thank you for clearing things up
it really looked like a “I didnt get a greatsaw,kittenGw2” comment ^^ no offense :P
(had to quote like this, the forum didnt let me quote every part)

honestly I dont know if key farming was a thing back in october 2012, however you could make a “mad king chest” out of 2 random boosters(there was a use for this junk omg) 1 piece of candy corn and 6 mystery tonics. which was a nice alternative. so you never really had to buy a BLK or grind for it. (thats how i got my greatsaw skin btw. totally RNG :P)

So you r saying it would make sense to put them in the store because it wouldnt be gambling. makes sense i suppose, but the intention is different, and its obviously not money, its to give the people a possibility to obtain these skins, without flooding the market with them. Not the best solution but its a reasonable one. I dont think they’ll be using this method again.

the whole achievement and RNG discussion is totally another topic, the whole drop system is, like you said, a slot machine, you should remember however that the reason, why we arent grinding for weapon sets, skins and stats in this game, is RNG, not like in traditional MMOs in which you have to work for your gear or skins over a long period of time.

(I personally like the Dry Top meta event mechanic, its very fluid, there is always a sense of progression if you do a organized run and the item drops are specific for this area, it generally feels like im being awarded for my time doing this Meta Event in this specific area.)

back to the topic..
If i get the chance to do a meta achievement, with a unique item as a reward, and i dont like the item, id never do the meta achievement. That was the flaw of S1.
The majority of community felt that way so yes, it is. Its a good thing, they changed the Achievement system. It is now meant to be for the Hardcore achievement hunters, and not for the generic gw2 player.(..casual) o/
also grinding for achievements is not the GW2 way :P

The original drop rates of the halloweeen skins were just as ridiculous, i opened around 50 chests, and got a scythe and a greatsaw, friends of mine opened around 100 and didnt get anything.
Its all RNG, always the same thing. Its not really different this time. You can “buy” yourself chances but in the end it is only a chance. Its not guaranteed.
if people want to pay for a chance of a skin. Let them do it. why not. we cant all be a mathematical genius and know how to spend our money wisely.
aint judging xD

You misunderstood me here, my quarrel with Tequatl is different, im no hurry to get myself his weapon skins, as long as i can say, that i enjoyed beating the sunless, it doesnt really matter to me, because i had a good time doing the boss event. They are only skins so im not going to be better at something because of the ascended weapon TQ dropped for me. Im okay with the way it is, that was, what i intended to say but somehow didnt end up saying

There is a precursor lottery, organized by some community members on NA.
I personally dont like it and hope A-net will never implement anything like it.
(its basically a dude who gets gold from community members, buys with it a precursor and then randomly gives it away while keeping 10 % of the gold)

to add something to your last sentence,
Yes there will be an insane amount of foils, thats why people who are rather paying RL money instead of playing the game, will be very disappointed when they realize they didnt get anything.
Its their choice, their money and their disappointment.
I cant really see the reasoning behind the Gem store foils, but it doesnt bother me in any way, so i cant really speak against it. Its basically the same system as the item drops so its nothing new or special, except maybe the the skins for some people and the 0.0001% chance you can buy in the gem store.
In the end Im still running better with my 30 foils i got today from a few hours of gameplay.
So to anyone who pays cash for shiny foils, get your gem codes, credit cards and paypal accounts rdy, because i intend to no-life the next 2 weeks!! lol

They’re pushing the envelope to see how far they can go with grabbing cash. It’s an area that needs more regulation. I’m sure that will eventually come as most countries have fairly comprehensive regulation of gambling and lotteries. They haven’t yet caught up with in-game real money gambling.

In game lottery for some things that have been requested back so many times, and putting tickets in the gem shop is a horrible idea. Doubly so in a game that allows minors to participate. At least online poker is the preserve of adults who should be able to know what they are getting into.

Why not give us back the original way of obtaining these?
Why not make a harder meta-achievement to earn one of these skins?
Why not give us a way to earn them in game?
Why not give them for a fixed price in the gem store?

More money. That’s why.

So much for GW2 wanting to be different.

Edit: I know full well these tickets can drop in-game. More chances in store are an attempt at getting more money from all those hoping to improve the chances of winning the lottery.

there is no logic behind your reasoning. get your facts straight.

the original way to obtain these skins was black lion chest grinding (which means key farming or spending money)

A-net stated that they dont want to go back to the season 1 meta achievements and that you shouldnt get any unique skins (or stuff like that) this way. They learned from their mistakes which is a good thing.

There is a way to earn them in game, go play the festival events and get yourself a ticket.

“Why not give them for a fixed price in the gem store?”
How can you say the reasoning behind the tickets is money grabbing and then ask for the skins to be in the gemstore? This doesnt make any sense xD

I guess the idea of these skins was, that they are very hard to obtain and not everybody should walk around with them, thats why you didnt unlock the greatsaw skin just by login in

I honestly dont understand the whining. And its not really gambling if you didnt invest something, and cmon the time you spend doing the event and having fun is hardly an investment.
I see Tequatl more of a gamble than these random shiny ticket drops.
Every time i do Tequatl i invest time and gold, for the possibility of an ascended weapon drop.
I do that now for a year and didnt get one weapon chest. NOT ONE!!
And you didnt see me whining about it on the forums. Because I know, the only way im going to get that chest, is by praying to the rng god.

Got to add that I keep seeing this a lot, whining without reasoning on the forums.
I really hope people start actually reading information instead of whining about what they didnt like last patch. The reason why a lot of things are done this way and not an other way, are most of the time already there, like past mistakes and decisions that didnt work all that well, new mechanics or a different approach.. etc.

