Whats so scary about scrappers???

“So feared?” I’m not so sure I follow.

Scrapper is not a PvE spec and its additions of the hammer or its gyros aren’t really very apparent or even valued there. You have to remember that PvP and WvW are played very differently from PvE. PvP has a very stringent and controlled meta, and it just so happens that the scrapper’s overwhelming condition cleanse and damage reduction makes it a very good duelist/side-point class right now, especially when gyros also provide stability, healing, and damage on top of their preordained utility.

I also find scrapper to be the tankiest build in WvW and one of the best solo roamers. I’d be happy to share my builds but it’s also important you understand a bit of the metagame (which doesn’t seem to be the case). On that subject I’d be happy to help you, though.

I had more luck with a non scrapper p/p condi build so far. Would you explain why the healing and damage reduction is better than many other classes? Which skills particular? And i never cared for meta. And builds that could explain more?

Feared because when you look up pvp most classes say they can beat most classes except DH, scrapper or necro.

I leveled my engi manually to 80 and when i unlocked scrapper build i was so disappointed. Maybe i just blow at playing one but when i read the forum i come across “high sustain”, " unkillable", “just run when you see one”. I mean i have other 80s and the engi in HoT really disappointed me. My damage with Hammer is underpar, my heal blows and against HoT mobs i have to put so much more efford than with other toons.

Whats the secret? Why is the scrapper so feared?

Hammer & Greatsword damage

I got several 80s (manually leveled) but i was curious about the warrior. So i used my test 80 boost to have an equipped warrior in the silverwastes. I tried all the weapon combination on different mobs to see the damage numbers.

I have to say that Greatsword (and the famous 100 blades) was damage wise awful. I dont get why it is described often kitten good.

Longbow also very slow and low numbers. Takes ages to kill something.

Rifle is surprisingly good, i kill faster than with melee.

Axe is great and fast to kill something. Actually i found it the only good melee weapon.

Hammer is bad and slow. The cc is neat but thats it.

Sword is second to axe decent in damage and conditions are nice.

Mace is meh.

Am i doing something wrong? I mean i already got Power and crit. Please advice what to do to make those weapons work.

You are 100% right about event mobs or champions and so on. I am talking that i am being “helped” on every single trash mob. What do people think? “Oh this 1/2 down moa may kill this full health player, lets help him”. Its especially annoying if they are random rangers just passing by, pfft pfft killing the mob on the run.

Ok, now that is some funny stuff right there. I could totally picture some dude running up like he / she wears a cape in real life and slaying that mighty queensdale moa for you then walking away all macho and mumbling to themselves “I just saved that dude. HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW!”

You got my point.

It’s an open world game. Maybe break combat and ask them to not interfere? Maybe announce your intentions in map chat and ask them to not interfere? Maybe use the resources available to you like the test golem and no one will interfere? Or maybe just accept that you are playing a game with many many thousands of other people who also want to play this same game and that the content you are doing in an open world is also available to aforementioned players and that you have no right to not let them interfere?

Thats grouping is for. If i want help i team up. If i am solo and run into remote areas of the map to try “something” on not even hostile mobs i can be sure the next player passing by will oneshot my mob. And guess what? I did it and asked politely not to kill my trash mob, but no answer, nothing.

Its just annoying, sometimes i WANT to solo and decide to do so. I am not taking away something from other people like trying to solo champions or events.

Its the psychology behind it. Why should you do that at all?

Because, unlike in other MMOs, in this game the community is conditioned to be actually helpful.
Which i consider a good thing.

I also love to help. But help, if help is needed. I dont jump on every crap mob a level 1 would be able to sneeze down…jeez.

I want to test a build or some tactics or whatever and look for some lonely trash mob.

Honestly if you can’t take down a lonely trash mob before someone else wanders by and kills it for you, then your build is a fail

Its not about “not able to take it down”. If i test abilities, dodging or whatever it doesnt mean i cant take it down, more so if i am even full health…

If i want to quickly test something i dont do that fuzz. I look for a lonely corner to try it on some trash. Even then i had it that 3 (!!!) players were ganging up on “my” wasp (not even veteran or such). Like it was a champion dropping some exotics.

Its the psychology behind it. Why should you do that at all? Like there were dozend other wasps around me. Why “mine”????

Its not that its a MMO game. But you dont need “help” on a single trash in some far away pocket of the map. Its like putting that jar of peanutbutter in the shopping cart for some other customer in the supermarket. “Oh i thought you need help with that heavy jar…”.

I know they dont do it on purpose. But i dont run around killing trash mobs another player is involved in. Maybe if its 2:1 and the player has lost a lot of health. And the “not looting” is that they pling pling and run off without even being close to the dead mob. I know there is an archivement, but i dont think its that. Looting some hyaena isnt exactly worth the while.

Well had this a thousand times. I want to test a build or some tactics or whatever and look for some lonely trash mob. Suddenly while fighting some other player(s) show up and wasting the mob. Its not that i even lost any health or am in danger. They just gang up on “my” mob and spoil it. I wouldnt rant on it but this happens so often that its unreal. They dont even loot the corpse, and the xp they gain surley is minimal. Why oh god why then?
