I’m not even that upset on the cash I dropped for the keys. I’m not even mad at ANet. I am just done because I’ve seen this kind of tactic many times before and it always, always, always leads down a dark path of hardcore cash grabbing and imbalanced in-game economies. It is what it is.

You are not guaranteed to receive a rare item after opening a Black Lion Chest. You have a chance to get a unique/rare item. Some people are luckier than others. The Halloween skins are tradeable, so if you aren’t able to get them in a Black Lion Chest, you can obtain them on the Trading Post.

I appreciate your feedback.

So i wonder, if ArenaNet’s philosophy on this Halloween event is to allow some players profit from the other’s gold, or in some cases RL money.

What about those who can’t be online at the perfect time for the event, and have to patch hours later, when the market is already inflated.
Why can’t the dev just sell the costumes, or weapon skins for gems, instead of putting them inside the gamble chest, i’d perfectly happy to pay for that.

Let’s just call the BLC the Gamble Chest from now on, and the mystic forge the Mystic Roulette.

It seems player must be lucky to have fun lately. Or grind a bloody amount of gold in Orr, and no other way.

Who needs to grind a bunch of gold in Orr? The bots do that for you, maybe we’re looking at this wrong and ANet wants people to buy gold so they can get limited festival items!

Thanks for letting us know up front the “chance” was so low. That’s definitely revolutionizing the industry. And not only do we not get any kind of warning on the futility of our efforts, but we get a nice semi-snarky reply from a moderator to boot.

Typical tactics of the cash shop games.

Cash shop games? These are skins you’re “paying” for, not stats. Le sigh.

Cash shop game is correct. The cash shop is how they generate their revenue.

Here’s hoping they do something to remedy this. I can personally say without question Anet will have a much harder time prying non expansion money away from me now.

They won’t and can’t do anything. It’s not how F2P’s operate which ANet has shown they understand that, even the silent treatment is exactly the same as the others.

The reason they won’t/can’t do anything is that they either have to A) Give away skins to everyone who bought keys, not going to happen or refund everyone who purchased x amount of gems. Neither of which are likely, in fact a response on the issue other than a short “The drop rate is low because they are unique” reply will be highly unlikely.

This is the last straw, Anet and Guild Wars 2 have been a bit disappointing but this definitely takes the cake. Even if these skins are rare, people spending hard earned money shouldn’t have to feel like crap when they see NOTHING Halloween-themed drop.

This is what the trolls seem to forget. Most people here have played a few F2P games and know the normal way they do business but expected ANet to be above those practices. I personally was giving them a chance because GW1 was so great. GW2 is a fun game, but cash shops leave a bad taste in my mouth, I was hoping for something different but now that I see it’s exactly the same and have lost any desire I had to continue fueling this. Getting out before it gets even worse this time.

That Nexon influence strikes again. The work that went in to the event was amazing, but a little warning about the event skins being a ridiculously low drop rate would have nice.

People spending half of what they paid for the game on a chance for a single holiday themed item? I have never had any problem buying the costumes. But this was really shady business. I’m hoping it’s a bug or misplaced decimal point because this isn’t ArenaNet’s style at all.

It doesn’t matter. They’re not going to refund everyone who just blew more than what the game costs to buy out right, even the mistake will be covered up and the backlash taken. I feel you, it is exactly a Nexon tactic.

On the page that details the event a message of:

each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!

which i thought meant each chest gave a skin just the weapon type was random.

Now this is my thought wrong or not. Anet never gave any other info on drop rate. So by not doing so they have tricked many into spending real cash on gems for keys(thankfully i had some to test).

this and the confusion just turned me off playing for now. it even made me make my first post.

my 2c

I feel similar. I’ve played other F2P games, and I have liberally supported ANet with gems since GW2 went live. Now I feel like I’m playing the same old cash grabbing F2P games. I have better ways to spend my time than supporting a game where the devs won’t even respond to the complaints anyway.

I bought enough keys to open over 30 chests. Not a single Halloween item. If you’re running an event and expect people to pay $20 for 10 keys, you should be able to get something, that or just put the items in the store so there is no gambling with real money. I feel like I’m playing every other F2P now, that was disappointing.
