I would love an option to permanently display the small health bars above all nearby allies.
While playing a Druid in this beta weekend, having to awkwardly move my mouse across my allies to see who was low on health felt far more like playing the UI than just being able to always see their health bars above them.
I honestly don’t see how being able to easily know the status of your allies detracts from the gameplay, in fact it enhances it by keeping a lot of the necessary information where all of the action is occurring and allowing you to act far more situationally. For example, if some boss is charging up a large attack, you are able to see who is low on health AND in the area of the boss’s attack, therefore being able to focus your support on whoever needs it most to survive the attack.
In my opinion, your competence in a supporting role shouldn’t be determined by how well you can hover your mouse over your allies, or glance at the left side of the screen and then rapidly locate any of the players with low health on the battlefield. It should instead be about your ability to react to the events occurring around you and utilizing all of your supporting ability to allow your team to succeed.
