Thanks Brumen, I’ll go have a look!
I’m posting this here because, as rangers, you veterans of the game might be able to assist. I found a picture with armor I’ve never seen before and I’m hoping you can help me figure out what it is. Anyone have an idea what armor style this is and where it can be obtained? Thanks to any and all who might be able to help!
I was just reading a thread about ascended cleric gear and saw several replies from devs. I find it interesting that none have commented on this one.
I think the impact that all small guilds currently feel is that we have to kill ourselves to amass a large amount of influence only to unlock something we aren’t even sure a group of maybe 5-10 active players can do. It seems that Anet’s idea of a small guild isn’t as few as 5 people, even though lots of guilds have nearly that few people online at any given time. And this new content was said to be something even a “small guild” could accomplish (after unlocks, of course). Guess that remains to be seen.
Guess I’ll just save up laurels and ectos until I decide which toon I want to outfit with AG. Until then, I don’t mind doing the dailies/monthlies. What I do mind is not being able to do guild missions. And no, I don’t want to join/rep another guild. The people I play with don’t tell me how to spec, won’t prevent me from taking part in something because I don’t use the right utility skills or have the “best” gear, and I trust them. I won’t get that with another guild.
Yeah, I missed your sarcasm font. I have this thing in Chrome and Safari which automatically converts it to Arial. I should really turn that off.
I’ve also been in this before the content launched, but mostly the voice going: “But it’s not out yet, can we wait until it hits and we see what it exactly is before we go to the rooftops?” And the hopeful “maybe it won’t be so bad”.
It’s pretty bad if you look at it from “getting to it immediately”, though I can attribute that to the devs missing the range on “small guilds” and what Influence they should have. They overestimated for the initial unlock cost. Of course, if you take it as a “long term goal” then it’s much less onerous . . . though still, in some cases, over-costed due to that misconception of “small guild” to mean able to field 10-15 people.
In the beginning… we weren’t just spewing gross exaggerations and nonsense entitled QQ.
The unlock cost, while being something that was a bit of slap to the face… pales in comparison to the real argument… the lockout and timelapse this has occured that is bleeding population from smaller guilds into larger ones. Our concerns have since been very much validated by player behavior.
What we have seen is even more guilds requiring 100% repping… even beyond that we have seen guilds wanting to charge people to have access to the reward system… lots of mud being slung from both sides of the argument at each other… tons of entitlement (big guild deserves to see content first blah blah blah)… ridiculous amounts of abuse being leveled on people within in-game chat channels… basically lots of things that we’ve always hated about every mmo ever made that sought to give certain portions of the population “exclusive” content…
I went from being a fairly hardcore player (multiple hours every day like clockwork) to not having logged in since the patch dropped. The air surrounding these guild missions in-game has become almost caustic. People trying to recruit for their guild getting shouted down… lot’s of hoity toity big shot big guild members flexing and slinging their e-junk around like primates hooting at each other… abuse across the board from guilds screaming at non-guildies in the mission for not coordinating well enough…
Right now GW2 isn’t a game I want to be playing… because it isn’t fun to log in and watch people abuse each other. I was looking forward to the guild missions very much… especially the races and puzzle… but the way this has been handled doused my enthusiasm with a bucket of glacial waters. It’s not that I wasn’t prepared to do the work to raise AoW… it’s not that I don’t think larger guilds should have stuff to do together… it’s that the way Anet handled the release of this content was very reminiscent of a monkey kittening a football. It’s ugly… invites elitism and exclusion… encourages player abuse… and creates stratification based on haves and have nots.
I’m sure it will cool down eventually… maybe things will go back to the way they were before… maybe Anet will fix it… I doubt it… and gamestop isn’t so far away that I’ll be willing to watch a few thousand morons abuse each other for too long.
Thanks for posting this, Blue.
After 29 pages of this thread, I’m compelled to ask why a few small guilds per server, such as my guild with about 8-10 actively playing members, don’t seek out other small family type guilds, compare influence and number unlocks and discuss merging with the most influential? It wouldn’t be a “large guild” mentality so much as one small family helping another so both or more of them reach the same common goal in the end. And the chances are astronomical that neither guild would ask for payment, application, interview, or any other ridiculous process to join. Not to mention, we’d all have someone to run regular content with as well. We small guilds are all in the same situation. Why not help one another instead of buck the new content or continue to rehash the same points over another 29 pages and hope by some miracle that Anet will respond or even READ this entire thread? We all want to play the new content at some point, I’m sure. So, we can either sit here and reiterate our points over and over again, subject ourselves to abuse of all types from people who don’t understand what we’re trying to express…OR, we can band together and help each other. Isn’t that what “community” is all about?
You do not need a guild of 100 players to do this! A guild of 10-20 can do this without a hitch.
I’m curious, not trying to bash you . . . but have you done it yet yourself? If so then I can at least reassure my guild a bit.
Small guilds can grind cash and buy influence. Bargain basement prices, 50k Unlock is YOURS for only 100 G’s!
Or alternatively you can ignore the “new content”. If ArenaNet realises people just aren’t prepared to jump through those kind of hoops maybe they will adjust future updates. Maybe not though.
see, here’s the gist of it … that horrible word: grind.
thanks, but i left a game i positively enjoyed (rift) because i was flat-out sick of the grind. so. the only other alternative for me, and those like me, is to accept never doing this content? yeah, THAT’S heartening!
Well said!

