(but also don’t expect any groundshaking changes on this). the company made their money selling the game then enticing folks into buying gems from them using real dollars.
they wouldn’t make money bridging directx 11 and appear to have no motivation to address massively experienced performance issues.
it’s been six months, and they have no plans of expansion.
overclocking may be your only bandaid here, but make sure you know what you are doing.
game is poorly optimized for even quad cores, and is running on directx 9. don’t take it personally.
Need some advice regarding game performance.

it is the CPU and Anet’s development of this game on archaic architecture which are holding you back my friend.
GPU is older, yes, but it’s the CPU that will make the difference. 4.5ghz+ is a bonus. doesn’t matter if it’s more than 4 cores, since GW2 only makes (shotty) use of 3.
lol. I wonder if I should preemptively start a ‘FREE JAZ!’ thread in preparation for when you ‘disappear’.
I want you to start checking in 12x a day, and if we don’t hear a post with an encrypted ‘Choo Choo’ tucked within it’s text every 2 hours, we know they’ve taken you and hidden you in the dungeon under their corporate offices.
I’m really curious about this port-theory. It’s like how science stands at the idea of DMT being released in the brain @ birth + death. All things point to yes.
also, this blatant lack of responsibility or support for such a troublesome issue has turned me off to playing anything without a sub fee that isn’t already f2p.

no, ncsoft and anet both admit they where looking at putting gw2 on console.
1. 360 is tricore, the game has 3 heavy threads.
2. 360 has dx9 level gfx, gw2 has dx9 only, despite over the years saying it would launch with dx10 and later even 11 support.
3. the control scheme and limit of skills is well suited to an xbox style controller, and the fact that anet and ncsoft both said they where looking into putting the game on console is a good sign they really did build the internals of the game in hopes of a port to 360, only abandoning it when it was shown the game was to heavy to run on the 360.
limiting the skill selection is also good for console gamers, as they really, enlarge wouldnt be able to deal with the kind of skill diarrhea gw1 was harbor to(it was overkill honestly with the multi classing and such, theres a reason it got the name build wars….)
honestly, I dont see how some people cant see that part of the reason gw2 is what it is, is that gw2 was designed with dreams of a console port.
If it looks, walks, and quacks like a duck…
And I would recommend uncrossing any fingers on this, Wauwi. If they already have our $60 bucks, where is the motivation to implement dx10 or 11? Where is the motivation to implement more content? I read a recent article saying they were no longer planning expansions for the game.
- Gotta love when the last “Performance” sticky from Mods was posted 5 months ago

Kuunkulta – I also want to clear something up that may be confusing.
Some folks will tell you that the reason you are having issues is that the game is ‘too cpu-bound’. This is misleading when the real problem seems to be that the game does not know how to make proper use of said CPUs.
- anet arent going to fix this because, in their view and by the words and actions of their reps, there is no problem on their end….its either user error or the fault of hardware makers…..
Can you link sources on this? I haven’t been able to track down much dialogue from the actual company in regards to these issues.
Of course they are going to deny anything. If this game had a subscription fee they would have ensured sustainability to boot and this would not be an issue.
From what I can tell, they built it cheap n’ easy on the original engine.
Would love some feedback from Jazhara on all this. You seem to have a descent grip on things from other forum posts I’ve read of yours.
Yeah, it’s funny to see F2P’s more dedicated to their community than this.
It is my understanding that this game was built on GW’s original engine.
If they knew that this would create a poorly optimized relationship between the game and even new CPU’s, why would they go ahead and build it on the old infrastructure? Cheaper, sure. Easier, sure. Is that convenience worth having those that support you suffer?
Before any fanbois jump on this like a pack of brainless bulldogs, I am not simply complaining about a game we both want to enjoy. I am trying to figure out what they were expecting to happen. They surely would have foreseen this, and if not a cheaper + quicker way to get the game out there, then what?
Also, I’ve spent countless hours roaming various internet forums trying to figure out if there was some way to, at home, fix the communication between my CPU and the game. Unparking CPU’s, check. Overclocking the CPU, check. Trying an overclock on the GPU as well as stock settings, check. Drivers/Beta or otherwise/fresh uninstalls + reinstalls of redistributes and everything in between, check. I have played with the settings in game, and I still haven’t found a way to smooth out those little sudden fps drops. I sit @ 60fps in vsync pretty much anywhere except major cities or, ofc, world event situations. But even in open world, sitting at the magic 60 frames, sudden fps drops that NO other game on the market would have on even higher settings.
I don’t expect any new suggestions on how I can fix the problem. What I am wondering is:
What is Anet doing to fix this problem?
Also:
CAN they even fix it? If the game is, like I have read, built on the first GW engine, is this even something that can be fixed?
I’m lead to believe not. Because if they could, I would have imagined that around 5 months in, it would have been addressed, in full.
I don’t know how much faith to have in a company that would produce a game that won’t even take advantage of now-old hardware. (Not saying mine is already ‘old’, but I’ve also read that the game only uses 3 cores). This came out in the 3rd quarter of 2012. Get with the program on so many levels.
- I must also add that I can’t fathom the nerve this company has ask people to give them MORE MONEY after purchasing the game for $60. Talk about karma.
- Upon further research, I am now concerned that the explanation to this question is as simple as the company wanted to port this game to console(s). If that’s the case, I guarantee myself and none of my friends will be purchasing games from Anet in the future. It sounds to me like this company shafted everyone by putting out a game on inferior architecture because it was cheaper + easier + would provide them more money if a port would occur. Which it won’t, because it turns out the thing is too much for a 360 to handle.
