Maybe I am just not "good’, but elementalist is the only class with which I can solo most champions easily.
I see others complaining that thieves have it so easy, but when I played a thief I would have trouble with a group of 3 mobs that included a veteran in most cases. I would have to kite the same way that I do on my elementalist, the difference being I was not doing damage while kiting, only staying alive and waiting for initiative.
The problem with elementalists is that in order to perform at par with some other classes you have to make a commitment to a play style. Sure we have 4 bars of spells, but most builds only offer 5 damage skills that are on par with other classes. the other spells should still be used for effects though.
If you are not ok with either:
Grabbing a staff and stacking power and crit
or
grabbing a scepter and stacking condition damage
Then you will likely have weaker damage output than other classes at level 80.
Some elementalists are all over the map with their stat allocation and build strategy.
There are more than a few viable ele builds, you jsut have to pick one and gear to it.
How do I solo 10 mobs?
With a staff?
That’s the hard way.
It is far easier to break out an earth elemental and then dagger-OH-5 the group while he tanks them….then watch them bleed to death before they get anywhere close to you.
That earth elemental can take a hit. He is quite hearty and holds aggro like a champ. He also instantly takes all aggro on spawn.
The same people who don’t want elementalists are the ones who won’t go into a dungeon without a Guardian.
The ability to run anything with any class combination is enabled and supported in this game.
The problem you are writing about is one caused by players and their beliefs concerning how MMO should be played.
The good news is that this is cured by joining a guild where you can establish yourself as someone who plays well. I for one take the player and not the class whenever I organize runs.
My thoughts are these: GW2 content is not difficult in my experience. Anyone who thinks that it is necessary to exclude an entire profession from consideration in order to beat GW2 content is not someone you want to run with anyway.
I only die when my cantrips are on cd and a mob gets off a lucky cripple or something that I can remove or shorten…and my elemental is on cd….and I am out of stamina….and earth armor isnt up.
I love the trait ability that allows you to remove burn and freeze with dodge.
Elementalist pve survival is exactly equal to your skill at running backwards in a circle while maintaining dps.
I would estimate that easily 90% of the mobs in the general environment are absolutely hamstrung by this tactic.
Also, circle size normally works inversely to mob size/mobility (with adjustments for reach and pbaoe abilities).
I have been able to solo melee-only champions since my first day as an elementalist. This is not bacause I have “skill” (I don’t) but rather because I can keep the q-key pressed while evenly moving my mouse to the right…..and oversized mobs can’t corener for anything.
I just logged in to look at my sceptre-1-earth tooltip.
I was down-leveled to 76 because of location.
The tooltip said 2046 bleeding dmg over 7 3/4 seconds.
The pulses I am getting are about 98.
While this is not conclusive, I think this lends support to a general theory of a pulse being a damage instance set to occur 3x per second.
as always….I am frequently wrong…this is not gospel, just dirty arithmetic.
