Nevermind Found someone in game who explained.

I’m having an intermittent problem, apologies if this is me failing in some way rather than an actual problem. Sometimes when I log in and do an event I will get the success message (and the exp and karma reward) but no personal chest reward and the reward chest on the map will show on the map but won’t load or be accessible for me.

Last night I had a very stubborn patch of this last night that was not fixed by logging out or restarting GW2. The problem occurred on Jormag, Great Jungle Worm, The Shatterer and Shadow Behemoth. I’ve just had it again this morning on Jormag completion but when I logged in earlier I did several event chains, including those that had problems last night and had full rewards.
