Pro Murphy: 44 Guardian
Coneybear: 80 Ranger [RETIRED 11/15/2012]
I posted a blog on how to never get hit by his ice rain spell again. I constantly see people getting hit by this in the snowblind fractal. Check out my blog, maybe it’ll help.
This thread dead? I feel like the only way to make this request have legs is if we continue to talk about it.
PET DODGE A dodge on F3 Callback, with some kind of internal cooldown (possibly modified by vigor) to stop spamming might well be a good way of dealing with the issue. We are already used to using callback defensively to attempt to get our pets out of circles (though due to it waiting for the current attack to finish makes it less than optimal), so having it do a dodge would feel natural to Rangers. It would work very cleanly in the framework laid out. (IE. No new key to learn etc.)
Note: I’m not saying you shouldn’t be able to F3 Callback while it’s on cooldown, just you wouldn’t get the Dodge component if you did.
STOWING PETS If you were going to alter Stow, I feel the easiest solution would be to stop the pet popping out when you take damage if it’s set to passive (blue dove icon). But have it act as it currently does (popping out when you take damage) if set to aggressive (red icon).
LACK OF KEYBINDING I would also love to be able to keybind the Change Mode and Stow on my pet. It’s a real pain trying to hit a tiny icon on the screen when you need it, especially as nothing else needs you to click on screen.
RELIABILITY Currently certain skills like Lick Wounds & Search and Rescue are fairly unreliable in dungeons, I don’t even use S&R on my bar any more, as your pet will rush off and heal NPCs, or just fail to do anything due to rough ground.
In a team situation having some of our best team support so unreliable makes us much less desirable.
POOR SUPPORT A similar issue is present with Spirits which are generally seen to be poorer than other classes team support like Shouts (not our Shouts as they are pet buffs more than anything else), As they generally die very fast and don’t give significant buffs while they are out. This leads to them being rarely used in Dungeons at all.
This is an excellent place to start.
Some other suggestions include
1. Giving us control over pet AI. (Neverwinter Nights did this)
2. Having pets react to red circles.
3. Giving us other pets with the F2 ability of going incorporeal. AKA a crab, or maybe let a breeze rider (flying jellyfish) be tamed and phase out of existance for 5 seconds with F2.
Maybe as more games add this on, GW2 will follow suit.
Really the best solution is just to let people pick their color for the circles.
I would love the ability to change the UI colors and most importantly the red circles. I have a great difficulty seeing them.
Yes my stats were posted wrong. These are the correct stats.
Stats:
Power 1430
Precision 1054 <= was higher than I originally posted
Toughness 1760 <= was higher than I originally posted
Vitality 1643
Critical Chance 11%
Critical Damage 36
Condition Damage 50
Healing Power 773
So this is a “realize what you are” kind of moment for me. I have an 80 Ranger, maybe I’ll just use that for WVW.
I’m really enjoying my guardian in PVE and in sPVP I do a great job holding points by myself. But 1 vs 1s where I need to kill someone, anyone, I can’t finish the job. Help!
Build,
0,5,30,30,5
(for pvp: valor: VI, V, XI, Honor: VI, VIII, IX)
Stats:
Power 1430
Precision 916
Toughness 1460
Vitality 1643
Critical Chance 11%
Critical Damage 36
Condition Damage 50
Healing Power 773
I typically take the 3 shouts and heal my party in dungeons. This build has really made me an asset on fractals but as I said, 1 on 1 I’m useless. Any advice?
Same here. I swapped to Guardian.
lol. Holy cow. Thanks for those videos.
If you knew what the Devs had planned for the Ranger… would you feel better?
I’m sure the developers don’t want to start an argument or what have you until changes are MADE. But I’d personally love to know what the developers are thinking may be potential fixes to our problems. Even if they say, “We won’t get to this until 2 months.” It would still make me stay on my Ranger, knowing that there will be fixes someday.
All this silence just makes me want to reroll or play another game.
Am I alone in thinking like this? I’m really frustrated and feeling lackluster about the state of things.
I wish we knew what the devs were working on.
Jon, what do Rangers need to do to receive this sort of attention?
Arenanet, if I were you’d I’d do like the poster above suggested and change the date.
And perhaps in general stick to constant content in the future. That way if it’s bugged everyone can play it when it’s fixed. Putting a 1-3 window on things just leads to disasters.
Any secrets? Struggling here.
Is Southsun Cove open? If not, when?
Short bow is the more damaging of the two bows.
An elementalist was running away from me. Not doing anything but spamming her heal-skill which she only did once. She was running for her life and she was down to 40%.
I gave chase, spamming all my skills (minus 3). I used QZ and Sharpening Stone.
Not only did she not die after 15 seconds, but she was at a net positive of health after the chase ended.
Great game, but terrible class. Time to re-roll.
I’m disgusted. This is a huge let down.
5k comments. how many do we need to leave before a GW2 dev comments?
I hope GW2 rethinks this idea.
I’m noticing that in 1v1 I don’t do very well. It doesn’t matter if I’m a ranger, engineer, warrior, mesmer or thief. I think I’m probably not approaching fighting correctly at all. Any tips for how you go about fights?
I’d love to have you describe what you think the ranger is. I enjoyed reading that theme-based balance explanation.

What could it be?
So, it sounds like the game plays about as good as it is going to?

I have a i3-540 and a 460 GTX. I have 64bit Windows, 8gb or ram and a SSD.
Performance is good… until it is not. I am concerned that if I drop 200 bucks on my machine I will not see an improvement. Can anyone give me some guidance regarding how to get more performance out of GW2?
I’m an 80 ranger, my girlfriend is a 62 Mesmer. We’re still having a great time.
You know the single thing I want? Spike trap, Frost Trap, or Healing Spring on dodge.
Great points. I agree with almost all besides “killable signet”. Only because you’d help your nearby allies as well.
So we have dev confirmation that changes are coming. What do you think some of the changes will be?
Other than bug fixes, here’s some things I’m hoping for.
1. Out with Shouts, In with Pet-Specific Signets. This allows us to set a role to our pet. (Tank/Dmg/Support) that will buff up certain stats.
2. Spirits will give less of a buff, but it will be constant.
3. Old signets will be replaced with ranger-specific signets. Ones like more crit chance or more cond damage or something.
Bug fixes I’m looking forward to the most.
1. Pet-AI.
2. Sword issues.
3. Shortbow DPS issues
4. Quickness not working with Shortbow autoattack
I’m very hopeful about the future.
