem Store.

I am a very proud 50 year old mom of two primary school aged children and a wife. One of my hobbies is playing MMOs – my husband got me started on WoW back in 2005. I’ve been playing GW2 since the first pre-release Betas. GW2 has been a wonderful escape at times because I’ve been doing battle in real life with breast cancer. I’ve had it 5 times since 2008 and am currently in treatment for my most recent occurrence in June.

Being able to hop on my Ranger and play with my online friends and my daughter has given me many hours of fun and some of the biggest laughs I’ve ever had playing an MMO. I have ‘met’ some great people, made a few good friends and have lots of fond memories. Thank you Arenanet peoples!!

Found it….is in the Canopy over Noble Crash Site. Get to it from Faren’s Flyer Waypoint…gliding east. So yeah, it showed as being done, but it allowed me to commune with it which gave me the completion. Hope ANet fixes this one…I wouldn’t have ever figured this out had it not been for someone else discovering it and posting to the forums. So thank you so much Chaba!

I love this little home instance thingy! though it would be fun to see a dog or other animal ripping through there…the frog hopping about with the PvP cats is a total hoot; and there is the cub (too cute) and the snow ball kitties. Totally awesome the way the devs made it interactive so the cats followed you if you had the snowball. I hadn’t realised the collection had been expanded so I need to go back and pick up some more.

Gamers Giving Back Events & ArenaNet

fizzypetal.7936

Howdy folks!

Earlier this month I received in the post a marvelous surprise…

I have had breast cancer 5 times since 2008 and am currently on chemo for my most recent occurrence diagnosed mid June 2015. I had the pleasure of working with Rhonda Head aka Malibu Barbie (Yailith.4056) as a volunteer organiser for Pink Day in LA 2015. It was via Barbie that my personal situation came to the attention of ArenaNet.

Inside the card was a beautiful hand written message from Colin Johanson and the signatures of 36 ANet folks. To quote from the card: “Keep up the good fight and know that everyone here at ArenaNet has your back and is rooting for you.”

When the card came through and I saw the name on the return address on the envelope, I was confused. The only Colin Johanson I knew worked for ArenaNet. When I opened the card, read the message and saw all the signatures, my jaw hit the floor, my eyes filled with tears and I immediately called my husband to share the news. Then told a few close friends. A couple weeks on and I’m still astonished.

The point of sharing…

That Colin Johanson and his team took time to send their best wishes to me shows what big hearts peeps in ArenaNet have. They do care about their players and the wider world we live in. ArenaNet have a history of supporting players in their charitable endeavors – take Pink Day for example – Pink Dye was introduced as a way of supporting the Pink Day initiative. ArenaNet also donated a bunch of prizes for the draws that were held on the day.

The number of super cool and awesome people I have met through GW2 far outweighs some of the negative people that have very occasionally crossed my path. GW2 is one of my main social outlets in addition to Facebook and Twitter. Sitting at home in my jimjams with a clean bathroom and plenty of loo roll is far more appealing to me nowadays than sitting in a pub barely able to hear the person in front of me because the music is so dang loud.

For me, GW2 is a game that gives me a break from real life when things start getting too heavy. I get to dress however I want, I get to have boobs again, I get to do things like fly and run for miles without getting tired. I can have awesome pets like dragons and big cats, fire a bow and arrow or be a healer.

I have been playing GW2 since Beta. When you feel like the devs don’t care, think again. They may not get it right the first time or all the time, but they sure do try and will keep trying. They engage with the community in a way I personally have not seen with any other game producer. It is this caring about the community, the beautiful game that continues to evolve and the many lovely players, some of which have become friends, that will keep me playing GW2.

When Pink Day comes around in October of this year, please do mark it on your calendars and make an effort to participate in some way. You don’t have to be a volunteer organiser to be a part of it – donating materials for prize give-aways, helping spread the word, supporting those that are running farm events in Orr, Silverwastes and other maps (obviously check the forums first to check the farms are legit) and participating in events on the day are all ways you can support the Pink Day initiative. Although Pink Day and October are associated with breast cancer, the Pink Day event is much more than just raising awareness of breast cancer but to also raise much needed funds for cancer research into all types of cancers, some of which are hugely underfunded (pediatric for example).

