Treaherne is pretty much just the Kormir of Guild Wars 2 anyway.
I don’t mind him, but then I have a rather useful tendency to mentally block out annoying characters (works fantastically for moe girls in anime). I think it’s a case of a character being badly written into someone else’s story, and there’s a reason why people don’t like Mary Sue OC’s in fan fiction. He feels like that to me the moment you meet him.
Perhaps, but there is a lot more to Guild Wars than dragon attacks. As it stands, having any of the dragon attacks is a pretty convenient tie-in to what is going on already. As in add one area apiece to the Shiverpeaks, Crystal Desert etc etc and bam you have your big dragon fight. IMO dragons are probably the most contrived, boring thing GW 2 had to offer; whereas in the first game you just got a (very) good introduction to Glint – surprising as the story in Prophecies wasn’t that awesome – and that was it. Here its dragons, dragons and more dragons, and even if they’re integral to the plot there can be the argument that a breather from them could be a good thing.
But then to be honest I can’t stand dragons in this case. It’s pretty much the case of playing a three legged race to level 80 and at the end is some overgrown lizard who throws a bunch of zombies at you with a Saturday morning cartoon villain laugh and little else. Imagine that for Jormag, Kralkatorik and Primordius in turn and things can get very stale. Essentially – personally I’m tired of dragons in fantasy games I suppose.
Having Elona or Cantha or possibly the Aztec-themed continent meant to be in Utopia might just be a little of a breather. In some regard it might be the case of we’re in chapter one, chapters 2-9 might be a little repetitive in terms of storytelling so you go for an interlude in the style of “and whilst this was happening, this is what these guys were doing.” My opinion, but there you have it.
…Kirito uses greatswords? :s
Probably need either theif or ranger to use his “special” dual wielding skill, probably a thief unless you want a sylvari hound called Leafa or something.
Might want to consider a sylvari for the pointy ears too

I wasn’t able to finish the scavenger hunt as it was bugged non stop. Somehow despite being only a couple of days long the final event was just a nightmare, and I wish they hadn’t made the whole thing a three hour zerg fest of farming invisible mobs. Everything was either rushed or bugged to oblivion and not nearly as fun as the last event.
I love the game and really want to be constructive and supportive. But it comes to a point of “please sort your kitten out kkthx.” (and yes I did the events all the way through and made 30g off of them).
It seems that even if they in theory could extend phase one, they wouldn’t be able to extend phase 2 anyway.
From what I understand they weren’t able to find a good fix to the problem, so they removed it. Not sure if they’ll hand out the rewards to the people who couldn’t complete it, but I doubt it some how >.>.
Sucks as so many people lost out on content due to chain bugged npcs, oh well.
Some constructive criticism…
Even if this might not tie in directly to the Miyani investigation, I (and others) have found the relevant information lacking. Personally I have no interest in facebook nor twitter. I actually loathe these sites with a passion, so having crucial information posted there and relying on kind people to rely this crucial information is a bit silly. I’d like future events to be detailed here at least, as to be honest a lot of time it wasn’t clear what was going on.
For example, on the event on Saturday night for me I was on an overflow server. Some karka popped up, we killed them, then had two moments of the big…crab thing before it apparently bugged or disappeared. Now we don’t know what’s meant to happen, so having some indecation would be nice. As much as people can search around, we’re not mind readers. We don’t know what’s meant to be going on, so a lot of the time these one time events feel like a bugged beta test. Again, having crucial information not posted on twitter would help. Well, help me anyway.
For the investigation, even if it was impossible to phase 2 it seemed a little pointless to extend phase 1 regardless. This isn’t to say I’m not thankful you did, but having people camp Noll, the largos or whoever in the plethora of bugged npcs and never finishing the event is tiresome. Not because we’re not getting a reward, but because we’re lacking part of the story. And the events don’t tell you anything, so these investigations are all we had to go on.
Time sensitive, one time events just don’t work. I’m sorry, it’s a nice idea and I’ll admit they were enjoyable. But if people aren’t seeing mobs, dc’ing, have a clue what is going on it’s not the best thing ever. Having personal instances might help I guess with this, or just not npcs who are there temporily and can become bugged. Due to the fact there’s actually bugged events in the world (the shark skill point challenge in Sparkfly Fen springs to mind) it must be clear that this isn’t the best thing ever.
All in all, thank you for the event. I’ll admit that I’m extremely disappointed that I couldn’t complete the quest, but will hope the handling of things gets better. Especially as this weekend, as said, probably didn’t leave a great impression on trial people. You guys can do a lot better!
Given that Anet were kind enough to extend the Halloween event, it would be nice if they did the same with phase 2 of this one.
Personally I was attempting to do the quests straight after the first event, and even then on my server (Desolation) Noll was bugged. Granted I wasn’t going to camp the place, but I get the impression it was bugged fully after what? An hour or so? I might have that wrong, but the few times I went back he was bugged, and it sounds like the sylvari in Kessex Hills and the largos were bugged too.
Now, it’s not that I really mind a time sensitive event, but having a quest incompleteable and then being told “sorry” is a bit disappointing. When they said they were extending phase 1 I thought it would make sense to do the same with the second one. I’m just hoping they find a way to let everyone have a chance to complete it.
Aside from that, both of the one time events and the new zone are very nice.
I’d hate to contradict you, but along with guardian I’ve found necromancer to be the most tanky profession I’ve tried ( so far necro and mesmer at lv 80, a warrior at lv 50 and a guardian at lv 22).
If it helps, my necro is geared in a mix of Valkyrie and berserker gear, running a dual dagger power/ vampiric build (something like 20/20/0/30/0) and uses wells. If you use well of darkness and/ or the blind on the plague elite that can save you a few times. Plus death shroud of course. The part which gets really annoying is the lack of condition removal; even if I use the heal that consumes conditions and the staff #4 ability, in Orr they really like to stack conditions >.>.
I don’t really want to say stuff you know already, so if anything there sounds like that I apologise. But necros can be very sturdy and I love mine almost as much as I love my mesmer.
However, to answer your question I’d probably recommend a guardian. Bear in mind mine is only low level, but they seem pretty good at killing and AoE and have really good condition removal. It’s fun, but I’ll probably stand that necros are more fun :p
