i was wrong sword 1 still roots
I run a sword/ axe and GS build with 21800 hp, 3k attack, 40% crit chance and 56% crit dmg and 2600 armor (without counting sigils on weapons).
my utility skills are (6) healing spring or heal as one (7) signet of renewal or signet of stone (for passive) or frost trap (great cc with axe 5, sword 2 or gs3) (8) signet of the hunt (for passive mostly)(9) QZ (10) Rampage As one or Entangle.
I build around weapon swapping to consistently keep booms
I also use 2 Moa pets for healing (blue and red have the most beneficial buffs in my opinion) or switch one for fern wolf (regen special) depending on the situation.
I also keep around an LB and SB if time calls for it but im mostly melee ranger.

I make this thread to list some issues i see with traits and if you can add a few, it might help Anet try to properly restructure the trait problem.
Too often I run into problems while trying to figure out the most effect build for the class. Traiting for the ranger seems very lacking and unorganized.
-Warriors have 1 single trait to take care of both piercing bullets and rifle skill recharge but for some odd reason, rangers need two separate trait lines for pierce and recharge.
- It seems impossible to trait a dmg dealer with the pet playing only a small role in dps.
Nature Magic
-(I) create a healing spring on death
wont it be better to create a healing spring when health is at 20% or at-least when downed?
-(IV) spirits have twice as much health
Well not many rangers use spirits because of their uselessness and easy to die, so i doubt using making it less easier to kill will be any beneficial.
-(II) booms applied by your pet last longer
others might find this useless especially with the Jungle Stalker(might) and birds(swiftness) but its really only reserved for them seeing that most best don’t have booms. (I don’t know much about other rangers so this trait might be useful to them)
Wilderness Survival
-Is it just me or is this the best trait line? it seems to me that all good traits are found here including some that will perfectly fit in the Skirmishing line.
- examples of skills that will fit perfectly in Skirmishing
– Wilderness Survival (VII) off hand training
– Wilderness Survival (X) martial mastery
– Wilderness Survival (II) healers celerity
Skirmishing
this is were it seems impossible to trait with pet being a small role, i see these skills belonging in BM trait and not Skirmishing
-(I) pets do 30% more damage on critical
(why cant we, the ranger do that rather than pet)
-(V) critical hit grant might to your pets
(why cant critical hit grant might to us)
-(VII) pet gain health on critical
(wont you prefer you gaining health on critical?)
-(X) short bow and longbow skills recharge 20% faster
(this needs to be added to short bow and longbow piercing) and made a single straight.
(I notice rangers will be OP if the skirmishing trait i listed switch from pets to us)
*this thread is mostly opinionated ( I have only spoken to a few rangers that i see either in WvW, guild or pug)

seriously, spirits should be like a warriors banner or the similar utilities other classes have that cannot be killed. Or at-least make the killer suffer from long conditions that makes him lose above average hp.
in case you did not notice, warriors also got
“Increased the velocity of arrows fired from Longbow skills by 30%.”
My thoughts so far on both servers:
Ebay: Respectable and they have alot of talented people on their server. Had my toughest fights against Ebay.
YB: They remind me of CD apart from the fact they do seem to be better at combat overall, however their attitude is the worst I have seen out of any server I have ever versed.
What, worst attitude? we are just excited about getting back into a comfortable bracket. and if you ever fought FA, you wont say we have worst attitude. FA players laugh after they gank you, they also sit or jump on you corpse.
For 3 weeks Yaks were the losing team in T3. Even with small numbers we were able to stop any invaders in our BL.
FA zergs could rush anything and take it in within seconds, this taught Yaks to be very defensive; fortify all keeps, camps, towers and castles. TC turned us into expect tacticians; we are more mobile and cunning than we ever were.
Time spent in T3 has sharpened our horns, strengthen our hides and shaped our rounded cloven hooves into claws. T3 has made Yaks evolve from regular herbivores to seasoned opportunistic predators.
Be prepared T4. Because this week, We Want Some Fresh Meat.
I started play a warrior after the aqua-man patch, as a warrior i use a longbow and rifle to give me that ranger feel. I have notice way less “Obstructed” using a bow on my warrior than my ranger. The only time i get obstructed is when i know im not going to hit the target. So in many ways i can say its more a ranger issue.
Well my new warrior will be waiting for you in wvwvw.
Dear Anet,
It will be very awesome if you can replace my level 80 ranger with a level 80 warrior so at least i know i did not waste my time. I’m very disappointed in this patch and the ranger class.
Thank you,
Jungle Wolf
Well, this very disappointing. I have a strange feeling this a prank or joke and i really hope it is, i know it is….
Currently patching. my fingers crossed hoping i will not be disappointed and even if I’m, I’m sure my warrior alt will make me happy in WVW.
I only wish pets were optional because they are terrible at wvw and dungeons and make rangers seem worse than they really are. The hate the idea that part of our dps is AI dependent. I’m sure most rangers will agree with a way to exchange pet for some buffs if given the option and those that prefer pets can always have them. Ridding some useless skills(shouts and most signets) and replacing them with beneficial ones will also be great.
In my opinion, 30 days will be too harsh but also 7 days is too soft. something like 14-17 days might work best. Or place a WVW restriction/ penalty for transfer.