Is Factions main theme more Chinese, Japanese or Korean sounding, just wondering.

A mix – Tengu are Japanese, for example. The problem is China, Japan and Korea are all have tension and people do not want to upset any of them.

Do you have proof of that? that someone would actually care about a videogame having a mix of more than 1 culture, even if they have tension, wouldnt that help them to show at least a part of the world that they are tolerant even if they dont like it? I keep reading stuff like that and I think it is total nonsense. (no offense)

look around, ask ppl, go outside (i know, it’s scary).
there is your proof, he doesn’t have to provide proof when it’s right there.

So your saying because the majority of people thinks that, it`s true.
Sorry but i grew up learning to have my own opinion.
If you look at the politics and economy in eastern asia you`ll see that China is one of the rising giants in economy and i dont believe they will stop their progress because of a feud with other cultures or countrys. It is much more likely that they will get more tolerant and open up even to old rivals because of profit. The main asset of Economy is money and profit, everybody wants to get more money because money, that means Economy, rules the world. Not politics. If those Countrys realise that and believe me they already have realised it, they will put their feud aside and start exchanging. It already is happening even if it happens slowly.
If you dont believe me just remember in which year we live in and try to find the right information through the internet.
Remember -> Economy -> profit = money = World
—I`m not saying nobody will feel offended, there will always someone feel offended but at some point nobody will care because the right people got their money out of it.

Cantha and its cultural problems..
I`m not sure if that is actually a problem, even if it where true that a company or a person, officially stated that they are offended by the mixed architecture etc. , it is easily avoidable.
Just look at the timeline and the lore we have of Cantha. We know we have a whole continent that is ruled by one big empire which has different cultures in it. In GW1 we had different factions and cultures, and we know that they were beaten and integrated in the Empire of the Dragon. But even though they were defeated the
Luxon and the Kurzick would still keep some of their traditions. Now lets assume each of them were moved to a district in the city, they would build houses and stuff but always in their own style. That allows the devs to make the whole city in different styles of architecture. Lets say main Kaineng in a more Chinese way, south-Kaineng in a more Korean way and Shing Jea in a Japanese way.
This makes this whole cultural nonsense some people are talking about non-essential.

I think the main problem is more game and lore related, like how, why and when to get to the isolated continent Cantha.
There are a lot of possibilities however how to get there and why, for example sailing over the unending sea, which should be possible because Zhaitan is now dead. You can say we can`t because of the Deep Sea Dragon, which is no problem, `cause we have Airships! Build a small fleet of Airships, fly over the Sea and build an Asura gate.
There is a giant Area too which connects Tyria with Cantha : The Depths Of Tyria.(Which are controlled by Primordus) And if all the GW1 Veterans remember the dredge we had in Cantha, they dug a Tunnel from the Shiverpeaks to the Echovald Forest. These tunnels would now logically be controlled by Primordus too and that lets us assume that Cantha has a Destroyer problem.
That can be used by the devs as a reason, that the Canthan Empire would call The Pact for help (because they already killed a Elder Dragon and the City is feared to be destroyed from the ground because of a big invasion from Primordus who smells a big fountain of magic or whatever), which they know of, from the Zephyr Sanctum or the Order of Whispers.

That leaves us with the question of when to get to Cantha.
I think this question is very Story and Elder Dragon related. We need a reason why to go for Primordus for example and not for one of the other Elder Dragons.
In Season 1 of the Living World Mordremoth was revealed to us.
My guess is that in Living World Season 2, he will be properly introduced to us in the Origin of the Sylvari Arc.(which is also my guess)
Going for the Head of this new threat in season 3 or 4 would be rushing things and i would be honestly disappointed by A-net. First we have to get a feeling of this new threat before attacking it and that can take a lot of seasons in the Living Story.
So Mordremoth is out of question, the Deep Sea Dragon obviously too, that leaves us with Jormag, Primordus and Kralkatorrik.
First Jormag, i personally don`t like the thought of going for Jormag, because of the Kodan. They fled south because Jormag was too much of a kitten and they were probably almost extinct if you count how many they are now.
I like the thought of them taking a break, settle down, rebuild, regenerate and come back as a playable race and then go for Jormag.
So its Primo and Kralka, i remember hearing in an interview that Kralka would be next after Zhaitan.(Don`t remember who was interviewed or when it was, sry for that)
So why not Kralka? I`ll tell you why not, if we kill Kralka, it would open a path to Elona, and Elona is a continent full of Undead. So.. who would want that? I think we have seen enough Undead for a time thanks to Zhaitan. You could bring them as a playable race but that wouldn`t work well, because Undead in Guild Wars are always bound to powerful necromancy, like a Lich or a Dragon (obviously) and are controlled by them and that doesn`t fit in that Great Hero Of Tyria picture that our characters are.
So Primordus seems the most reasonable one and he is the best choice as an antagonist that would lead us to Cantha and let us unite with them.

These are just my thoughts of how things will or should be going, pure speculation based on more or less logical thinking.

There is only one more thing i want to say related to how the Devs are handling our enthusiasm and questions about Cantha and Elona.
Please just keep staying silent about that topic! I think it is awesome how you handle it, keep staying silent until you release it. It would make a great impact the moment you release it! And i think I would actually cry tears of joy if that would ever happen.

I hope some of you actually understood what I talked about and i hope this topic will keep on going so we can show A-net and NCSoft that Cantha is needed!
[sry for my bad english grammar by the way]
