Latency/Lag for EU Players? [merged]

I can confirm that it happens during “EU peak hours”.
Was able to do Tequatl this morning (09:00 SAST (GMT+2)) without too much hassle.

Soon after that, however, things went pear-shaped.

Thus, around 07:00 – 08:00 GMT it started slowing down and I eventually had to log off due to GW2 being unplayable.

(PS: After I logged off I continued to use the Internet for Youtube streaming, TeamViewing to my work PC, and general browsing without the SLIGHTEST hiccup)

Where:
South Africa (playing on EU server)

When:
All the time

Game World:
Aurora Glade

Brief description of what you’re seeing:
Seriously hectic lag in most maps (LA, Cursed Shore, Queensdale, etc)…
BUT
Almost NO lag in Straits of Devastation…

I’m attaching my network stats for GW2 as well as tracert to server in Frankfurt (DE)

All other traffic to and from my PC runs at full speed (4mb line and all) but ONLY Guild Wars 2 is giving me this issue.

I’m not FORCED to use any equipment.
I like to use Celestial as it makes my Engineer a “Jack of All Trades”.
I use Power, Toughness, Vitality, Conditions, Crit, etc etc in equal measures.

Do not presume to think everyone wants to play the way you do.
And don’t judge us for playing the way we want to.

It’s the WoW-centric Elitists that are busy making this game less fun.
“We want to farm!”
“We want to grind!”
“We want to min/max and theorycraft the snot out of everything!”

If you want to play a WoW-type game go play WoW.

And PS: This is an aggressive post because I’m sick and tired of forum topics containing “GW2 SUCKS” or “This game is stupid”.

tl;dr
If you want to play a game like WoW, go play WoW and leave us to our casual game.

+1 to everything.
GW2 is NOT casual-friendly any more.

When last did you have time for:

  • Personal Story?
  • Levelling an alt?
  • Just socializing in a town?
  • Do something with your guild?
  • Work towards World Explorer title?

It’s a crazy rush to do content that will disappear forever in a fortnight.
The last event I REALLY tried to participated in was the Winter’s Day one. After that they all just kind of blur into each other in my mind’s eye.

Engineer all day and twice on Sundays!

Some Engineer points of interest:

  • We’ve only EVER HAD 900 range (not using kits). We didn’t have 1200 range that got nerfed to 900 but left us with a main hand weapon that could do 1200 (ala Longbow).
An argument could be made for Grenades that has 1200 range, but your DPS will be next to 0 at that >1000 units with grenades.
Also, we’re able to trait for 1200 range on Rifles… using up a trait that everyone else got a pass on with their built-in main hand range.
  • Turrets (1/5th of our skills) are utterly useless for anything other than long range pot-shots at enemies. Add to this their ridiculous cool-down and bug that makes them ignore enemies and shoot into empty space and they are more than worthless.
  • Elixirs (1/5th of our skills) are RANDOM! If, during a fight, you quaff an elixir you can expect EITHER protection OR regeneration, OR swiftness… One of our Elites is an Elixir, that if drunk, will EITHER turn you into the Hulk OR turn you into a tornado…
  • Gadgets (1/5th of our skills) are so incoherent that no build can be made around them.
  • Weapon Kits (we have 3) REPLACES your main hand and off hand weapons with a weapon that until recently didn’t proc weapon sigils. Toolkit (1/3) turns the Engineer (an adventurer class) into a melee class… Flamethrower turns us into a mid-range class (~400 range)… Elixir Gun takes away 70% of our damage in a game where less damage earns you silver or bronze rewards in events even though you healed/supported your kitten off.
  • Our kits (or hobosack) are worn on our backs and thus hide any other back item. Our kits also replaces our main/off hand weapons which means our Legendary weapons are visible only in towns or in builds that uses NO kits.

In conclusion:
Engineer is a jack-of-all-trades;master-of-none in every sense of the word.
It feels as if ANet can’t make up their minds as to our role. EVERY other class (including Ranger) can handle their discipline better than the Engineer. They DPS better, they support better, they “tank” better, they evade better. Engineers just barely get along at the moment.

BUT
Engineer is still the most fun class to play BECAUSE of our limitations. No two Engineers will use the same cookie-cutter build.

How is the engineer in PvE?

My Engineer feels VERY fun after the 25/06 patch.
Pistol/Shield with Flamethrower, Elixir Gun and Rocket Boots (and of course Supply Drop)
I now work mostly in Flamethrower for trash & mobs and pistol/shield + Elixir for world bosses.
Also, Rocket Boots is only slightly shorter than FT #1… So I give ’em a rocket kick to the face every now and then between FT #1 blasts.

TONS of fun!!
and very survivable with Pistol’s Static Shot (#3), Shield’s #4 & #5, Rocket Boots jump, Air Blast (FT#3), Smoke Vent (FT#5), Elixir #4….

Also note the style of scenery in eastern side of Caledon Forest (notably around Dominion of Winds area)…..

Just saying:

  • Oriental-type lanterns
  • Eyrie-style holes in the mountain
  • “Air” theme
  • Whole new city that has to be placed SOMEWHERE

I would take bug fixes on the top 10 bugs over a hundred special / holiday events.
Hopefully we get 2 or 3 bug fixes (on old bugs) every 2 weeks as well. Not just bug fixes on new bugs introduced with the new content.

No. Keep dailies account wide.
If they make dailies per character I can already hear the next evolution to this argument….
- Person A has 1 toon so they get 1 daily per day.
- Person B has 5 toons so they get 5 dailies per day.
- Person A now wants 5 dailies on one toon per day.

Just no.

Doctor: “Take a sip of THIS medicine once every 24 hours. (aka cool-down)
It will either:
a) relieve your haemorrhoids for 1 hour (aka effect + duration)
or
b) stop you vomiting for 45 minutes (aka effect + duration)”

Me: “But Doctor, I came to you because I snore…”

THIS is how I experience our RNG. Also the reason I don’t run ANY of the random skills.

Please fix skills/traits bugs before nerfing!

It is very disheartening when you see all the effort and time that is being put into the holiday events (Halloween, Cursed Shores, Wintersday) and each and every class (some more than others!) have a huge list of bugs.

Priorities SHOULD BE:
1. Overall game stability
2. Bug fixes a.s.a.p.
3. New content (events, items, etc)

I completed this episode for my PS a week or two ago.
Played as Guardian.

ALL the NPCs died but Eir seemed to be immortal. She was standing in the middle of a group of Dredge (~30+ Dredge) and just soaked up every hit. She never dropped under 100% health.
So while they were focused on her, I simply shielded myself and ran through the bundle of enemies.
Only 2 followed me to Vyacheslav. Eventually it was quite an easy kill.
