tl;dr: fixed black screen issue by removing router. Need firewall. Suggestions?
Well, before I begin, let me start by saying this worked for myself and some others. I will not say it will work for you, because I do not know that.
I’ve been having issues as of late with my game crashing randomly to a black screen. Can still see cursor and hear music. Nothing I did would fix the issue. Disabled AA in the nvidia control panel and the power options as I’ve read in anet’s support site, rolled back to non-beta drivers, uninstalled again and cleared out any trace of previous drivers, reinstalled again, monitored temperatures, nothing. So I had given up hope and dealt with the shenanigans. After reading some more I found someone had removed their router from their network and that alleviated the black screen issue. So I gave this a try and it worked.
My only problem now is that I do not have a router, thus leaving me without a firewall. My question would be does anyone have any recommendations for a software level firewall, until the issue is resolved on ArenaNets side? I’d prefer not to use AVG or Norton or other “heavyweight” software, would much prefer something a bit more lightweight. I haven’t used ZoneAlarm in some time, and really, I don’t even know if that’s still a good firewall, or was to begin with.
Anyways, thanks.
Don’t touch the stuff. Not because of performance, just personal preference.
Well almost all of the FX processors are Black Edition with unlocked multiplier… So why bother buying one if you are not going to overclock it^_^ when you O/C they perform quite well for what they worth tho
I also mention this game almost unplayable on Phenom II’s.
Phenom II x4 965 here. No issues. Well, occasional lag, but nothing near “unplayable”.
Nope. Probably in the future, though.
ups it is in the diag. Try using an older version driver. Check this:

I tried rolling back to 296.10 which is what I was using in the last stress test before launch and did not experience the issue. Thinking that because I did not experience the issue with these drivers, is the reason I went back. Then it happened again. So I just moved back up to the beta drivers as they provide me with a huge FPS boost.
Before we begin, yes I did see the post both in the support section of the website and here on the forums. I have tried both and neither has worked.
And now: I get random black screens. No set time in between. Could be 1 minute, could be 4 hours. I have uninstalled drivers, reinstalled, uninstalled drivers again, sweeped them out with a program, and reinstalled them again, double checked my temperatures just to make sure (even though I was correct in knowing) that it was not a heat issue, and even uninstalled, cleaned out any remaining files, and reinstalled Guild Wars 2. This is the only game that it happens in, so I do not believe that it is a hardware related issue on my end, or anyone else with this particular issue end.
I’ll go ahead and attach my dxdiag file, and have no crash log since my reinstall yesterday. And yes I have gotten the black screen since then.
Any suggestions or advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: Forgot to mention, for those who do not read the DxDiag.txt. nvidia GTX 570 video card on beta driver version 306.02 , AMD Phenom II X4 965 Process, 8GB DDR3 1333.
