Honestly as well as i think mounts are controlled, I think they are horrible for this game now. Youve changed the entire map design, possibly for the future of this game for a gimmick that is barely different than zephyrite crystals in dry top. They need to be far more diverse in their abilities to be worth it, otherwise the movement will be the norm, and people will get bored of them easily.

As someone who is well informed and in contact with high ups from the major communities involved in this game, let me tell you, those who think hot was up to snuff are in the vast minority. Frankly assuming that the majority are happy with it is hilariously ignorant, you only have to take a look at the state of the community for that. Numbers are dwindling, tensions are high, and a lot of the bigger guilds are losing members like a bleeding goat.

Op is absolutely right, I support this game, but even then the next expansion is a tipping point for not only me but my entire 100 man guild. I suggest those who are defending it and objecting with OP take a step back and think, how much would you enjoy your game still if half the playerbase who organised things suddenly jumped ship?

Ok, let’s get a few things out there. This thread is ok — it could actually be really valuable to those who participate in it on a reasonable level. I see it as an honest attempt by a good player to offer help to other players. Having said that, let’s keep the tone relatively respectful and — as I’ve said before — save the overt aggression for the battleground.

A few of you were concerned about the use of the term “pleb.” It’s not the greatest term, but I seem to remember when newbie/noob/n00b was considered the height of insult and it’s now commonplace and pretty acceptable across the board.

The ground rule is this:

  • A generic reference = ok. Example: “The average pleb will…”
  • A direct referral to another player as a pleb = not ok. “You’re a pleb.” “You play like a pleb.” “Your socks carry the unmistakable odor of plebism.”
  • Other types of insults aren’t good, either.

If you’re going to report, look at what’s being said. If you’re going to try an attack or a counter attack, may I politely introduce you to your choice of PvP modes rather than doing it on the forums?

I am honestly speechless.

I think a lot of us are.

I completely agree, the fact that this kind of condescending and insulting attitude is not only acceptable, but supported by the moderators is a sad sight. If anyone but helseth had made it because of his fame I bet it would have been flamed and removed by now.

To Gaile, I would add, I and many other consider pleb to still be an insulting word. I’d refer you to the case where an MP in england got into considerably trouble for using the word to refer to police. I have no idea whether it is a different culture thing, but even so I can’t see how it could be used in a decent light. The use of it just isnt needed.

Considering the obvious game of thrones reference, and your name just being bland for the sake of being bland ( no offence, but i mean, its pretty cliche ), Im sure its just developers wanting their fun. Besides if its any consolation i hate game of thrones as well, so all of these names are lame to me :p

Taimi in the context of tyria

I see a lot of folks nowadays praise taimi, and her story, but I have not once felt she was appropriate to the world of guild wars 2. Before you start brandashing pitchforks and torches let me explain.

As long as taimi lives, and is following the commander, there can be no tension to the story anymore, none. This is for all intents and purposes, a disabled child, that granted has a golem following them, but is able to survive the harshest jungle environments basically on her own. If you were to argue that she is able to survive as easily as she does, no other asura would feasibly die within tyria, as frankly a weak powerless little creature can get to the heart of the most dangerous areas without a scratch. Even with the golem argument, every single asura is able to build golems, several more technically advanced then hers ( snaff and sandy anyone? ), so it makes no sense that any asura would die.

The second most important part of this is that taimi is a child. A child for kitten’s sake! How can anyone feel threatened in a world where children wander off perfectly fine in unexplored areas. And yet we have adult characters, battle hardened for years being felled by what are to us, fairly weak minions.

I can’t say whether it was felt taimi was a good choice to include for expositions sake, just to have an asura be important in destinys edge 2.0, or to appeal to a certain market, but as long as she continues to live as arrogantly and easily as she does, there will be no tension in any of the story. No characters deaths will be realistic. There wont be any fear to anything anymore because hey, the small disabled child is fine so whats the danger.

I dunno, I’d like to see other peoples thoughts, whether im alone in this and people are fine with her antics, or if there is an agreeing crowd but to sum up, if she doesnt either a) die, or b) dissappear into a non combat role forever I wont be able to take any part of the upcoming story seriously.

Frankly I agree. Its ridiculous how some people are complaining. On the one hand, you’ve got people who are complaining their abilities are changing (don’t use them then) or people who are complaining their abilities arent changing too much. Like elementalists, you literally have pretty much everything this game can offer you, bar stealth, and you complain you don’t get a huge change? Think of something better yourself that isnt going to cement your already well engraved spot as most wanted class in pve. Those who whine about an offhand, you’re getting more new abilities than a main hand weapons class so again, not much to complain about there.

