I sincerely recommend it. I’ve enjoyed the exploration aspect of it, and I like that people are far more likely to play in groups in the new content. It’s challenging enough to not be boring, but not terribly hard to play solo – I say this as a thief main running a berzerker set.
Not that it’s a huge factor here, but it doesn’t take very long to do a Hero-Point Rush through the HoT maps, and it doesn’t make the maps feel repetitive. If anything, it reveals some new and exciting areas in which the player will want to explore and engage in later. This ends up being almost enough to get all of the e-specs with only level 4 mastery really required to access most of the points.

Experience with thief:
I’ve been playing for a couple months now, and my Thief is my main. I spend most of my time exploring, and I’ve been playing around with different builds. I’m currently enjoying the Daredevil aspect of thief, specifically the dodge-based combat. I haven’t done a lot of PvP or WvW yet, but that could change at any time.
I’ve actually had a lot of fun with solo play. It’s a little frustrating how easy it is to be killed, but with a little mastery it becomes worlds easier. It’s also far more rewarding for me to get places, and the exploration feels far more genuine. I’m loving the new content, and having a couple guilds to run stuff with that I need help on when I need it is super nice. Even as a casual player who hasn’t progressed incredibly far yet, I’ve noticed my gameplay skill level has gone up considerably. I think people are confusing casual play with lazy play, honestly. As an action RPG game, it’s not necessarily meant to be easy, even if the early-game content is a breeze. I totally get the complaints about the difficulty, but again, it really isn’t too bad if you can savor the content for what it is.
