Funny. I actually find mesmer the best class if you want one that is good in pve and pvp at the same time.

Dont care about the rest of the dungeon but for some strange reason i am addicted to doing lupicus. Maybe cause you cant skip or cheese him as much as people do with other bosses. Its a really enjoyable fight for me.

Didnt witness any resetting, getting invulnerable (except for phase changes ofc) and one-shotting. Could it be you were between phase 2 and 3 several times because after initiating phase 3 you allowed him to life-leech back to transition between phase 2 and 3 ?

Hm the thing with rangers would be grubs spawning on the pet. So not kiling the grubs then would result in giving him high stacks of empower, making the encounter quite a bit harder if you get hit. Anyone here having some good advices ? Would it be doable with a dead pet or does he still spawn grubs on them ?

Tbh i didnt bother mentioning ele cause their advantages seemed obvious to me and i was more concentating on showing why the classes OP mentioned are also able to carry groups. As someone who plays ele a lot in dungeons i agree with you. No need for sad faces :-)

Play however you want. If it works for you in pve stick to it. Just dont expect to be as efficient as someone who swaps attunements when you are doing more difficult content like dungeons, wvw or spvp. For example in a dungeon if you dont swap attunements you are like someone using only 1 hand to carry something heavy. Dont expect others to applaud you for making it more difficult for you and your group.

“I play the game the way i want” is a bad excuse. Ofc you can try to bring down a wall by using a spoon. If you are clever though you will adapt and use what benefits you more (And works way faster. Like a wrecker’s ball…) It wont exactly break you a leg to switch out an utility. And maybe your party wants to play the game the way they want aka not fail a dozen times due to someone unwilling to use an utility that might save their lives.

Sadly I believe rangers/necros/engis/thieves aren’t going to be anybody’s answer.
Imo, its really the player that makes and breaks the encounter. How many people swap utilities and weapons between fights ?
As a ranger you can use entangle to keep enemies away from downed people, use search and rescue to let your pet rezz allies, support with healing spring, use signet of renewal for aoe condition removal. Use axe offhand #5 to block projectiles (like the small spiders ones in ac), stun enemies before their initial attacks with shortbow #5 ( extremely underused on breeders in ac), stun and knowkdown from gs. Longbow #4 for knockback. Ice and spike trap to slow enemies pursuing your skipping group or a player running because hes low on health. Elite spirit for rezzing players (yes even that one can save lives). Wolf pet for aoe fear.
Necros: Fear to keep enemies from downed people, drop well of darkness on downed players to blind enemies while rezzing, spectral grasp to pull enemies from downed players away, well of power in condition heavy places, plague signet as well. Signet of Undeath to rezz 3 downed people. Well of blood for healing. Elite skill plague form for aoe blind.
Engis can use projectile reflection with shield, glue shot to keep melee from reaching downed players with pistols or net shot with rifle, rifle knockback/throw mines or netshot turret. Provide burst healing with healing turrets aoe blast, or use medkit (throwable when traited). Healing field from elixir gun. Toolkit magnet for pulling enemies from downed payers, slick shoes for knockdown. Throw elixir r for reviving allies, smoke bomb to make enemies unable to hit downed, big old bomb for blowout. Elixir s for a 3 sec invincibility rezz. Provide stun and healing as well as immobilize with your elite supply drop.
Thieves are extremely useful for stealth rezzing (blinding powder, shadow refuge) or blind rezzing against melee with black powder, stun from pistol #4 i use all the time in ac to interrupt breeders, it also works on any channeled ability, even the deadeyes/inquest permastunner in arah iirc. Scorpionwire to pull enemies, tripwire for knockdown, needle trap and devourer venom for immobilize, smoke screen for projectile blocking or aoe stealth with shortbow 2. If you time it right you can lock down an enemy for 2 sec, wait 1 sec and stun him again with swords tactical strike to allow others to rezz someone downed. Projectile reflection with dancing daggers, locking down enemies with basilisk venom.
All this is mostly stuff you dont even need to trait for. No you can not use all of this tools at the same time. You need to think ahead. I swap my weapons and utilities according to the encounter that lies ahead and the quality of the group i am running with.
tl;dr The profession played by a player playing cleverly can carry the group. You got the tools to carry a group on any class

OP pretty much summed up my personal opinion of WvW.
The sad thing is: I bought SWTOR for the pve and it turned me from casual pvp into hardcore pvp (not going to argue about the quality of its pvp). I bought GW2 for WvW/PvP and its flaws turned me from hardcore pvp back into casual.
From my personal experience i can say everyone i know bought GW2 mainly for the WvW. My own impression prelaunch was that Anet intended to make an esport of spvp, but considered WvW the “endgame” for the majority of people. The whole design of WvW with its pve ruleset seems to emphasize this.

LotRO: Hunter class is ranged with some melee (iirc) but the pet class actually is Loremaster doing about 30% of his total damage from meleeing. Probably thats why i got no problem with playing my ranger in melee :-)
[Also Sniper/Gunslinger in SWTOR was almost completely ranged apart from a knife stab. (I know its stretching the term ranger a bit)]

I keep seeing on here you are supposed to be able play the game the way you want. If I don’t want to join a group than I should be able to have that choice if the above in your overall goal.
Pls i would like all people who use this quote to stop a moment and consider where the limit to this kind of “I want” philosophy is. You cant always have what you want. Not even in a virtual world. There are people in this game who dont want to dodge boss attacks in dungeons. Should they also be able to play the game they want ? Should a group consisting of 5 of these players be able to do any dungeon and reap the rewards ?