Besides, it has been stated time and time again this is setting up to more specialisations. Dont like this one? Wait for a new one or try a new class. Especially if you’re someone comparing one classes specialisation to anothers, your account isnt locked to one class. Make a new character, you have no ground to stand on with any argument like that.

Honestly boohoo. You basically want to take away any challenge for anyone else because you dont feel competant enough to do it for yourself. Frankly, either practice and learn to do it, or dont get the reward. Thats life. Not everything is going to be handed to you on a silver platter, and those of us who do want to work for our reward shouldnt be left out because others cant try. And no, fps or lag is not an excuse. I beat liadry on a 7fps pc, with ping of 100-200 sporadic, at 3am in the morning after 7 hours of effort. It felt better than obtaining anything you will have bought off the trading post, and as it should. Buying everything will drive away everyone, as this will become a game of who has the most money, which unfortunately, will see the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, because of flippers and trading post manipulating. Id much prefer more liadrys and less silverwaste chest farms thankyou very much. Even if you cant do it yourself, nothing says you have to.

Honestly i don’t agree with this. A word in itself cannot be offensive, it is merely a sound. How you take that sound is up to you “offence cannot be given, it can only be taken”. If someone is using a word as an adjective towards someone or a group of people in a negative connotation that sure enough feel free to report them for it, but if its just being used in the middle of a sentence or a sentence filler ignore it. Be an adult, grow up. No way, no how can you argue in the slightest that what they’re doing is wrong, because its simply how you’re taking the word as it exists, so blame is on you.

To be honest, I’m inclined to agree. Though it may draw groans, I think the best parallel i can think of is actually modern warfare 2’s airport scene.

The difference being, eventually the civillians get wiped out by your teamates in mw2, and you dont have to fire a shot. Here if you dont participate in the slaughter then you lose.

I agree that things like this should be shown, and shouldnt be shyed away from in storytelling, however in a playable medium you should always have the option to turn away from mindless slaughter. Especially so if you can blatantly see what you are doing is stupid and wrong.

Marriage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

novaspire.9801

I’m sorry but, people have clearly given factually based arguments as to why this is a bad idea, and all you seem to be doing is ignoring them.

Like it or not, adding a system where people get benefits for an arbitrary title is a bad idea, you’ll end up with everybody using it for no other reason than extra bank slots and easily abused mechanics. The only people who will actually care “the roleplayers in this case” will end up having to ask if the marriage is legitimate, in a sea of people who have done it for the benefits and no other reason. It might as well not exist.

You may be right in that a game can go in any direction it wants to, but that is not a good idea. This is guild wars 2, not second life. Focus should be made on mechanics that will benefit the game, not cause needless arguments for what is at best a cosmetic buff that isn’t needed to begin with. This addition would be a net hurt rather than a gain. Think of all the messages that would be sent to the admins because of people being scammed through this system. Then think of the slight bonus of a little extra bank space and a super slight increase in roleplaying flexibility. As opposed to someone just saying through chat “im married to x”.

As for the main argument. The entire point of guild wars 2 is co-operation. Not between 2 people, but between everyone. Thats why loot is individual to stop arguing for the best loot, thats why buffs are very rarely for your own use only, thats why world bosses exist, its all for big group co-operation. This feature would benefit 2 people, but force them to be together whenever they wanted to do something like a dungeon for their benefits. Now think of a party of 5. One person is going to be left out if you have 2 “couples” with boosts. Its unfair to them, and an unfair system overall if youre someone who rightly doesnt trust someone over the internet to share some items in the same bankslot.

In short, too many downsides, benefits are minimal/non-existant to the game, and to individual players its an opt-in buff that is easily abused and will cause strife. Its a bad idea.

Well I had a few ideas overnight so i thought id shove them in, hopefully they dont get in the way. When it comes to challenging encounters, mobility is definitely important, but i dont think that that should be reduced to simply dodging or moving into better spots for shooting. An idea I had that followed this was an encounter where a check will be run every 30 seconds or so, and depending on where the party is standing a different effect will be placed on the enemy. To picture this better imagine a star constellation. If the party was standing in the same spots as say the chariot, then a swarm of arrows would rain from the ceiling. In short fights should also take advantage of where youre standing, as well as where your moving to in order to have environmental effects. This can also be used to have “moving bosses”. In a similar vein to the claw of jormag, you could have a boss that “flees” to random rooms in a raid, and the party can either chase it down, or station people at various points in order to pin its movements and control it. No need to have encounters stay in one place, feel free to have them run.