To listen to Malibu Barbie’s story, how she got started with Gamers Giving back, the other charities Gamers Giving Back support and ArenaNet’s part in contributing to Gamers Giving Back success, have a listen to this podcast. Barbie’s segment starts at 58.47.

Turn down particle effects?

We have a guildie with epilepsy who can’t play certain elements of the game because of the effects. Our guildie had a really bad time of it with one of the fractals – a snow blind one. CoF is another that is a real problem and can’t be played. The flamethrower on the engineer is a ‘repeat offender’ as well. For me – well some of the effects can trigger migraines if I’m playing the game for too long (zerging in EoTM for example).

I love the slider suggestion….if devs could give us the ability to tone down the effects and soften the patterns (white on black for example), that would be most excellent!

Don’t mind the question at all. It really depends on the evening – I personally wasn’t on last night, but looking at the roster, there were 12 logged in over the past 24 hours.

We are actively recruiting as we know we need more active players on our roster. A few of us are married, with children or outside interests but when we do have time to play, we’d like for us as well as our members, to be able to bring a group together from within the guild.

We’d also like to be able to get everyone together at least once a week for Guild Missions. In fact we are hoping to run our first mission on Sunday 15 Feb.

The rest of the time, just go with the flow…map completions, WvW, fractals, dungeons, achievement hunting or some other random activity…

We don’t require our members to log in daily – at least once a month at a minimum.

Howdy folks! It has a been a looooooong time since I updated this thread…I blame my house move! Now that we are situated and life is a little calmer, it is easier for me to find time for GW2 (yay) and admin stuff (not so yay, but necessary). I have started tidying up euguilds.com so that only active guilds are listed. If you are currently registered, lookout for ingame mails from me asking the question – is your guild still active?

For those not familiar with euguilds.com….well the super nifty thing about the directory is the ease of use. Guild leaders don’t have to bump their recruitment threads to be seen and players don’t have to sift through hundreds of posts trying to find a guild on their preferred server or doing their preferred activity.

If you’ve not checked out euguilds.com, hop on over. You don’t need to register on our site to list your guild recruitment message or to view existing recruitment threads. Easy, peasy!!

ArenaNet: Are these items obsolete now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

Suggestion to ANet: when quest or event items become obsolete, either because the event is over and not going to be repeated or the quest chain objective has been completed (as in the case of the Star of Gratitude quest line), associated quest items disappear from player inventory. Bag/Bank space is premium so it would be really, really great if a feature like this could be implemented.

EU - The Silverwastes Nukefest - 16 Sept

in In-game Events

Posted by: fizzypetal.7936

fizzypetal.7936

Howdy fellow Tyrians on the EU side!

Most of you hopefully will have by now heard of and are planning to join the Pink Day in LA event on 17 October. Pink Day In LA organisers need in game materials donations so they can give out lots of prizes on Pink Day In LA day! To help out, RoC [Reapers of Corvus] and [PINK] are hosting a ‘Silverwastes Nukefest’ on Wednesday 16 September from 19:30 UK for EU players .

At 19:30 UK time, meet at Camp Resolve Waypoint in The Silverwastes with plenty of bag space, your axes and picks at the ready. In addition to doing some Mordrem pruning, we shall be chopping and mining mats as we go along. Any yellows and lower level gear you get, please break them down for T-6 mats. Any exotics would be most gratefully received as well.

If your toon isn’t high enough level for The Silverwastes, you can still help. Some of the lower level materials such as cotton, linen, iron and so on are used in time gated Ascended crafting materials and are most welcome donations.

Please send your donations to one of the following:
jknrich.1549
MissHedgehog.1052
fizzypetal.7936.

All the proceeds will be passed on to the Pink Day organisers.

If you can’t make it to the event, no problem. As you travel around Tyria in the coming weeks, please consider donating a portion of your materials farming when you are adventuring. All donations gratefully received!

This event will be live streamed on www.twitch.tv/djangozapp so dye that armour pink, break out your Pink Quaggan Backpack and be ready to have some fun!
