So I’ve been away from this game for quite a while. I’m a very casual player, strictly PvE, and I’m wanting to start a new character to level. I’m wondering what profession is currently the best for solo PvE? And when I say “best” I mean high survivability but with decent dps as well. I like fast kills but not at the expense of getting killed every two seconds. lol
I have a level 80 warrior that was pretty easy. I just saw there were changes to the warrior profession recently so maybe they aren’t as good now?
I have a hunter that’s in the 50’s. That’s the profession I typically play in games since they’re usually best for solo play. But I’m pretty sick of them at this point.
When this game first launched, I attempted a Necro but seems like they had issues in the beginning and I never got her past level 20.
I was really wanting to try a light armor class profession this time around. Since they’re the squishiest, I’ve never really played one that much. Elementalists have always interested me, but seems like I’ve read they are the worst for solo leveling.
Anyway, just curious. Thanks for any replies!
I don’t think there really is a variety of events though. It’s either timed bell choir, timed jumping puzzle or combat that requires a group. If they incorporated hunt/gather quests, games like 9 Rings (GW1), etc. THEN it would have a variety.
In this GW2 Wintersday event, if you’re not good at (or just don’t like) timed events or group required dungeons, you’re out of luck.
I’m not saying Anet did a bad job (they did great in fact) but the events are only for certain types of players, not all. The players who enjoy them are certainly in the majority it seems, but events like these should include a little something for every play-style in my opinion. Especially a themed event that’s supposed to be a special holiday treat for Anet’s customers.
For what little it’s worth…I agree with the OP. I know alot of people like this Wintersday event, and I’m not bashing on Anet or anything. But I just found it all rather ‘meh’. I liked the Halloween event better with Pumpkin Carving and Mad King Says. This Wintersday feels like a bunch of dungeons and timed events/games. I actually really enjoy difficult jumping puzzles, but not timed ones.
I know it’s personal preference, but I just think Wintersday would have been more fun and accommodating for ALL players if the activities weren’t all adrenaline-fueled button mashing contests and/or reliant on a group. One hunt/gather type quest for Wintersday goodies shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
All I’m doing this Wintersday is running around explorable zones collecting presents and running from killer dolls. lol
I’m getting drops from white-named critters.
Now I’m sure there’s something wrong with the drop system.
Me too! I got a nice green from a little rabbit that I accidentally caught in my AOE. I thought I was hallucinating. o_O
I hope everyone posting here is sending Anet emails (multiple would be better) as well. Not sure what good it may do, but I would assume they’d pay more attention to individual complaints flooding their office than those forcefully lumped together here which they may never look at.
I wish people would stop talking about how good Warriors have it….Anet’s ‘solution’ to helping the other classes will end up being to make the Warrior class suck as bad they do. >_<
my charr is cute and fuzzy and noms salad people XD. but yeah the Kodan ( i believe you were referring to) would be an awesome addition as a playable race, as well as the largos, er whatever those underwater people are called.
I was thinking Kodans at first, but I worry about the possibility for customization. I mean, they’re polar bears so no changing their fur. And they don’t have hair on their heads, so no hairstyles. I would think that would be off-putting for most players…having a Kodan that looked like every other Kodan in the game. And considering the same armor skins based on levels, they’ll be alot of identical players out there.
and after that we can add the pandas!
it’s brilliant.
I actually would like some more animalistic races that are cute. I mean we have charr and asura which kind of resemble dogs and monkeys respectively, but what about cute cat people and such?
Charr look more like dogs than cats??? Have you even LOOKED at the female Charrs? They’re definitely the ‘cat people’ of Guild Wars. They’re just not scrawny like Khajiits.
That being said, I’d love more animalistic races too…well, any type of additional race would please me so long as it wasn’t too similar to any existing race (or a Panda). GW2 has all other fantasy MMORPGs beat in the race department as far as I’m concerned. Sure, some people think Slyvari and Asura are the respective equivalent of Elves and Gnomes because of their cultures, but at least Anet DID make an effort to do something different.
Personally, I’d love to see Centaurs be added to the playable races. Although if they allowed customization of the horse part of the body as well, I’m guessing some people would attempt to make it like My Little Pony.
Please no pink or purple color options, Anet. XD
The charr race isn’t even remotely cute or appealing. I don’t know why anyone would play them.
We need some cute animal races that actually have some form of appeal. Pandas would be ok but it would be a bit of a ripoff, maybe something similar though.
Get those bear people already in game and make them cuter perhaps. The ones that talk slowly and have strange names.
Don’t get me started on the salad people.
=O What’s with the race hate, bro? I love Charr and Sylvari…well, all races actually. I’m least fond of Asura and don’t play them, but I don’t say ‘I don’t know why anyone would play them’.
I get the desire some people may have for a cute and cuddly race. I don’t see the appeal of that for a game like this, but I get some people like that sort of thing. I think the ‘cutest’ race they could implement at this point that would make sense would be the Skritt. But I guess their cuteness is subjective since they are basically rats. lol

I can’t believe anyone would drop money in this game for gems. You get everything you need just from playing the game, there is absolutely no reason to buy gems.
If you are dropping $50/month into this game when it isn’t needed, perhaps you should give some of that wasted money to charity.
I find it sick how some players can proudly boast how much they spend in the gem store. Like most players, I haven’t spent a dime in the gem store and never intend to.
So you like being judgemental and telling others what to do with their money much?
I used my big pile of gems to upgrade to delux, buy 8 more char slots, open all bag and bank slots, and enjoy a few costumes. Games are my entertainment. this game in its total expense for me has cost less than a few dinners out at a nice restraunt. Did you buy the most inexpensive used car you could find and give the saving from that purchase to charity? Filling my gas tank these days costs me over $100 (big tank/high cost area). Most of us who live in the western world have expenses that are so frivolous it’s crazy if compared to the needy of the planet.
It is all well within my budget. I don’t smoke, drink booze, drive 500 miles a week burning gas unneeded. I live a very frugal lifestyle except for my fun gaming hobby (is it a vice, that’d be cool I need one) Whos to say whose bloated budget is sicker?
Do you spend over $100 a month on cable TV? on movies? on ice creams? on anything frivolous (i.e. not food or shelter)? – if so you make me sick for being a hypocrite. if not it’s still none of your business!
Why not post your charitable givings so far this year along with your anual earmings so we can see what % you give to demonstrate to us all how superior you really are? Tell us of your volunteer efforts too while you are at it. Served in yours countries military at all in times of natural disaster or war – tell us. Ever saved someones life – please do tell. To most adults $50 in entertainment expense is chump change and I for one will not allow your sense of outrage at a laughably small expenditure bother me one iota.
I’m not buying this moral superiority crap at all! Good day sir or mam.
Amen! You got my point across much better than what I was able to. lol

How much money do you spend on dining out per month? Going to movies? Bars? I could go on and on.
What people choose to spend their money on is their business and their right. If someone blows $200 a week eating out when they could just cook meals at home for $50, I’m not going to call them stupid. I’ve spent roughly $300 in the gem store to date primarily to buy expensive dyes for my 12 alts and just whatever else strikes my fancy. This is a large part of where my enjoyment from the game comes from. If it seems like an unwise way to spend money, then don’t follow my example. I guarantee I could find purchases in your life I deem “unnecessary” but I won’t criticize you for it. You should learn just because you don’t agree with something that doesn’t make it stupid before you judge others on where they choose to spend THEIR money.
