I see where you’re getting at, Zaoda. But they’re asking all this technical stuff to make things easier for them, and make things less frustrating to whoever wants to take part. :b

If you could join the contest (D:) you’d have more or less a month to learn the basics of photoshop/whatever to create your art. Considering they’re not asking something out of this world and are actually giving lots of examples for you to follow AND that you can use freeware software to make your emblem, it’s perfectly viable. That is, as long as you’d consider learning just to enter this contest.

Zaoda.1653: They probably are making this contest as tech-unfriendly, as you’re suggesting, because just an idea isn’t enough. They’ll be not evaluating pieces of fan art, but emblems that must fit with other emblems in Guild Wars 2. Maybe that’s not obvious to you, but stuff on paper almost never look the same on the screen. After drawing your idea, you need to clean it up, maybe vectorize it, color it accordingly and whatever else they’re asking to (I didn’t look it up, I can’t take part in the contest so meh).
So, yeah, more people could join the contest if Anet wasn’t asking for all this technical stuff? Of course, but with that the winning contestants would have no guarantee that their original idea would be represented as they wished, because fine-tuning these paper drawings into digital designs is incredibly subjective.

Galyr.3519: Yes, it is a reason, but I don’t believe that’s apliable to this case. Entire continents were left out. Absolutely no country from South America was listed, not even Mexico.

Kythrie.7653: I agree with you, unfortunately. I’m from Brazil, so I’m used to not be allowed to participate in these foreign contests. But it was a bit weird not seeing Australia listed. If they’re indeed restricting it to NA and EU it’s disappointing, really. Just the other day they were hosting a test pvp tournament exclusive to South America…