Wow, it is much worse than I thought as well.
I like a challenge, long range goals, and a sense of accomplishment.
But for small guilds everything is locked for a long, if not indefinite, period of time.
The influence cost is one factor.
The fact that it is locked at all is another.
To have it structured such that you must follow a rigid upgrade path is beyond comprehension.“This stacks so you can finish Guild Bounty right away if you have 75 × 4 + 30 = 330 k influence.”
It is waaaay worse than I thought it would be…..even for the mega guilds that have all the influence in the world it’s going to take 9 weeks (at the very least) to unlock all the guild missions….now throw in the small guilds that don’t earn a 20k influence a week and it’s going to take them infinitely longer (exaggeration) to get be able to have access to all the missions.
I was looking forward to having a guild oriented goal/mechanism in the game but now my hopes and dreams have been taken up by Anet and smashed. Guess, in order to not have to wait a year I should just lose myself in a mega guild.
Can’t wait to see how inaccessible they make actual guild halls to small guilds…..here’s a cardboard box, go live in the gutter in the shadow of the 500 member guild’s castle.
I’m in a small guild, too, so I feel your pain. But your last sentence made me chuckle.
Glass cannon or go home. Real men don’t need no toughness. We don’t need no vitality. Healing shouts, banners? Why not just wear a tutu.
Hammers are for carpenters. Drop your unicorn wand and pick up some axes and a sword. Warhorn because real men sound off.
This isn’t about being the best. It’s about being the manliest. This is the Mancleaver build.

Look at my build. Look at yours. Now look at mine again. You could have my build. But you need to be a real man.
If you are female, none of my comments make any sense. Real men don’t have to make sense.
We just have to run fast, hit hard and make it back to our wives in time for dinner. Wham, bam, thank you maam.
Mancleaver.
For Men.
LMAO…nice!
I like it when my Charr Guardian bf makes me dinner before I get home from work. That’s how female warriors roll!
I’ve heard it from countless people: Thieves are OP. I’m so tired of hearing this. I hear people complain that thieves use various little hacks, which in turn make them overpowered in PvP and WvW. I’d personally LOVE to be OP, but as it stands now, I have yet to find the most perfect build for WvW, not that there is one perfect build. There are hacks being abused by all professions in all aspects of the game. But when you know that someone is using a hack to help them win/stay alive when the majority of the players use just using what they’re given in skills and know-how to play the game, it cheapens things in a sense.
(Edited because my brain thought one thing and my fingers typed something completely different hee hee)

I personally cant play without feline grace, I think it is just too powerful.
I actually give up executioner for it, with a 0/25/30/15/0 build, and it makes you very hard to kill between constant dodging and tons of regen in stealth.
Not having Mug sucks, but like I said, feline grace is awesome.
As for gear, I use mostly berserker with a few valk pieces so my HP isnt terrible. I usually have about 15k HP, 50% crit chance, 101% crit damage, 3200attack.
Sorry I couldnt check out your build, bad link.
This! Thank you, Stx for your advice. I am a level 80 thief and after trying numerous builds, gear, weapons, etc., I still couldn’t find a good mix. I used your suggestions last week, upgraded my armor (went with Knights Emblazened, though) and have been having the best time killing stuff. A million thanks to you and everyone else who put in their comments and advice.
This is sad. I’m fortunate enough to be in a guild that makes regular runs through AC (and others) and they always ask the entire guild “Anyone in for…?” I remember going through AC for the first time at about lvl 50-60 (can’t remember exactly). Regardless, how are lower levels going to master dungeons if they keep running up against elitist groups who won’t let them join? Most people learn by doing, not by reading the wiki every single day. Good luck, OP!!!
Why do people keep using this word on the forums to describe things that have nothing to do with cute little cats………….
whenever you swear or use another word that the filter feels is offensive it replaces it with “Kitten”
here are some examples, kitten the kittening kitteners.
Reallllly? kitten
That explains SOOOO much
That’s hilarious!!! Thanks for making me laugh today!
^^ This!! I have reported one guy already and he’s STILL out there. I have him on my friends list so I can watch his activity… Frostgorge then Sparkfly Fen, etc. within minutes. It’s very frustrating when you report an obvious bot but you still see them out there farming. Wish there was a way they could eliminate the ability to jump from node to node, mushroom to mushroom. But I guess there is really no way to do that. Still gnaws at me.
I like my armor simple and in black so I went with this look which I think looks sexy.
LOVE this one! Very well done!
I’m new as well…thanks to everyone who posted these great suggestions! Coming from another MMO that does things way way differently, this world is a bit strange and (like the OP said) daunting. But it’s a beautiful world with so many awesome possibilities. Can’t wait to get home tonight and log in!
