Eh – I understand what Safir is saying. If it gives a competitive advantage then perhaps it should be enabled for everyone. I don’t think this is the same as locking PvE content behind gliding; competitive game modes should put everyone on an equal footing.
Anet, would you consider giving vanilla players a basic glider for WvW?
(Disclaimer; I’m in the EU and haven’t been able to play the updates yet. But I already own HoT and pre-purchased the new expansion, so not driven by personal gain).

Your players’ builds are very squishy on the whole, I imagine it’s a bit demoralising when they get stomped by a party much smaller than theirs. AM are condi blobbing and tend to focus on you because you’re the easier target.
Speak to your guilds about doing some proper work on your WvW builds, get them all on TS, stay tight together and keep your head up. AM aren’t good, they are just a bit blobby, you can still turn this week around.
Thief is designed to be a solo roaming class – if you go one on one with a good thief in WvW you should expect to die. Especially if you’re a squishy build that can’t cope with 10k damage.
I don’t see this being a problem at all – thieves die first in proper group battles, and if you nerf their one-on-one power they’ll become utterly useless as a class.
