I’m just going to drop this question here instead of starting a whole new topic for it. It seems like some of the people in this thread might be able to give a decent opinion on it.
Should I even bother leveling a ranger? I wanted to level up a strong WvW class, something that I could roam with, do small group play with, and zerg with, but after spending some time on this forum I’m not quite sure Ranger is what I’m looking for. Would I just be better off making a Warrior and running longbow and/or rifle? Or would a thief be the better choice even?
So I’m just recently coming back to Guild Wars 2 after not playing it for a few months. I have been playing it off and on since release, but have yet to get a character to max level. So far I have played an Engineer to mid 60s, a Mesmer to mid 40s, and a Guardian to mid 30s.
So coming back now I want to pick a class to finally get to max level, and hopefully find a good guild to do some stuff with, I’m just having a hard time finding a class I want to play!
I heard Memser’s were nerfed quite hard so I’m not sure if I want to play them. And my problems with Guardians and Engineers is I feel like the effective builds for them always come down to buff bot builds, were you never get to use any interesting utility skills and are stuck using shouts and elixirs, as they are the only thing that’s viable.
So I want to know which class I should try. The only thing I’m really looking for is I want a class with multiple viable build options that don’t come down to buff stacking. I want some fun interesting abilities to use!
Wow I’ve been looking for a post similar to this and you have answered literally everything I could want Yams.
The only thing I’m confused on is just in general, why do so many people use Tool Kit. I’ve been away from the game for several months but when I left, Tool Kit was only ever used for the belt skill coupled with static discharge. Do it get massive buffs or something? Or are people just using it for utility purposes?
So I’m pretty new to the Mesmer class and am pretty low level at the moment. I was curious if using a sword/pistol + sword/sword setup would be viable. I haven’t seen it used any where from my lurking. The obvious downside to the setup is you are technically losing out on 3 skills by overlapping the 1,2, and 3 skills from having sword as main hand on each. The upside as I see it though is you always have access to Blurred strikes no matter what weapon set you have up, as well as the combination of both iDuelist and iSwordsman (the two best illusions in my opinion). Blade Training also gets full use with this setup, since it won’t deactivate if you swap weapons.
Anyone think an Illusion build would work with this weapon set? Is there something I’m missing that would make this setup not work well?
I’m not going to read through your wall of LoL text, but I’m going to go ahead and say that being an OP duelist class in exchange for being meh in other fields doesn’t equate to balance. In fact it’s a clear indication of inbalance in every single aspect. Classes should be balanced for all types of play. They should have a niche for every aspect of a game. And YOU as the player should want it to be that way! You’re extremely short sighted to not want to be competitive at PvE, WvW, and high level sPvP (ie team play), all in exchange for guaranteed wins in 1v1s.
Everyone on these mesmer forums who are trying to argue that Mesmer’s are balanced because they are bad at other aspects of the game in exchange for being great duelists is a complete idiot who apparently doesn’t understand the very basic concept of “balance” (a seesaw with one end raised up high while the other side is down in the dirt wouldn’t be called balanced by anyone with a brain).
Reporting in for duty fellow yak.
I to would like to know the best way to lend myself to the fight. Do we have some kind of vent server or something we could all use? What are the primary WvW guilds of our server? ect.
This looks good but just be careful that you make sure all your guides are up to date. Sleepytigerz guide for example is really out of date and doesn’t serve any real use to the community outside of generalities about the class and playstyles.
Vulnerabilty, like from precise sights, doesn’t effect conditions from what I have seen on the forums. With that in mind you could swap out precise sights for infused precision maybe, and then replace speedy kits with something, prolly going down the elixier tree further would be better than the tools tree.
As the title says I just hit 60 and got myself a lovely little respec with my new trait book!
I wanted to try something new so I figured I’d let the forum decide for me. So far I have played a Rifle Power build which was ok. I also tried out a Flamethrower build for just a bit, but I found it a bit lackluster with out Juggernaut. At the moment I’m using a condition p/s build with elixirs.
I do a mix of both PvE and WvW, but I don’t mind kittening one of them in exchange for a better build in the other. And I’m not against trying out the flamethrower build again.
So what does everyone think? What has been the funnest thing you have tried so far? I keep hearing people talk about elixir gun builds, what exactly do they entail?
It’s all about killing the veterans that sit in the middle of the roads, and killing supply dovaks. They are easy kills that can be done with a small group, and are generally not defended much, even less so if the enemy team is over confident. Gorilla tactics are your best friend to be honest. It’s not about taking over that enemy keep with 10 billion trebuchets around it. It’s about taking out supply camps.
You can also look for the PvE events that take place near the corners of the map.
Anyone want to post a build for a WvWvW oriented Flamethrower build? I’d be interested in trying it out. The little I have used the flamethrower in WvW it has always felt to short range to accomplish much. Yeah you can shoot through doors, but I’m generally to squishy to stay that close to a door for long with all the aoe going on. ANd forget open battle getting close enough to use it. That’s suicide.
This is what I’m using right now.
I got bored of turrets, and the standard flamethrower build (even though it arguably has the best dps) was getting stale for me too. I’ll probably go back to the flamethrower build when I hit 80, but gadgets are fun and are working well for me.
Would you mind posting the “standard flamethrower build” you mentioned? I haven’t been keeping up on theorycrafting or anything yet for the game. I thought the general consensus was that weapon kits were terrible for damage over all. I’d love to take a look at a good flamethrower build.