In terms of conditions, i had the idea where instead of say a stack of bleed will be applied, there could be a meter of sorts for larger mobs. if 25 stacks were hit by the party, then the mob would recieve a debuff “heavy bleed” which would do a certain amount of %health damage as long as it stayed. The idea behind this is that smaller parties could time their conditions together rather than spam them, so that their combined efforts and co-ordination have more of an effect. If done right, you can also make it so that if a party is capable of say 35 stacks of bleed, the stack of heavy bleed will then allow new bleeds to be applied, and the party could co-ordinate so that the highest condi dealer could apply theirs last, to improve the damage dealt.

As for rewards and progress, I dont see why we cant have a seperate track for raids. Not stat wise or anything, more for beating certain bosses or raids, players get tokens to spend on outfits or something i havent seen guild wars implement, an aura effect or animation. Something like for defeating an ice raid, someone can get tokens to get an idle animation that forms a chair of ice for the character to sit on.

If any of these ideas have been mentioned already i apologise. Ive only skimmed the cdi a little with my free time. Hope these suggestions spark up some ideas from others.

Proposal Overview

For 4-5 party raids, have a specific section of the raid focused on an aspect of varying difficulty

Goal of Proposal

Keeping content challenging, whilst accommodating lesser skilled players

Proposal Functionality

Assuming that the party of 5 mechanic will remain in place, I propose that in a similar vein to how dungeons are run, there will be different paths on a raid. Not so much that there will be different “stories” altogether for it, rather for example, one party deals with a jumping puzzle, whilst another fights a dodge heavy mob, and another fights a dps-race mob. The idea being, if you are skilled in one area specifically (dodging/jumping/condition) you can be involved in that aspect of a raid. Meaning if a player is new to a raid, they can be placed into a party dealing with an “easier section” of the raid.

Associated Risks

Players purposely always joining the easiest raid party due to laziness
Possible backlash to failing the more difficult sections.

So this kind of a thing had a name? I always called it sword art syndrome. Anyways yes, I agree. If youre going to bring in a character and make them seem important " a unique weapon skin being a key point here " you really shouldnt be killing them off before some kind of development. Especially in the first 10 minutes. Ive had more emotional connection with a hot dog. I looked at that cutscene, though oh for kittens sake, then stopped caring. The writing has improved in some areas, but in others its plummeted.

Constructive Criticism

novaspire.9801

Hi there. Big fan of the game, but I need to let off some steam here, because I’m seeing things that I just don’t feel are acceptable at the moment. I’ll try and make this as constructive as possible.

At this moment there is a lot working for GW2, however for the more dedicated side of things, there is so much broken that it isn’t even funny. To come up with a small list, organising a worm kill is a nightmare, even more so because the timers mean only one time a day is actually feasible, but mainly because filling up a server with people willing to help is a task that takes an hour minimum, and requires trickery which just shouldnt be needed. Tequatls bugs, causing us to lose loot, and stress out a lot. The boss blitz again being difficult to organise, and as a side note are you joking with that lyssa drop rate?

Now that isn’t so much the issue I’m seeing, as just the cause of the issue. The main issue, is that these main issues are never mentioned by your staff. I understand that getting new players is needed for a business, but you don’t seem to appreciate that the thousands of us who have spent so much time in this game that these issues become a problem are actually considering leaving. For every 10 new players you get 1 dedicated one, and so us leaving is a big issue. We are dealing with hellish organisation, and massive problems, to the point where we have to actually organise a strategy around certain bugs on a daily basis, have sent countless bug reports and we get nothing.

On the flipside these forums are run in a way so that hardly anyone seems to be able to get a word in. For world v world, you made a seperate forum which i swear isnt moderated, so for the genuine issues there they get ignored, and for general discussion you have to wade through troll posts in the 100’s. Anything negative tends to get ignored, in the main forums, but clicking on the dev tracker the only responses seem to be one of two. 1) this thread is being locked for arbitrary reason, or 2) this is positive feedback so everybody responds.

It is not a bad thing to have problems in your game, It is however a bad thing to leave so many of your dedicated fanbase in the dark, and have a forum that feels like you are shouting into thin air. I dont know how your infrastructure works, but some of us need to know you are working on things. Is it honestly so hard to say something like : Tequatls bug is being fixed, lyssas drop rate is being repaired/working as intended, we are looking into megaserver instance changes.

I say these things not to point fingers or judge, rather to make a point. Us dedicated players dont have more rights than the new players, but we certainly dont deserve to be ignored. As a community, we feel ignored, and have had our experience hindered massively recently with no sign of help. So Im not expecting changes overnight, but there is a lot that needs to be looked at, and even more that you are telling us you are looking at.

What I would like to know is are those achievements going to be made available again? If not, which I can understand, will the rewards for those achievements be made available in some way? Either gem store, or uber-rare drop.
