Black Screen Issues [merged]

Is it possible for the game client to corrupt GPU driver files? I’m asking this because I have a weird case.

Back story: About 2 months ago, I started getting random black screens where the screen would flicker a couple times, and then turn black with the sound still looping, forcing me to reboot. It got so bad that I couldn’t even load up Windows without crashing.

So, I booted in safemode, deleted all my drivers and reinstalled the Nvidia drivers. BOOM. I was able to play for 2 months straight without a single problem.

Then about 4 days ago, the same problems came back out of no where. Black screen → sound loop → freeze → reboot. Windows 7 would crash immediately after boot. So I booted in safemode again and reinstalled the GPU drivers again. Now Windows is working fine.

But now I’m afraid to open GW2 because I don’t want the same thing to happen.

I just completed it twice and the first run gave me 15, and the second run gave me only 6….yes, 6.

A team member said he got 60 in the same run.

wtf…..at this rate, I won’t see my ghastly sword until 2013.

I think the bigger question is: does it fix the black screens/crashes tons of people are having right now?

A new beta driver for nvidia has been released: 306.63.

Has anyone tried this one yet? I’m at work right so I’m unable to.

Superior Rune of the Guardian

Same here. I bought 1 rune thinking since I’m a guardian I only needed 1 because all the bonuses were colored blue. However, once I applied it, it showed 7/6 in red and none of the bonuses are applied.

"Black screen" and "not responding" This might help.

Now i cant run the game anymore, it keeps black screening on me all the time.
When playing for 5-15min it can be black screen for 0,5 – 1 second, then it goes back to normal.
This can happen 3-5 times, after that ill get a black screen and “GW2 – Is not responding”

This is exactly what I’m getting. It didn’t start until about the first week of September. Up until then, it was running just fine.

Another fellow crasher reporting in. This problem escalated after the 9/18 update.

What’s weird is that sometimes I can go for 2-3 hours perfectly fine, but then the next time I play, I black-screen/crash within 10 seconds.

On the bright side, it’s a bit comforting to know that I’m not the only one, and there are thousands of other people on the same boat.

Anet, please fix!! I feel like my $60+ went down the drain.

blue screen then restart?

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I’m having the same issue with black/blue screens . I’m not a computer expert but I’m fully confident that this is a game issue.

Think about it- I’ve read countless posts on tons of forums describing the same problem and practically everyone has no problems running any other games but this. So what I don’t understand is why people are getting new vid cards, disk drives, ram, etc..when this is obviously the games’s problem. This recent update messed eveything up. There were hardly any reports of this issue until the patch around late August/early September came out.

Yup, I was jumping the gun. No luck.

Same issue: screen would go black, then back to game. On the third time, it would crash to desktop, sometimes forcing me to reboot.

Did pretty much everything mentioned above.

Well, there will be an update tonight, so hopefully it will have a fix (though I highly doubt it).

Very depressing, as I was seriously enjoying this game.

I hope I’m not jumping the gun here but I think I’ve found a fix for now.

In the Nvidia control panel, select the Program Settings tab. In the drop-down menu, select Guild Wars 2 (gw2.exe). Under the “Power Management Mode” feature, select “Prefer maximum performance.”

This seemed to make the a lot more stable with the sacrifice of FXAA. It’s been about an hour now with no crash (much better than 10 seconds).

Wow, it’s gotten really bad these last couple days. I could go for several hours w/o a problem, but now I crash within 20 seconds into the game.

The screen would go black, go back into the game for a second, back to black, into the game, back to black for a third time, then finally crash to the desktop. Sometimes even BSOD.

After usng WhoCrashed, this seemed to be the culprit: nvlddmkm.sys

It was running perfectly fine since the release up until about a week ago. I could go for hours uninterrupted, then all of sudden on my next login, I get these crashes.

My comp specs are pretty the same as the spec above, all updated.

Any ideas?

BSOD when playing GW2. PLEASE HELP!

I’ve been getting BSOD’s only recently too. It was running great since the release, but then about a week ago, the game would freeze, forcing me to restart, or BSOD.

My comp is brand new (3-4 months old) with all my drivers updated. CPU and GPU temp hovers around 49-51C. I’ve never gotten a BSOD until now.

The weird things is, I could play for hours upon hours with no problem. But then I would log off and then come back on only to crash for no apparent reason, over and over.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a software issue.
