Level 30 and looking for gear advice

in Ranger

I just hit level 30 and am crafting my gear and am a bit lost on what stats to focus on. I mainly solo pve at this point using long bow (I know most seem to not like the LB but I love the range) and greatsword.

Any advice on stats or build in general would be greatly appreciate!

So no class stands out as a top PVE class? I guess that says a lot for where balancing is in the game.

I played GW2 for a few months after release but got burnt out on gaming all together about then and took a long break. I would like to jump back in and experience the main story and pve lines in the game but am not sure where the classes stand now a days. I doubt I will do any pvp so that shouldn’t be a factor. I remember enjoying the ranger, elementalist (although I was terrible at it), and mezmer back in the day if that gives any idea of my play style.

Thanks for any help or advice!

Thank you all for the wonderful information. It appears the community here is as wonderful and helpful as I had remembered.

Ok, it’s the standard question but I had hoped to get the attention of you find people who so graciously answer these questions. As with many, I am back after about 6 months or so away and after looking through about 40 pages of the forums am still torn on my class choice.

I am one of those altaholics who have this issue, but for me I have learned that if I don’t pick one (or two at most) classes I get burnt out quickly with the starter areas and eventually stop playing.

I have it narrowed down to Ranger, Necromancer, Elementalist, or Thief, with a slight interest in Guardians. Being someone who mostly solos in PVE I have tried to use the search engine to look up older threads asking this but the engine here is someone limited so I turn to you. I know my top four choices were very poor soloers when I left (might have had some influence on me going) or were broken badly in other regards. There seems to be very conflicting opinions on how each class really stands now soloing and tagging mobs. Everyone admits Guardians are in a good place but since they are my last resort class I would love info on the other 4 if anyone has any insight.

How do these classes compare in survival, killing speed, enjoyment, and exploration? Thank you again for your time and help… it is greatly appreciated!

Race and Gender

I am curios if anyone has an opinion on which race and or gender has the best aesthetics when it comes to the medium armor that we wear. I currently have a 30ish human male thief and have been disappointed with the general look of the armor choices thus far and would like to have more to look forward to on my ranger.

Thanks for any opinions.

I should have been more specific, sorry for any confusion. The scholar classes are Necro, Elementalist, and Mesmer.

I need a bit of help and am a bit torn. I have played all three scholars up to at least 15 – 20 and find things I love about them all. That said I would like to really buckle down and pick one or two (thief being my 2nd) classes to focus on so I don’t keep doing the same zones again and again. I have read the forums for all three classes but some threads are vague on if they are talking about PVE, PVP, or WVW. My questions are these…

1) which of the three scholar classes has the easiest time soloing (for those times when no one else is around or you have a personal quest)
2) which of the three are able to get golds and “tag” well for DEs?
3) Do any of the three stand out to you as more fun or have some utility that you find beyond useful?

Thanks for any insight as my brain is getting a bit tired of 2nd guessing this question.

Here is my level 36 Charr Engineer named Devil Anse Catfield. He used to be strictly rifles but now dual pistols are his forte.

As a direct decedent of the man I approve whole heatedly!

After reading this thread I tried out the Sword/Pistol where as I have been using only DD/SB up til now (level 25). I was amazed with the survivability with this! My question is what stats other than vitality should I be pushing? I am mostly condition damage/vitality as of now but I am guessing power/vit/precision?

Thanks for any insight!

Is what Prodigy saying true at the higher levels? Been having a blast now up to 20 with DD but hate the thought of having to kite at higher levels.

I like rangers but when I tried one out in the Mist it seemed like the enemies ignored my pet and just came for me.

So after weeks of playing and having about every class at least 15-20 level wise I am no closer to picking a main. I would love some opinions on what class folks feel is best for overall soloing, exploring, DEs, and having fun with. I am leaning towards Necro (great aoe but the forums point towards very low dps later in levels), Thief (great fun class but seems to go down faster than Paris Hilton on prom night), and Warrior (well rounded but can’t swing a dead Char without hitting one).

Any advice or opinions are very welcomed.
