Thank you. I think I’ve got it now. Guess I won’t be playing instances with other people anymore. Don’t want to fall into that trap again.

Or does it do it automatically when I finish that final mission of the chapter, without me having to choose anything?

Not quite what I am asking. See previous thread. I understand your answer, but I am asking a very specific question about HOW to do this. I go in and play the required missions to finish the chapter I don’t want to be in and then, only on the last one, when it gives me a choice to move on, should I select “NO”? In order to drop me back into the order and storyline I chose?

I still have not had all my questions answered about a previous topic entitled “Order Changed. Help?” and yet it has been locked so I cannot comment or seek help anymore.

So, I have to do the last task in a chapter (have to look it up to know which one per the link provided), and then choose not to accept it once I have completed it? This will drop me back into my own storyline?

Think that hits the nail on the head. Some mention is needed also in the wiki, in the manual and the help on how this happens, how it affects your game and how it can be eventually be remedied. It was nearly impossible to find info on this. And it seems it’s a pretty common problem after digging around the forums.

As for the mission to story ratio…since you have to “jump out” (let’s assume you’re playing with the same friend and you want to get out of this situation of being stuck in his/her story line) you would need to know EXACTLY what ends the chapter (the titles of the next missions, etc they give you as “warning” are no help there) in order to actually fix it. Since they vary, this makes it difficult, if not impossible. You’d have to go in and play all the missions alone. And then does it AUTOMATICALLY kick you back into your storyline at the end of the chapter, or do you have to be careful not to choose or accept or end another mission? It’s not so much the vendor, etc. problem, but it makes the story all wrong, leaving out chapters you might need to know something about to make sense of your own storyline later. And the Dev responses don’t seem very clear on how exactly you “end up” back in your storyline, just as it’s unclear how you ended up in someone else’s (the warnings given say NOTHING about it).

And worse yet, while in any instance, you are not sure when a “Chapter” of the storyline is ending, making it a guessing game as to whether you will be able to figure out how to jump of this unwanted storyline at all. Looks like I may be perma-stuck.

This really sucks. Despite what is claimed in that thread, another warning DOES need to be issued. Since no one knows the name of the next story thread in any existing storyline (unless perhaps they have played it recently with another character), the current warning does not do ANYTHING to tell people that this will temporarily derail their own storyline. So now I have to finish an entire chapter as “someone else” just to get back to my own storyline (missing some of my own storyline in the process). MAJOR flaw in the system. Incredibly ridiculous way to implement a “solution” to what really isn’t a problem. Absolutely unnecessary and frustrating and it seems to happen all the time to people and every single time someone complains, completely confused as to what’s going on. This really needs to be changed.

I chose the order of The Vigil, but while playing with a friend, it has somehow switched me to the Order of The Whispers. My storyline even shows I chose The Vigil and then goes on to have my next mission be looking for missions from The Order of Whispers. I have logged on and played without that friend and the change seems to be permanent. How does this happen and how can I fix it? And avoid it happening in the future? Help?