Most everyone that is saying this stuff is easy are going at it with Lvl80 players with Lvl80 Exotic gear/runes/gems. Since there are no Exotics available for AC story/Explorable players (read Lvl35 for explorable) while your gear is ‘down scaled’ it’s still way better than the Blues/Greens available to actual Lvl35 players.

For a few copper, outfit yourself with some actual Lvl35 White gear from a vendor and see how easy it is eh? I’ve yet to see a “gimped” team of 80’ players or true Lvl35 team video showing it can be done. (or even cheaper – go NUDE – who would argue then?)
Ac is mostly about knowing the dungeon mechanics. My lvl 35 ranger (aka “worst class”) had no problems doing it and survived better than most lvl 80s. The burrow part of path 3 can be easy even with an inexperienced (i.e. slower goup who doesnt know where burrows will spawn) group once you set your teammates on the burrows and do some kiting yourself to protect the collectors. I’d say that in AC 80% of the dungeon is about knowing encounters and slotting utilities/weapons according to requirements plus coordinating your group (by simply marking the target everyone is supposed to hit). You do not need anyone to be level 80 to do this dungeon.
Also an entire, full, five man party can’t take down a simple ascalonian monk in AC.

I heard something about using feedback on top of burrows. That was either to dmg burrows or the breeders when adds are spawned. Not sure. Dont forget to use time warp if your party needs a dps boost. I know these are utilities and not weapons. But sword and gs have already been mentioned.

Using only 1, 2 and 3. Next 2 abilities are on q and e. Heal and utilities are on my 4 additional mouse buttons. For ele my fire attunement is on press mouse wheel, water on r, air and earth on c and v.
Having a gaming mouse even if it has only 4 additional buttons is something i can really recommend. Especially in PvP but also in more difficult pve encounters this helps a lot.

Thief: Make sure you dont stealth your whole part, especially in boss encounters this might reset fight.
Against normal mobs you can also use pushback to get them away from downed players.

Its not really a “rising his sword animation”. Hes pulling his hand back like hes about to hit someone or throw something with his whole arm held straight at hip-height. Comparable to a disc thrower. Combined with him standing still this may help you discern between his usual attacks and the one you need to dodge.

x/P skill 4 : Spammable stun. If you ever need to interrupt a heal or stomp this is the skill to go. And no it doesnt last very long. Its a tactical skill.

The Holy Trinity as Anet likes calling it has always been there. Just because Anet said they dont have it doesnt mean its true. What else is rezzing a downed player if not healing him ? Only difference is that the mechanic of healing is no longer tied to a certain class that way. Everyones a healer now. Or rather everyone can choose to be one. Add in the currently existing support builds and you got your healers back, just a bit more watered down.

Mainly tips for staf users:
-While channeling Staff Fire 5 in WvW switch to earth attunement to get protection if you slotted Arcane Power V. Helps if you get targetted while channeling. Also:
-You can start casting Staff Fire 5 on the edge of a wall in WvW and then use Lightning Flash to teleport away into safety while channeling the spell. Same for standing on even ground.
-If you need to run away from something, turn your camera and use Air 5, Water 4 and Earth 4 on the area behind you to slow your enemies (PvE and PvP).
-The tornado Elite is extremely useful when you want to get multiple people off siege. You can also use it to throw them down a nearby cliff :-)
For d/d: double left-click twice on the screen (not clicking on an enemy) is the safest way to remove target-lock on an enemy if you want to get away fast.
Last thing: tele-finishing is awesome.

About the dmg from Meteor Shower i can attest to it hitting my ele with about 1.6k toughness (PVT + clerics exotics) for 4k dmg, so i guess 6k isnt impossible considering peoples habit of using berserker gear in WvW.
You may want to mention the ability to swap attunements halfway through your dodge (didnt see it mentioned but may be wrong). Very useful.
(PvE)(0/10/0/30/30) I am currenty using a superior sigil of life on my staff and for food a bowl of saffron-mango icecream. Heavy support but i really like it even though lots of people claim healing power is not very useful to stack. Healing 2.5k on swap to water is quite nice :-) For me its a way to make up for the random quality of group members you get when pugging dungeons. Not been using it much in WvW. Saddly theres no way of influencing whom your heals hit in tightly packedd zergs :-(

First my full sympathies for your situation. I know how it feels to be heavily outnumbered. GH was in the same position for a very long time (free fall from tier 2 to 8 since start of the weeklies). I assure you i do not enjoy the current situtation which is why i have stayed out of WvW since sunday.
But as Hyung said, in the last weeks before Xaoc joined our server we were fighting each other again and again because we were quite evenly matched. (Dont take this as granted but my personal opinion is that Xaoc will leave GH before paid server transfers will go live. In that case we may be facing each other again soon and on way more even terms.) Current score is roughly 360k vs 70k (RoF) vs 50k (WSR). Just to set some facts straight. In terms of world completion its a serious annoyance i am sure, but you dont need to hold even a single point to get badges. There are ways to have some small scale battles for supply camps etc.

Bosses arent OP once you learn to read their animation. Dodging, kiting, LoSing. Using better gear. Dungeons and especially bosses should be a challenge. Fight Lupicus or Kohler once and its annoying. Fight them several times and it becomes fun (at least for me).

Cantrips are a certain set of utilities. Armor of Earth, Cleansing Fire, Mist Form and Lightning Flash are Cantrips. Look for the skills in your utility bar. Below the name of the skill written in yellow is the category of the utiliy (also yellow).
